TransFormers Sequel News !!!
A brief synopsis of the Transformers sequel (due for release in 2009) can be found at the internet movie data-base site…
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1055369/
Here’s what it says (spoilers… kinda)
“The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron’s dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.”

Looks like a decent story for the sequel.. But much like the first movie, it’ll suck because the transformers look nothing like the transformers that everyone know.. If megatrons body was stolen from the US military then who was the decepticon that they threw into the ocean at the end of the first movie..??
so because they changed the look of the transformers, the movie sucked?
that’s the dumbest view of a movie i’ve ever heard (or read… whatever).
grow up, fanboy. i’m as big a fan of transformers as most (i haven’t dedicated my life to it like some weirdo’s, but i’ve been a fan since i can remember), but the change in designs didn’t bother me at all. why would it matter? the characters were the same in personality so why, oh why, does it matter what they look like?
You and I are on the same page.
The look of the transformers was one of the plethora of reasons why i hated the movie.. The movie sucked because it was done badly, it was done by someone who has never seen an episode of the transformers in his life, that an the fact that Michael Bay and Speilberg should never have been behind the production / directing wheel to begin with, because they inferior and nothing more then one hit wonders.. I don’t want to point out all the mistakes of the movie, as it’ll take up all the memory and space on this site.. But the plethora of product placements would be one of the dead give aways..
However, I did for all it’s worth like the skeletel designs of the transformers, it’s a pity they messed up the rest.. They had (if memory serves me correctly) $173million dollars at their disposal to make the movie, so your gonna honestly tell me or write to me (whatever’s easier) that they couldn’t fit in that huge budget of theirs… making the transformers ‘transform’ into their original states..?? That’s the main issue i have with the movie, that and the fact that they chose hugo weaving instead of frank welker to be the voice of megatron, what a direct slap in the face that was..!
LETS BE REAL HERE. IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE THEM TRANSFORM INTO THEIR ORIGINAL CARTOON FORMS. YOU HAVE TO MODERN THINGS UP A LITTLE. GRANTED I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE MEGATRON IN HIS GUN FORM BUT FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING THIS MOVIE WORK, YOU HAVE TO APPEAL TO THE CURRENT AUDIENCES LIKINGS. THINK ABOUT IT, HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU KNOW REMEMBER THE OLD TRANSFORMERS CARTOONS? I WOULD GUESS NOT TO MANY. LETS FACE IT THE BEST TRANSFORMERS MOVIE WAS THE ORIGINAL.
True but the people that do remember the old cartoons would be the kids the watched in the early ninties and before. I remember most of the stuff, but not all since it’s been so long since it last aired.
Anyone that actually things they did Transformers badly because it wasnt close enough to the original cartoons is an idiot. The transformers were able to fly around like superman if you recall. Megatron turned from a Huge robot into a gun small enough for another robot to hold! Think of all the ludicrous things they did in the old cartoons. My hats off to them for bringing back transformers and bringing them back in style.
Well ok then nick, here is a perfect example of why the movie sucked and how they messed up the transformers.. If your such a big TF fan then you’d know that bonecrusher was a bulldozer in the cartoon series not something that resembles a garbage truck.. Secondly, bonecrusher was also one part of the constructicons that ironically joined to form ‘devestator’, which in the movie was a tank.. You sure you want me to keep on going…?? Feel free to stop me at any time Nick..
Wookie, dude……it’s a moovie, not real, just like the original cartoons werent real…it’s for fun….use your imagination a little…and get a girlfriend, they are cool.
Yes it is a only a movie jomama, and yes they are not real and that the original G1 cartoon was not real either.. But if i was a movie director and used my imagination (something that Hollywood producers / directors should seriously look into), the transformers would have had their orignal transformation forms(alas Optimus as a cab-over, Jazz as a porsche, Ironhide as a Red Nissan Venetta, Bumblebee as a VW Beetle and Megatron as a pistol… and yes i’m aware of the ‘mass shifting’ debate which still rages on, on this site), however, i’d use the exo-skeletal designs that Bay used in this movie, because they were kinda cool and the organic feel to them was a nice touch.. And if it was for fun, then why not leave them the way they were in G1..??
I don’t understand how behind Michael Bay and co. could fuck up something so simple that could have worked so well in the modern era (one could just imagin how awesome the movie would have been, with todays technology, if it was done properly) I mean they had a perfectly good platform to work with, they had a perfectly good storyline to work with, the whole ‘good vs bad’ plot was there etc… all they had to do is put it all together and make a live action movie..
Wookie you are a fucking tool. Do you think anyone complained with the new batman movies because he didn’t wear a fuckin purple spandex suit just the way he did in the TV series? A few people probably did complain, and those people are fuckheads just like you.
Nobody gives a shit if the transformers arn’t the same make and model care as the original cartoons. Movies are made to appeal to the majority of the public. You are a stupid narrow minded purist who thinks that the movie is a failure becasue the robots aren’t anatomically correct.
You represent a tiny percentage of the people who went and saw the film. for that reason the TF movie was a big success because it made a lot of money.
If the directors could you ‘your’ imagination as you suggested, the movie may be pure in the most tiny detail, but i’m sure that the resulting film would suck balls so hard that someone would stab you on the street for stealing 2 hrs of people’s lives while they watched your fucked up film.
Transformers was awesome. That girl in the film was hot as fuck. And it was so successful they’re making a sequel.
BOOM!
stuballs… well said man. wookie stop being a little bitch about the little stuff. the movie was incredible, plain and simple. stop analyzing all the little details, just be happy they made a transformers movie that was as awesome as that was. get out of your moms basement and just enjoy the sequel when it comes out
yak, yak, yak, yak, yak…..
Stuballs, all I will say is this, you are nothing more then some new-age fan who’s pretending to be someone their not… who’s only contention and basis for an arguement is that at every remake, every live action flick HAS to be changed to appeal to the majority of the public.. That simplistic analogy means that a) you have got no clue and b) the whole “well at least you should be happy that TF has finally been made into a live action flick” and “appealing to the majority of the public” mentality proves just how narrow minded you really are..
Yeah, I am a purist, and just like all the other purists on this planet like things to be kept in tact and the way they are, none of this changing bullshit because some inferior hack director hasn’t seen the transformers in his life and thought “what the hell” lets fuck it up.. The live action movie has nothing on the animated one back in 86′.. That movie was cool, this one wasn’t..!
As a parting note, What’s your favourite cartoon series Stuballs..?
On the topic of batman, I didn’t complain about batman’s suit going from the gay looking purple thing he was wearing in the TV series to all out black because a) i didn’t think much of batman to be honest as most of them sucked, with the exception of the two movies with Micheal Keaton and the Dark Knight and b) having batman wear a black suite made perfect sense.. I mean have you seen a purple bat flying around..?? And it would have defeated the purpose of calling him the ‘dark knight’… now wouldn’t it..?? Would you go to watch ‘the purple knight’..??
I wonder why they kept Superman unchanged in the movies and the lois and clark TV series after all these years..?? Or don’t tell me Stuballs, your narrow minded mentality thinks that Superman needs a make over as well… right?? Who’s the tool now..?? Your just a zombie who follows the crowd with the notion of not being left out or singled out.. Like I said I am a purist, but at least I’m not unoriginal..!
Look dude, just quit bitching about it and sucking all the fun out of it for the rest of us.
I am a LIFELONG, DIE HARD Transformers fan, but I am also a fan of realism and LOGIC. Who in the living hell wants to see Bumblebee as a Bug? I mean, come on! Sam is supposed to get the chick when he’s in a VW Beetle? And seriously, I can’t think of a single VW model that would be right for the level of “bad-ass” that Bumblebee needs to have (and don’t forget that Bay heard all of the fan-boy crap about Bumblebee before the filming… it’s the main reason for the nod to his original form at the car dealership). It’s not LOGICAL, for a movie aimed at the adult fans of this franchise. Prime needed flames because red is a nightmare to photograph; blue is easier, but there is enough red that you know who it is. That’s just being realistic. The movie was a GM love-fest, that is true. But be realistic and logical: without the product placement, GM doesn’t sign on to do this movie. Without them, this movie definitely doesn’t get made. The studios were not going to pony up $500 mil for a “toy movie.” Now that the first one did so well, they probably will for the second.
Calling Spielberg (I don’t like Bay either, full disclosure) a “one hit wonder” could be the most obtuse thing I have ever heard. The man has been making amazing films for 30 years.
And the most irritating fan-boy, nerd-boy shit in the WORLD is hearing them cry about Frank Welker. Just let it go. Hugo Weaving did perfectly.
Just go see the movie again, and LET GO!! Don’t make the choice to get hung up on the differences, MAKE THE CHOICE TO ALLOW YOURSELF TO ENJOY IT!! It really is good fun.
Ok then, if your such a fan of realism and logic (other then the fact that you’ll be waiting a while for that to ever happen), then whats the difference in having bumblebee being a VW bug rather then a camaro..?? I have always said in my posts that I liked what I saw in terms of the exo-skeletel designs, I have also said that why not just pimp up bumblebee and the other autobots (ratchet and ironhide, most notably)..
I’ve seen the new VW bugs all decked out and pimped up to the max, and they looked nothing short of awesome, so I don’t see any problem there (and I’m not talking about the original Bugs, because quite frankly they were and still are an eyesore, at least the new bugs look shit loads better).. Jazz could have been a porsche minus the ugly racing striped, what…. none of the new porsche’ fit the mould of jazz..?? As for ‘red’ being a nightmare to photograph, you’ll get no argument from me on that one, but what about having cherry red, blood red or some other darker red to compensate for that..?? Rather then adding extra ‘unnecessary’ colours to Optimus Prime for it to work..
Calling Speilberg a “one hit wonder” was a bit hasty of me (so you got me on that one) but i’m just sore at the fact that Transformers could have and should have been “more then meets the eye”(no pun intended) that and the fact that Speilberg could have and should have been more involved with it and overseen what was being done to it.. Honestly, Speilberg should have been in charge of making the movie NOT an inferior hack like Michael Bay, because we all know that along with James Camaeron and Ridley Scott (and there are other notable directors), Speilberg is right up there with the best of them in the Sci-Fi genre..
I think that the Frank Welker debate will ‘rage’ on for a while, if Peter Cullen got the call up to reprise the role of OP wouldn’t it make perfect sense to get Frank Welker to reprise the role of Megatron..?? Don’t get me wrong the aussie actor Hugo Weaving did a pretty decent job of being the voice over for megatron, but it’s just not megatron without Frank, much like OP not being OP without Peter..
Hold on here Wookie.. now I know I am getting into THIS discussion a bit late in the game to be replying to such an old post…(sorry, I have better things to do with my time here lately than watch you sit and whine like a little schoolgirl)…but here goes.
First of all… REMEMBER ME??? I was the one that got you all worked up about the GM cars vs old show cars in the 1st place. Well, I am back you sniveling whining little poor excuse for a fan.. so expect some more replies from me on this thread.
Second… and in regards to your issue about peter cullen getting call and then why didn’t frank get the call… who’s to say that frank DIDN’T get the call but he thought… “Nah, I’m just not up for it these days”
More to come as I read more of your fruitless rants about a movie that you have seen probably 100+ times (and probably own 4 copies of)… AND the movie that is coming soon to a theater near all of us… that you will undoubtably watch on the big screen 20+ times (being a fan and all like you say)…and then proceed to whine relentlessly for another year until there’s word of another sequel (which from what I understand is already contracted out on the books)……… putz
I soo agree. Like Megatron was really going to transform into a handgun? Movie kicked ass! Cant wait for the sequel!
michael bay didn’t even like transformer when he was first offered the gig. as any common sense person would agree that the movie would have been a millions times better if it was directed by a someone whom actually enjoyed the og cartoon.
I’m totally in agreement with this guy. Who the F— cares that the transformers don’t look like the old cartoon. The old cartoon sucked. The movie was so awesome I cant wait for the sequel. I have seen hundreds of movies and transformers was by far one of my favorites. I cant even believe anyone would be lame enough to complain about it.
I don’t know what the big damn fuss is about? Hell it was a good movie, i don’t care what the people say about it. It’s just a damn movie hell if you’ve got kids they’ll sure enjoy it. Life goes on let’em produce there movies they’ll enjoy, why can’t everyone else.. If you don’t like it, 90% of everyone else will.ccccchhhhiiiillllll!!!
Just because they changed the look of the transformers does not mean it sucked!!!!!! I realize that some people are used to the cartoon transformers, but if they made a cartoon animated movie, it woul seem as if it was only for children. I for one think that it was wrong to bring megatron back without reviving jazz. But I guess the new movie will answer all our questions.
The only reason why the sucked is that there seems to be lesser respect to the subject matter (why change an icon?)and the fact that most epople who voted in Peter cullen as optimus prime EXPECTED the old’ op but REAL.
as far as I am concerened, the older vehicles type in the original series are still in use today, if not as a hand me down, it is in a car expo or air show.So there is really no valid reason the change them except if you want it to try to appeal to the general masses and merchandise based on brandname that is it.
as with th ereason for “realism” why things were changed. there is no REAL reason in optimus having flames other than Bay wanted it or why
there is no “mass shifting” when transformers transform though the “ALL SPARK” did mass shifting (and to a limited extend so did frenzy..)
hmm let me think oh thats right nobody knows because the movie is not out yet good one genius
number one: the transformers movie did not suck. it may not of been like the t.v. show back then but it brought a new begaining to the transformers
Number two: Megatron was dumped in the ocean at the endd with any other dead robots to hide the evidence. They did not steal him for the secton 7 military. he escaped DuH!!!!!
Number three: the next movie will not only be better than the first one but will have more action, robots, and move movies to come. the transformer 2 is a squel leading up to transformers 3.
GO TRANSFORMERS SHIA,AND MEGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was reading some of the comments here and I never knew there were such strong feelings. Not the best movie in the world by some standards but still pretty good. Hollywoods gonna make a movie if it will sell tickets and make a profit. 708 million made on a 150 mil budget…a good return. So don’t see the sequel when it comes out and make your statement.
I was thinkin the same thing. Who was the robot dropped in the ocean? My guess is that the government stole Megatron from the Arctic secretly to continue research and reverse engineering then Scorpinok seizes the moment and steals the body. I know they’d better have a good explanation. I loved the first move though. I had to get used to the look of the robots but it gave the effect that the they were biological and technological like real aliens and not just the invention of the Quintesons. Talk about a story line to hate. The Quints invented the Transformers last I heard. That revalation in 5 faces of darkness sucked more than any changes Bay made in the film.
dude, they didn’t even change that much. Since it was live action, they had to make some kind of changes
the only big one i even noticed was megatron
haaa
he used to be a tank or some kind of gun thing. now he’s a jet? that’s wierd. it’s probably mostly cuz the tank would be illogical in real life
or was it the humans???
(that scene where the aircaft carrier is dropping junk)
you know. micheal bay could have easily used this as an excuse to re-animate megatron as his G-1 self??
well the only thing we have left is imagination (guys try picturing the movie but with correct vehicles and voices?..and bumble bee instead of kicking the crap out of barricade not using a massive arsenal outsmarts barricade and gets on on him in the refinery.)
could you see the older fans cheering???
as with the new movie, great for the new fans not sure about otyhers
i think (even though it has not got the graetest storyilne) transformers II will be good if bonecrusher returns and blackout returns. and i want more long scenes on Cybertron!!! i think the animating rocks as hard as frozen custard.
I wanna see more lone scenes of Megan Fox… (then again who wouldn’t)
Now on with the topic, i think your idea jackster on having long scenes of cybertron wouldn’t be a bad idea.. I’m just hoping that they’ll get the atmosphere, the whole robotic feel, the artificial intelligence, the technology, something that a little kid would dream up, i would love for them to come up with something like that.. I would even go as far making it look more bladerunner-ish, but more chaotic..
What i reckon Michael Bay should do, is have a competition on which little kid from across the globe can come up with the best cybertron idea.. Because im sure there is a kid out there who has read all the “choose your own adventure” books, who is into sci-fi novels, who likes space and astronomy in general… i’ll guarantee that they’ll come up with an idea 1000x better then anything that Bay, Orci and co. can come up with.. Because you gotta admit, the first movie did kinda suck, the only eventful moment of the movie was Megan Fox and the end credits..
What the hell hapens to Barricade in the movie
Other then the fact that he got his ass handed to him with the fight against bumblebee, i don’t really know what happens to him.. The end fight scene in the city was somewhat of a blur, it was disappointing.. I think he got his ass handed to him again, cuz at the end of the movie all we see is starscream flying into the atmospehere, so my guess is that he blown up or something..
He was a useless decepticon in the movie anyway, he didn’t do much other then getting his ass kicked time and time again..
Well for a wperson who thought the movie sucked, u sure know a whole lot!!! But that was another good point that in the final battle, several robots were never seen. The only ones dead for sure were bonecrusher, brawl and megatron. It was a little confusing, but maybe starscream knows where they are????
Well w00kie, for someone who refused to watch the movie you sure do know a lot about it…
And yeh, I too hope to see more of Cybertron. Maybe a few protoform bots running around. And maybe even get to see ShockWave (there were a few concept renders of him).
And to Jackster…
I recall Prime busting his head open (eyeball popping out) and he got a blade in the neck, so not expecting to see him in the sequel.
…And yes more Megan Fox would NOT be a bad move
huh…??
I never refused to watch it, i knew it was gonna suck anyway with what i read and heard prior to the release… but it’s the transformers, it had to be done (watch the movie, that is…) and the fact that it cost me $15 bucks for admission, i wasn’t gonna walk out half way through the movie, even though it was tempting, but Megan Fox made me stay..
And prime busting his head open and eyeball popping out… that was bonecrusher, not barricade, that got his ass handed to him under the bridge..
W00kie… read jackster’s comment!
He said… “transformers II would be cool if BONECRUSHER returns & Barricade returns”.
I never replied to jacksters comment on “transformers will be cool if bonecrusher & barricade returns”… I replied to his comment on having more longer scenes of cybertron which i agreed..
Seems like the usual Hollywood Sequel Story to me. (Everyone Returns And Fights Again, And the Bad Guys Lose Again.) But, I’ll still watch it.
Yeh… hopefully second time round we can expect more/different characters.
And sounds like StarScream’s gonna come back from Cybertron to conquer Earth (Cybertron V2.0) so I expect he’ll bring an army of new Decepticons with him… not to mention the convergence of the remaining Autobots.
But let’s not forget that they’ve planned 3 movies with the possibility of a 4th !!!
aw nutz… been wishing that the whole series would turn up to be an all out Sci-Fi war movie. HOPE THIS TIME OUR MILITARY gets a royal(REAL) POUNDING like it is supposed to against a “supposedly” advanced race of war machines.Meaning we tried our best but without the autobots we are screwed scenario.
(not that human with a half lit firecraker kills blackout crap again.)
If the next movies become a propaganda of how our military kicks butt(ala independence Day style crap) BS again with the autobots playing third fiddle (yes not second…THIRD FIDDLE), then they surely lost the plot and the autobots might as well be there for decoration.
I agree, I hated it when the military just killed Blackout and Brawl (aka: Devastator). It really bugged the crap outta me. These robots aren’t supposed to die that EASILY! Oh, and in the movie when one of the dudes said: “They can be hurt by our weapons and now they know it.” I’m pretty sure that was Tom Banacheck, but that friggin pissed me off. It totally was a slap in the face for the transformers, it made them look like weaklings against humans. I mean, humans being superior to an advanced alien race just seems… really stupid. And not to mention the transformers are about 20ft taller than them. *smacks head*
Yeah, they’re also made of metal and have kick *** weapons! There’s no way humans could be superior to them!
This is AWSOME. michael bay should make a beast wars movie. i am the biggest fan ever are you going to have megan fox
Beast wars would have looked much better in the style that micheal bay made the g-1 transformers, that organic feel.
I just hope they put jetfire in it does megatron come back. hope it is as good as the 1st one
Well to be honest, that news does sound quite exciting, but it sounds a bit too human. Where has all the classic characters that we all know gone?
If there is going to be new TFs’ Then I think that all the classic ones should come back, I know that some of them have, but it only seems fair that Michael Bay at least gives the old school TF fans a memory of what they saw as a kid. Now I’ve heard that their going to shoot in Philadelphia, and they’re starting shooting in June, so at leats bring Sounwave back. He was the one that basically mad people sit on the edge of their seats. So, please Michael Bay, Bring the old TFs’ back.
soundwave was AWSOME. you should put all of the cool transformers in.that would be pretty cool. also, you should have ironhide change to decepticon like he did in the ORIGINAL transformers.
Yeah, He was pretty awesome, but they should AT LEAST have Primus or Cybertron in it, or Unicron, he was cool:-).
agreed, alas the list of autobots and decepticons seems rather thin.
The old transformers had at least enough numbers from each side each episode to feel a little like a war.
as fro micheal bay being fair to us oldskooler, yeah right..
the moment he made decepticons easy to kill by us humans he inadvertantly made the autobots rather useless..
I hope the next movie has a war movie feel to it and NO NOT US HUMANS patting ourselves on the back saying GHEEE that was easy.
(transformers are about transformers and not a boy and his car!!!! or aour military winning easily agains something that us primitive cannot understand fully)
It is about time the autobots be given the opportunity to prove their worth.
Having a weak enemy sux.. imagine technically advanced beinge being killed by a pea shooter???!!!
ya agreed. megatron was always b.a. the autobots never won in one battle
so what is the point having Autobots if Optimus can’t even put up a good fight with Megs???
Is this a transformers movie or porpaganda to send guys to the gulf??
I thought It was meant to be about “THE TRANSFORMERS” not “THE HUMANS KICK DECEPTICONS, Autobots optional”
lmao…so true. So much of the movie seemed like an add for the Military. Look at how many military bases are included in the credits.
did you guys ever think about the minicons whatever happend to them
yeah.. not sure how bay would incorporate “minicons”??
still he’d rpobably make them so weak homans can kill them by just sneezing on them
what would be killer is if they incorporated some of the decepticons that were able to transform into the one mega-decepticon. megan fox was hot but the side little love story has to go….who cares?!?! I do agree about the discussions that the fact that the humans shouldn’t have been able to hurt blackout or skorpinox….what’s the point of the autobots then…did anyone of the auto’s besides Opitmus kill a decepticon? I don’t remember if they did. All I saw was Optimus whoopin’ some ass and then the rest get their’s handed to them! Poor Poor little Jazz…he was just Megatrons bitch. I do say the effects of the movie were cool, the editing was shotty, the looks of the transformers were new, inovative with our times, and really..on that point..why would a super advanced space robot want to be an old f-15 instead of an F-22…I would imagine that the transformers have their own opinions also and one last thing I wish bumblebee hadn’t been a camarro but it’s better than a shitty VW bettle!
you know I posted something a few days ago conerening perhaps why the autobots where cars and decpticons jets.
Remember the cartoon? It was teletraan that gave them their earth forms but even teletraan was damaged. perhaps to teletran it was whatever shape suited and that the transformers being in pieces in the ark, that could explain why the decepticons and autobots had different color body parts and why some autobots became aircraft (mismatched parts next to each other)perhaps teletran tried to make sense in its damaged state which parts match and go with which robot torso and head and what transformation form. in the end was given(powerglide became a jet and is loving it.)If you think about it it makes more sense than just choosing their form because if that was the case wouln’t the auto bots just become whatever vehicle they liked to be on even odds with the decepticons??(eg. optimus becomes a jet togo to to to with megs.)
as the idea with turning advanced robots into eath equivalents has merit, but I say again if you put it in teletran’s perspective (or that satellite that randomly looked for earth forms)it makes perfect sense that the f-15 form was taken from a museum or better yet from out in the desert where spare military aircraft is kept. and there are many f-15 in storage sitting outdoors.(much the same way the autobost form could easily be from a car wrecking yard or truck expo..)
as with bumblebee, wasnt the original bumblebee meant to be a spy not a
WARRIOR? true many of us love the new “gimp head” bumblebee (Wookie mentioned this..have a look at that ball in humblebees mouth)but what was bay’s intention? “action movie” or “homage to trasnformers”? the latter it is not.
a
Wait wait wait wait…. I quote
“as the idea with turning advanced robots into eath equivalents has merit, but I say again if you put it in teletran’s perspective (or that satellite that randomly looked for earth forms)it makes perfect sense that the f-15 form was taken from a museum or better yet from out in the desert where spare military aircraft is kept. and there are many f-15 in storage sitting outdoors.(much the same way the autobost form could easily be from a car wrecking yard or truck expo..)”
Specifically about the F15 being used instead of the more advanced and present day military aircraft the F22 Raptor….
Ummm you do realize that the F15 was REPLACED by the F22 in today’s military because of it’s superior maneuverability, firepower, electronics, and overall “whoopassability” (my word.. will be added to websters soon I am sure). If the decepticons were to take the form of an F15 the USAF F22s flying in would have turned the F15 into scrap metal in a matter of seconds. Ummm.. I think it was already totally covered in the original movie’s discussion here on this site…. that with GM footing a large…no…forget large… GINORMOUS (not my word) of the movie’s total production budget… that using old cars and trucks from scrap yards and “truck expos” would be kindof a slap in the face to the movies primary financier… And w00kiewhiner’s rants about the bumblebee should have been a VW New Beetle instead of a camaro… and Jazz being a porche instead of the Pontiac Solstice… DUDE.. Go whine somewhere else or just sit back…. watch the movie and show some freaking RESPECT for someone doing something that nobody on this entire discussion has the means, talent, and financial backing to do their OWN multimillion dollar box office SMASH HIT.
Bumblebee killed brawl!!!! when megan fox tied him to that to truck, and he got barricade pretty good in the intial fight(what ever happened to him?) but6 he was the only one
Brawl wasn’t in the film… they changed the name to ‘devestator’ at the last minute.. But that was bullshit, because ‘devestator’ was made up of 6 constructacons, so why did they change devestator into an ambrams tank..?? That is what i don’t understand, that and the political bullshit surrounding the ’so-called’ breach of contract with porsche and volkswagon stating that Bay can’t use a beetle and a porsche, yet what do we see at the beginning of the film… a beetle at a car yard and a porsche dealership.. Talk about double standards..
But what’s done is done, all we can hope for is that the second movie is slightly better and less confusion and bullshit from an inferior and inept film director / producer..
You know, Bay was allowed to use those cars, he just decided not to. He felt the VW Bug wasn’t badass enough…
Why would it kill the movie if for example the constructacons rolled up and turned into devestator..?? That’ll be kinda cool, if they were done properly.. Unfortunately they messed up the whole idea, because devestator was made a tank, so that defeats the purpose.. Now, you made some good points (regardless of the fact that they are recycled ones) on the relevance of the autobots coming to the rescue of humans and earth in general when a handful of soldiers can take down a decepticon with inferior weapons.. On the point of whoopin’ some ass, none of the autobots did any good in any of the battles, Optimus dropping megatron was sheer luck… because you gotta admit Optimus, much like jazz was megatrons bitch, except that optimus survived to fight another day..
I do agree with you that the effects were pretty cool, the editing as you said it was shotty and piss poor in some parts of the movie.. The look of the transformers were how shall i put it… ‘interesting’, it wasn’t spectacular nor innovative, it was new and up with the times ‘IF’ it came from a new generation transformer fans point of view, but if it were coming from the wider TF fan base would probably say otherwise.. As a parting note you mentioned “why would a super advanced space robot want to be an old f-15 instead of an F-22..??” My question to you is “why would an advanced super robot want to be an F-22 rather then an old F-15..??”
oh…and on a side note…the modelesque millitary guys need to go also…the part where the army guy tells “Sam” that he’s a Soldier now was LAME!
again Sam a “Soldier”??? they didn’t even give him a proper gun!
what the heck was he supposed to use to delay megatron? Harsh language?
ya well bumble bee being a camero rocked i think nd go to you tube they are showing the casting of the transformes they have soundwave but not jet fire grr… but megatron is suppose to be stronger nd i think the dinobots will be in it
lol? No, they aren’t.
be careful what you wish for,It may not be to your liking knowing Bay’s habit of “changing” things..
I was talking about them showing the casting on the TFs on youtube.
He’s talking about those fake fan videos, quite stupid.
well i saw the casting thing bot wat ever
No you didn’t, you saw some video a teenager made with pictures of cars.
Hey does anyone think Jazz Is coming back? not trying to be stereotypical, but they only kill the ‘black’ autobot?????!!!!
hahaha, nah man. Poor Jazz is toast. That was sad :[
I wish they could bring in SoundWave, some guy was telling me that little b!tch robot was soundwave because he turned into a boombox… I hope to god not. I want real soundwave complete with badass voice and cassette tape backup. hehehe
the boombox was frenzy (i think..) However, word is going around that soundwave will make his debute in the next film, but as an ipod.. However, don’t take my word for it, as it’s only rumour… but the rumours and pictures on the internet and youtube surrounding the look of optimus, jazz and co. from the first film were spot on, so soundwave being an ipod could be true.. If they bring in soundwave, surely they should bring in ‘BLASTER’ as well, just to even it out..??
The transformer they dropped in the ocean had half a leg missing… IIRC, megatron never lost a leg… although they wanted you to believe it, I got the impression that megatron was not who they dropped… but, I watched the ending thinking, “how can they set themselves up for a sequel”.
First hint, “Prime, sticking the cube in your chest is suicide… it COULD destroy you both” (read: it’s not certain to – so, it also wasn’t certain to destroy megatron).
Second hint was the 1 legged decepticon.
Finally (the obvious) was starscream flying off.
They have lots of ways to go.
rewind minicons are in the movie how do you explain the scorpion thing and why dont they do a beast wars movie that be titts
er didn’t know “rumble” the character was considered a “minicon” as in ol’ trasnformer’s standard.
Well, the way I see it in regards to the transformers cars not being quite like the originals… ESPECIALLY Bumblebee, you have to think in terms of era. Back in the day when the cartoon transformers was created, a volkswagon beetle was a popular choice of automobile for adults and teenagers alike, both female AND male. Add the fact that in the movie, Bumblebee in an effort to impress his human companion, takes the form of a brand new state of the art model. What you get as a result would be a storyline that would be very hard to believe. What 17 year old male would be impressed with, or for that matter, caught DEAD driving the Volkswagon New Beetle? ESPECIALLY if he is trying to impress a hot girl!
Now you add in the fact that General Motors was a major advertising partner for the movie and without a large portion of the films budget came from GM Money, would you want to be the one to tell GM that you were gonna use a Porsche and a Volkswagon for two primary character vehicles?
With Jazz, who was originally a porsche, I personally feel that using GM’s Pontiac Solstice was a wize choice seeing as it is GM’s answer to the compact high performance roadsters, once offered only by European car manufacturers. Now along the same lines of thought though, I am curious why GM didn’t subsitute the “Solstice” with the SKY Roadster made by Saturn, a GM company, which is the platform that the Solstice is designed off of in the first place. I think the SKY looks a lot sharper than the Solstice anyday.
One more thought in regards to Era. The movie takes place mainly in the United States and the United States military and government are a large part of the plot. If you recall, Starscream’s original model of jet closely resembled a Russion SU-37 fighter which at the time appeared much more sinister than the jets used by American forces of the same era. Today, there is almost no other jet that looks as menacing as the F-22 Raptor… and not to mention a heck of a lot easier to blend in over US Airpace.
I look forward to seeing the sequel, and I hope that I am not disappointed with it like most other movies’ sequels.
sadly the fact that the decepticons and autobots can “choose” their own form really seem like a flaw to me in plotline since logically if that was the case optimus would have “morphed” into a jet to even the odds with megatron and so would the deceptions change forms at will. (like bumblebee having 2 car forms)
If you look at the old cartoon. the idea where teletran WAS what decided what autobots and decepticons would transform into(sometimes based ontheir old form) really gave limits and put a clearer distinction between autobots and decepticons. (with a few exceptions..). As with some autobots becoming aircraft or otherforms the implied reason could be that since teletran was damaged and some autobots were really damaged, teletraan tried to make sense rebuilt them with parts closes to the head and torso and this could easily explain why transformers are not all the same color in body, head and legs.. (justin case each robotw as meant to be the same color form head to toe.)
As with the era thing. that satellite was reaoming at random, finding forms that woudl most suit each trasns formers. If the movio could have been written that perhaps sky spy was above an “airshow”, air museam, or
that place in the desert where they store “f-15″ when some decepticons were built would really explain why they are f-15..much the same way when teh autobts where rebuilt, the satellite feed could have easily been over a used car yard or car show.. so this could validate reason why they are in 1980’s form.
and there would have been ways to show, GM, mountaindew products and nokia in ways just as effective as part of theplot without having to change the trasnformers themselves.
with meatron being a gun and that mass shifting thing being “not real”, what did the “allspark” cube do??? just that..
as with the BS that porche and volks do not allow their products as part of a movie, that tue is flawed. IF you can put “sam” passing a porche car showroom and have the new bumblebeen litearlly slap the Beetle, then you can get them as transformers.
don’t get me wrong, the new bumblebee I like (despite the gimp in mouth ballgag look)but the fact that that tribute of Beetle being slapped by the new bumblebee to some fans i know interpreted it as rather like a lap on the face for theold bumblebee.
bay cold dow hat he likes.. I hope he at least gets the plot right this time, none of that “man” is superior and can kill decepticons crap.
I understand the ‘era’ debate, and you get no argument from me on that one, yes, back in the 80’s the beetle was a popular little car.. However, bumblebee was and will always be remembered as a beetle not a camaro, so why change everything all of a sudden..?? Paramount pictures have made more then enough money from their movies over the years to fund the ‘transformers’ movie with the $173 million they put aside, so why get financial assistants from GM..?? I mean fair enough paramount can cut a deal with GM to use their cars in the movie and others through other uses, but for example IRONHIDE was always a red nissan venetta, so why change him into a GM SUV..?? Same with Jazz, Rachet, and Optimus…..?? Starscream was a jet that resembled an SU-37 Russian fighter, and the f-22 Raptor is a perfect substitute, but what about the Mig 29-Fulcrum..?? That looked just as menacing as the Raptor..
You also mentioned in your post that in order for bumblebee to impress the human(SAM), he takes the form of a brand new state of the art model… What brand new state of the art model..?? I haven’t seen a new state of the art Beetle yet.. You also mentioned that if the movie kept with the original plot and concept from the cartoon, then the storyline would be seen as hard to believe.. The whole idea of cars, tanks, planes, boats, ships transforming into huge robots is hard to believe, so i don’t see the difference in keeping with the original concept and storyline..
But i do understand where your coming from with your argument Bitsurround..
bitsurround has good points…
Personally, I like that they added the Terminator2-like ability to morph into other things. Sorta explains why they come to the earth from outer space and look like everyday items we see.
Rewind, not sure if you were referring to my post by the above quote from your reply. I never said that Porsche didn’t do advertising partnerships and such or didn’t allow their products as part of a movie… in fact, the producers wouldn’t have been able to use the scene of Sam’s dad teasing him with “Drive through the Porsche dealer’s lot” gag if they didn’t have permission from Porsche… or for that matter the fact that Sam’s dad is actually driving a VINTAGE porsche.
As far as Prime morphing into a jet to even the odds against Megatron, that would be FAR beyond the scope of “Sticking to the original cartoon storyline”. I mean, if they were going to go that route, it would make the entire plot and scene sequence totally limitless and not only would they lose a large fan base for the sake of “creativity”, they would essentially have to have added about 2 more hours of action sequences and their FX budget would far exceed the potential box office earnings.
Overall, the autobots and decepticons alike stayed within their “one vehicle form/one robot form” guideline, with the exception of bumblebee, and the little dastardly and pesky “baby decepticon” (obviously a plot based creation cause I don’t remember that little thing in the cartoon). Bumblebee’s transformation into the 2009 Camaro Concept was apparently more of a “coming out of hiding” type of event if you ask me. Yes, they tied it into a “I’ll show you” type of action to resolve the insulting remark made about his “Beat up old Camaro” look, but if you think about it… all the other Autobots took the form of the latest models of the vehicles they used. Bumblebee was Sam’s “Guardian”, and the two of them would have never been joined together in the new model camaro form on a mere “4000 dollar car budget”…. so the OLD camaro was the answer to bumblebee becoming “Sam’s car” in the first place. If Sam’s dad wasn’t gonna drop a second mortgage on a porsche, he CERTAINLY wasn’t going to buy Sam a concept version of a High Performance classic american sportscar.
As for “slapping the beetle” scene, that could have been construed as a “slap in the face for the old bumblebee” but my personal opinion is that it added a touch of nostalgic humor as well as a good laugh from Actor Bernie Mac as “Bobby Bolivia” as the classic fast talking used car salesman.
the first movie was closer to the comic book story line than the tv show, in the comic book shockwave, not starscream, was megatrons chief rival for power, in the comic shockwave followed the dinobots to earth and was trapped in tar just as the dinobots were, shockwave awoke first to assume command of the decpticons, followed by the dinobots, the ps3 game gave some hint to this when they had shockwave as one of the decpticon bosses in the game, and for an added bonus, shockwaves personality was a copy of Mr Spock from Star Trek complete with logic and pointy ears
Apologies first. I did not mean to swipe you directly,

If that was the case then WHY not have Jazz as a porche???IF you can have a “Vintage” porche” and porche showroom WHY CAN”T YOU HAVE JAZZ AS A PORCHE??? what it has to be “modern”? old porches are still being owned and driven by people especially as hand me down hand cars.. much like ones
people have when they get their “licence” first time.

I did not mean that optimus should become a jet nor more money be spent on doing this by the FX team. WHAT I mean is IF a transformer can change his car form “AT WILL” to impress Sam’s potential bedmate then youc an be sure that all other transformers can do the same in or just before a “fight”. Bay shoudl have done more explaining as to why they keep only one form.
logically if you can change your transformation “at will” then wouldn’t
you do so to even the odds?? choosing your own transformation at will
is something that you would abuse in a fight especially if you are getting pounded wholesale.LIKE IN TEH LIVE ACTION MOVIE..OPTIMUS WAS GETTING POUNDED.
In the cartoon it was teletraan with the aid of sky spy that repaired both decepticons and autobots based on what forms they were and what was around or what vehicle happened to be below skyspy that matched.
becasue of this each transformer had one transformation form
(unless they were a triple changer before earth)AND THEY WERE STUCK WITH IT WHETHER THEY LIKED IT OR NOT. this is what made it interesting, each trasformer’s alternate from came with pros ,cons and limitations and it was intresting how they worked within their forms.LImittaiosn bring more depth top characters.
this is why the autobots where predominatly car forming (with a few exception and I did explain maybe why) and decepticons are mostly aircraft.Teletran was damaged so thingsmay have not been that consistent in repair to adapt the transformers to Earth’s environment.
Okay Imagine if you did not know who bernie mac was or if Bernie was not there, how would you interpret that scene?
Culture and social practices we have in the states are not necessarily the same or as well know in other countries.
Imagine that you were a fan of Bumblebee from 1980 and know transformers inside and out but do not get even US comedy or a healthy dose of US culture how would you interpret that scene???
Not so easy isn’t it?
IT can be interpreted in a wrong way. I know people from from China
(who in the 1990’s got addicted and know have a huge folling of loyal 1980’s cartoon fans base) and European(Finns,Dutch,Norwegians still remained loyal even after our it went off air in the states)who took it as a direct slap.
Why did the BEETLE HAD TO BE yellow piece of S### that was falling apart, it was nearby, and was hit by “the camaro” how else could you see it?
oh yeah as with things having to be modern This in itself is not a must.
your ol 80’s porche, 70’s freightliner cabover ,fairlady z or classic beetle are still in use, if not in a car show, as “handme down” to people getting their license. f-15s still fly in our airshows with similar color schemes to starscream and thundercracker so who said that decepticons had to be in a “millitary” hanger when they are more inconspicous in plain sight of public be it as a collection or exhibition?
As with “realistic” or why transformers had to be those car brands is also not validated. WHY a peterbuilt? because if you use a cab over optimus would only be 50 feet? PLEEEEESE, that is rich.
Hang around a truckstop long enough as a gas jerk and you will find that there are many cab over customs have the cab part “extended” that if you where to make it up optimus would be about 55-58 feet (not including trailer)
and with this and with the fact that in real life you can lift the cockpit of the truck 90 degrees to acces the engine (hence called cab over)and in some customs LIFT the back wheels up with build in hydrawlic legs, you really get an appreciation of the cartoon’s optimus as believable and possible to transform.
Bay just wanted to change things that is all and not for realism, fandom or accuracy.I expected something akin to LOTR with a mature serious deep plot,a trubute to fans but what I got was well below my expectations. Then again to the director it was “kiddie”, perhaps why there red flames on
the truck. makes optmus look more like a “realistic” toy..
The only valid excuse bay could give is he wanted to change it nothing more.
Not sure why you guys keep saying Starscream was originally modeled after an SU-37. He wasn’t. All the original generation decepticon jets were modeled after F-15’s. And judging from your writing and grammar, you probably weren’t around to know that.
Megatron would have stayed true if they had made him like some portable howitzer or something…which would have been more believable in my opinion…but then the story in the movie of how he got to earth would have had to change.
I think for the most part, those who were around to see the original transformers and who had them as toys were completely happy with the movie. We’re talking 31-37 year olds, which was the demographic the movie was aimed at.
I never started the debate on starscream and what variant of fighter plane he was (alas the SU-37), nor did anyone else for that matter, it’s simply a matter of opinion… something which don’t seem to comprehend nor understand for that matter since were on the subject.. Now, before i get into correcting you on a few points SomeGuy, whats the story with your “And judging from your writing and grammar, you probably weren’t around to know that.” comment..?? Is it that much of a problem, that you have to attack something as little and insignificant as grammer and writing..?? Do you realy care how people write on this forum, for all we know, you probably cant write to save yourself and don’t possess good grammer skills either, and had someone write your post for you..
Anyway, getting to the F-15 issue, yes, i am well aware of the fact that starscream was modelled around an F-15 fighter jet, and i’ll take a stab in the dark to assume that everyone else on this forum knows that also.. However Someguy, if you were literate enough to read past posts, you’d realise that the debate (to an extent) was about what todays fighter jet is more menacing… and the F-22 and the Mig-29 fulcrum where just names that were thrown in purely for the fact that they are menacing looking.. I’m guessing that even you would agree with these comments..??
And on the topic of Megatron and how he should have been a howitzer and so forth brings back the “mass shifting” debate.. Which has come and gone (debate wise that is) on this forum..
I stand corrected…. after looking back at some images of the old starscream, he was in fact an f-15 falcon, not an SU-37 Flanker.
I don’t want to be the bearer of yet more bad news Bitsurround (and im just taking the piss out of you, and a swipe at you) but it’s an F-15 strike eagle not an F-15 falcon.. The falcon is an F-16..
Sorry Bitsurround but there was a typo in the brackets, it should say ‘I’m just taking the piss out of you, and NOT a swipe at you’..
I was a huge Transformer fan when I was a kid…yes remember that word. I had the toys almost all of them. I still watch the cartoons if they happen to be on. I can not believe this much detail is being discussed. Its 2008 you do have to update things. This movie is aimed at my demographic. Most people younger only know they exhisted at all. Thats the thing I hate about the Fanboy mentality. You want the film made, you cream you pants then bitch when its not 100 percent like the comic book, cartoon, etc from which its based. I know, I am a huge Tolkien fan. I absolutely LOVE The Lord of The Rings. I dont follow it like a religion but I loved the films, yes they even “changed” alot of things around, oh wow. You cant turn a 500,000 word novel into a fanboy movie. It wont sell to an real auidence. Would I watch a 20 hour each world perfect interpertaion of LOTR yes, I would but you know I was happy it was made and its still my favorite movie to this day, even above Star Wars and im talking about 4,5,6, not the prequils. I just cant see why this debate still goes on. Yes you love the comics , yes you love the cartoons, if all movies were made to a very select and devoted fanbase you wouldnt have the money to make the flick in the first place. You cant have your cake and eat it too. Devotion and passion about something you love is great, but turning it into a dogma underneith a microscope is just stupid. I seen the original animated film, in the theather when it came out in 84-85, I think were a bit older now, I liked the movie, in fact its the only Michael Bay film I like. I was amazed it didnt win best special effects at the oscars. I thought it was well done. By the way cassette players dont exhist anymore, and now that I see them again some episodes of the cartoon are a little hokey and dont hold up. Just enjoy the flick. Its bad enough I have a 37 year old friend with an autobot insignia on his chest, that is pretty sad. Im sure some will think its cool, I gave up the toys when I found a life. Have your passions, dont let them have you, find a girl or a boy which you perfer, as long as they have a pulse and get some. If the second one sucks, well then it just sucks.
Jim that was very well put. As I was reading down through the comments I was thinking the same thing. I found it very hilarious that so many people are crying over this.
I like the howitzer idea…but if only the “cube” did not “mass shift” and become a smaller object..
this hcnage that “someguy” mentioned is good. logical yes
as with most people who had the toys, it depends. Some guys I know liked the new movie loved the toys.. Others were a little more Transformers series fanatical. It is basically even but strangely
I know people around 30-40 y/o and the spread is almost
60/50 from the total guys I know be it States,China or Europe
(the 60% are those who wanted G1 closeness.)
but there is fact in washat was said. many who have the toys from their childhood loved the new live action movie while some of those who did not have wanted more a “character depth” beyond the series.
As for me I can almost guess how and what each transformer from
the first season would say and do. (thanks to getting into the zen of their persona due to comics and my worn out VHS tapes.)
Something some fans can almost visualise.that is if you cared more about the characters than the toys.
what was megatron suppose to be and how did he get that way?
He was meant to have been a pistol… a walther P38 if i recall.. But he did have other variants throughout the various series’.. In the movie he was a plane, the last time i saw megatron as anything other then a pistol was in a japanese version of transformers known as ‘machine wars’ (i think that was the name of the series) were he was a plane which oddly enough looked similar to the one portrayed in the movie.. And as for him getting away, i don’t think he did, at the end of the movie he was thrown into the ocean along with some of the other decepticons, only starscream escaped..
I watched the cartoons in the 80’s and the cartoon movie as well. When this movie came out I was sceptic on how good they could make them look. After seeing it, I thought the movie kicked butt for the most part. Then after seeing it a couple more times and looking at it more and more, I have many questions about why they did certain things or left out others. But, the bottom line is, for me, is that I enjoyed the movie, and can’t wait for the sequel. The fact that they changed the forms and made them look more cool and tough was fine!!!! They had to keep up with the times.
Just my two cents…….. Cheers.
Yes they did look kinda cool and tough, but they had to change everything in order for them to look cool and tough.. Now my question to you Stuntman is this, ‘would they look any less cool and tough if they opted to stay with the original forms yet keep the exo-skeletel designs from this movie..??’
They really should please us all and bring up the whole unicron galvatron story that would be better. Unicron and Galvatron vs. Optimus. Thats more of a threat to earth than starscream But if they did end up using Unicron i wouldnt want them too pul a FAKE galctagus on us ala rise of the silver surver.!!!
That wouldn’t be a bad idea (unicron and galvatron), but somehow i don’t see Orson Wells running to pursue the role of Unicron’s voice over any time soon.. Because from memory, he never wanted the role as Unicron’s voice over in the 1986 cartoon movie either.. The thing is though, if they opted to go down the whole Unicron / galvatron alligience, it’ll probably take hollywood, Michael Bay and Speilberg another 10 TF movies to get to that stage… along the way screw up other transformers designs from the original cartoon series.. So even though it’s a good idea, i’m kinda not looking forward to it, if it were the case..
Well, this might be a insignificant post for most, but I never watched Transformers and I thought the movie was fantastic. The Special effects were awesome (much better than Indiana Jones). All the characters were believable. I know you guys are T-enthusiasts so you know your shit but from a T-virgin’s perspective, it all looked like it was supposed to be this way.
can i still post?
wookie pointed out Megatron’s “toy origins as a “micro changer” toy
(the toy line megatron was from was before the trasnfromers animated series, alas the japs got the tf cartoon a year after we in the west got it hence I could not call it “anime”)
As for the cartoon’s perspective, we do not know what megatron was but
there are hints on the first episode.Firstly look at sound wave.
what did he tramsform into and what was laserbeak? Notice there was NO
“mas shifting” even Shockwave did not mass shift but was sued by bruticus as a LARGE gun in later episode.Perhaps Teletran ans sky spy could not make sense of how to adapt Soundwave to eath conditions based on
his cybetronian form. perhaps skyspy went over a cassetteplayer and foudnit a match beside its small form. In a way does make sense.Like megatron maybe that was the closest thing or the only thing scanned that remotley matched. As I’d expect possibly mass shifting was meant chew up a lot of energy hence in the animated movie he and soundwave have not transform. In the cartoon however they do..often, perhaps megatron
has some extra energon to burn..not very power efficient..perhaps the decepticons were not built for that.
In the cartoon Trailbraker asnweres spike’s quetion why the autobots transform. He says for disguise.
However for the Decepticons it seems to be more for Advantage rather than disguise.(Soundwave’s is both)Soundwave’s specialisation is espionage
so logically it does apply.
As with Megatron not being a jet like most decepticons,
We can only guess being an older model from another era the decepticons may have had other needs unlike your jet deception.(built for speed and hard hitting power quite versatile)
I mean he was made way before Optimus prime and was sort of newer than alphatrion (who in the cartoon DOES NOT TRANSFORM)It would be more porbable megatron was made to Eradicate KEY positions. Perhaps even
Autobot leaders.
We could even suggest that the fact that in his earth form he has to be fired by another decepticon means that his transformation optimises him to put out all resources to focus his energy as a destructive beam, at the cost of being completely helpless in that transformation, needing another decepticon to pull his strigger and to watch his back.
This suggest he oculd have been some sort of great portable “weapon”
In the animated movie Megatron becomes “Galvatron”. Maybe this has some truth to what Megatron was on cybetron. if we take into account the first episode on cybetron had no mass shifting, and that megatron turned into a gun.
a fan has made a custom of what megatron
perhaps it could be like this sicne it is closer to the animated generation 1

By the way orson welles died back in the eighties right after the movie. If michael Bey is reading this hee hould def bring in unicron maybe have unicron summon megatron from under the ocean or something like he did in the cartoon. That would be a movie to look forward to.
He died in 1985, but if he were alive now i don’t think he’d reprise the role of unicron.. He hated working on the cartoon movie, he hated it so much that he was quoted as saying (about ‘unicron’) “I play a big toy eating up little toys” or something along those lines.. If michael bay wanted to include unicron and galvatron in later sequels, he’d better get someone that sounds just like Orson.. Because look at megatron… frank welker IS the voice of megatron yet they opted to use an aussie actor who is a reputable actor at that, hugo weaving to be the voice of megatron.. As close as Hugo was to sounding like Welker, to me it didn’t feel right.. Well, look on the bright side they got optimus right..
cant wait tell the movie
yeah me too (even if there are some negative connotations for this)
I think the harsh criticism of the first film is mostly undeserved. Seriously, only a sliver of fans would enjoy watching old cars make their ‘epic’ return to popular culture–I see nothing appealing about watching an old VW bug, old Nissan vans, and various other eyesores from the old cartoon (we need to finally admit this to ourselves) come back to life. Not to mention that Megatron as a pistol never made any sense back then, so the newcomers likely wouldn’t have enjoyed seeing a pistol transform into a 30-foot tall robot–it just wouldn’t make sense, so I can see why they scrapped it. The only real beef I have with this film was the editing, which I think plays into a majority of the criticisms. We see Barricade lying in a heap after the fight w/ Bumblebee, and then all of a sudden he’s chasing after the good guys, and then he isn’t seen again. Following that, the marketing campaign had the tank listed as Brawl, and then in the film he became Devestator. The only thing I can see as an explanation is sloppy editing, since his name didn’t end up mattering much at all with respect to what was happening. All in all, the ‘diehard fans’ need to get off of their collective high-horse, expect a little bit of modernization (both for new fans and for general common sense) and just be thankful that they’ve finally done it.
I very much agree with you. I loved the Transformers when I was young, but was very much into the movie.
I could see the logic in making something “modern” to appeal to the hudled masses, but If megatron didn’t make sense turning into a gun then
It is double to make optimus a Peterbuilt.Realism I can understand, But
an iconic form like Optimus? Kids are not truck buffs, neither is the general public so there was really no valid reason to “modernise” ALL
trasnformers.
Let take Optimus as a n example.
That model freightliner is still in use (albeit with better comforts)
As with the “realism factor” a freightliner would have been valid from the start so the Peterbuild form was really not needed.(don;t give me that realistic 28 foot garbage). work in a truck stop and see that some “custom” cab overs are much longer. (hey all you nerds out there..
ever see a cab over opened where the engine sits under the “cab”.. that is already half of ops trasnformation)
Have some appreciation to the toys that they were based on and you know the engineer behind them spent countless hours around machines.. and IT IS POSSIBLE in real life.(so don;t give us that lets grow up excuse)
Have you no imagination???Those who think of TF as “just a cartoon”
mentality cannot see what it could have been as REAL.
Okay It was just a cartoon..but LOOK BEYOND.. the orchestra gave it soul, the rough animations represented something that IS NOT THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE… watch the cartoons until you get fed up with it and reads ome of the earlier comics then you’ll see what the movie failed to capture. that is my gripe other than the looks.
So being harsh and saying it is sjust a sliver is not justified.
Do we have POlls that can count every old fan tha is alive???
and the General motor company forms.. were nothing more than a ploy for to us older fans can’t anyone see the obvious?
Modernization is okay..but really what for?? Look at Lord of the Rings?
It appealed.
All Micheal bays movie was a great action film…..but nothing more..
Some fans expected MUCH more as they got the jist of the TF world.
To be deceived when people voted for peter cullen as optimus becasue people on the don murphy forums believed it would be the optimus they know is a great sin.
to call it greater than what it was based on really just because it was
a “cartoon” and “kiddie” and “we all need to grow up” is apparent of lack of imagination depth much so is a pointless argument.
really shows the lack of the subject matter as well.
A portion of fans that was deceived has much more weight than mere
vengeance without a valid cause..
The harsh criticism given to the first movie was justified and well deserved.. Now, i am a huge fan of the old gen 1 cartoon… but i would love to have seen bumblebee as a ‘new’ VW bug, ironhide as a red nissen venentta, because that’s what fans know them as being (instead of this GMC bullshit)
And on the topic of ‘eyesores’… so your saying that a porsche is an eyesore..?? That a cab-over truck is an eyesore..?? Yet there are so many of them on the roads… The only thing i agree with you is the editing… it was kinda poxy, not very professional..
Here’s an example of why the movie got such critism from the ‘die hard’ fans… The main problem with the film (other then the obvious) is that it doesn’t follow a single one of its plot threads through. The main one being, with the clue burned into the old glasses… it never pans out because both the cube and Megatron are already pretty safely stowed away at a government facility anyway.. So what was the point of that..??
I’m a purist, you got a problem with that..??
How could anyone think this movie was good… Any true Transformers fan would agree that this was a complete let down, to no surprise with Micheal Bay… Yeah the special effects were awesome, and the organic designs were pretty cool too, I’ll give it that… But the plot, the characters, the cliche’d BS littered throughout the entire movie were just that, BS…!! Micheal Bay, if you read this (or in the process of reading this), please stop making movies it’s embarrassing, or at least learn how to make a movie without all the same OVER-dramatized BS that is evident in every other movie you make.. The editing was so great in the movie that it was a complete blurr, I didn’t know whats what, or who’s who… Is that what you get for $150 million these days..??
The same characters, the same pan shots, the same love story that makes no sense… Apparently he only knows how to make one movie, that’s cliche’d, over dramatized, and has so much crap that has nothing to do with the central plot… People like you vengeful NERD who like his movies are the same idiots that probably watch “Fox News” and think its real news… We have been down this road before, but how come he made Optimus into such a pansy..?? Megatron kicked his butt all up and down those streets… Any real Transformers fan from the 80s would know that Optimus Prime was badass (even though he was holding back)… I’m not saying make the good guy too strong, but at least make it an even fight… And after all that fighting, all the explosions, and 2 1/2 of special effects… they kill Megatron by walking up to him and putting the cube in his chest… Are you shitting me..!!!!
At least have Optimus hold him down or something… The only thing that stopped him in his tracks were a couple of jets flying over the city..?? What do we need the Autobots for then..?? Why didn’t we just shoot them down with our jets to begin with..?? Well, the real answer to these questions lies with Micheal Bay… There’s enough holes in the plot that a Boeing 747 could fly through, I mean… I could sit in front of my LCD screen and point out at least 20 to 30 mistakes(plus the rest) he made with this movie… But instead, I would have tried to get someone like James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Jerry Brukheimer, or even Peter Jackson… At least they know how to make good sci-fi/action movies, but tastefully and more realistic………!
The one thing this movie did have is special effects. The transforming of these machines were (to an extent) nicely done… And Spielberg, your way too good of a director (even though you haven’t shown that as of late) to think Micheal Bay is good too. The next movie you produce, get a freakin’ director with some talent and creativity…!
If you want harsh criticism Vengeful NERD, there’s your anwser..!
The comparison with the Lord of the Rings trilogy is a bad example. Comparing a story that is set in what resembles the real world, i.e. Earth, doesn’t relate to a story set in a fictional world filled with monsters and wizards. The hardcore LOTR fans can appreciate the effort that Peter Jackson made to stick to the original story, and the newbies can just as easily enjoy the film even if it wasn’t entirely book-to-film. The TF cartoon was premised on the idea of alien robots that were already among us, disguised as things we see everyday. Who the hell sees a Porsche (I’m using Jazz) with a bunch of weirdo red, green and black racing stripes everyday? A Nissan Vennetta? Give me a break. If anything, the announcement from Voight in the film would’ve said, “If you see an obscure model vehicle from circa 1984-1987, be aware! It has a 60% chance of being an alien robot!” Friends who’ve never watched a TF cartoon have told me they’d rather watch modern cars that they see day-to-day over some POS blast-from-the-past. So Optimus was a Peterbilt instead of a Mac–big deal. He’s still the same character. It wasn’t like him being a different model truck made him any less Optimus Prime. The only regeret I have is that my personal favorite, Soundwave, really had no chance of making it into the film without some thoughtful reinvention, because he was a freakin’ cassette player. If you aren’t accepting what I said about the 80s cars, fine, but there are maybe 50 left on Earth with a freakin’ cassette player, and they don’t even sell cassettes anymore, so how would Soundwave have made it in? I get it, you’re mad that they movie ’sold out’ to product placement, using GMC cars. You might have a legitimate beef there, except that these movies need to recoup their money some how, and if the film turned out to be a flop (which was entirely possible given today’s market) then at least they got some of that money back by GMC paying them to use their cars. I also understand the beef with Michael Bay as the director. Yes, he does primarily action films, and yes, they all follow a similar formula. So what? Would you rather get stuck with some artsy $#!& movie about the robots’ “feelings/emotions”?
Ha ha, you are becoming my NEW favorite site visitor. It’s nice to have someone who agrees with me around to even out rewind and w00kie!
The lord of the rings trilogy was a bad example when comparing it to transformers, however, im a huge fan of LOTR… and Peter Jackson done an awesome job, even though they could have been longer, but then again who in their right mind would site in a theatre and watch a 10hour movie..??
Now the red, green, and black racing stripes on Jazz in the cartoon did look poxy and where eyesores themselves… but what about the 911 carrera or the 911 GT series of porsches’, they couldn’t use one of those to model Jazz..?? How is a 911 carrera or a GT a ‘blast from the past’ (minus the racing stripes)..?? Fair enough the cost is the key factor, but its not like movie studios can’t efford it.. What about ratchet… paramount pictures couldn’t model ratchet around a new age ambulance..?? Im sure they could have found an amulance somewhere in the US, regardless of the fact that most of them are made by GMC.. Instead of modelling ratchet around something that resembles a Hummer.. And as for ironhide, what about a nissen Quest..?? Sure its no vennetta, but it’s a minivan, its a recent model, and ironhide was a red minivan in the cartoon, so what is the problem..?? Paramount pictures could have compromised somewhere along the lines of what makes and models are to be used in the movie, but stay with the manufacturers (ie: ironhide, a nissan… jazz, a porsche….), they could have just cut a deal with GMC, used their cars and influences somewhere else in the movie, yet stay with the original manufacturers that the cartoon characters were based on..
And as for Optimus, to an extent he was still the same character, afterall, he was still a truck… But i still don’t get how a cab-over is an ‘eyesore’ and a ‘blast from the past’..?? When you see them everywhere, i would agree with you on those comments if a cab-over was decommissioned etc… but there not and they are still being used.. So why ‘change or fix something… when clearly it is not broken’..?? And as for Michael Bay, no comment……..! Everything was said in previous posts..
The TF cartoon was premised on the idea of alien robots that were
Then why can’t the old fans get the same treatement? An almost direct
cartoon to Live action movie?? What is sacrificed, accuracy for “UP TO DATE”? It is apparent that we don;t have both
you mean to say that to resmeble the real world is to make it not just modern and make US be able to base our technology on MBE-1?? (Megatron)
This is what really kills the fiction zone for me.IF the autobots and Decepticons are “advanced” then we have NO way in hell of understanding how they work and IF WE DO,(we can kill them) then there is really no reason to have AUTOBOTS to protect us… So that plot line is flawed.
Secondly in terms of technology IF the trasnformers were that advanced then they “Hacking” is something they don’t need to do and could just read encrypted files like a pre-schoolers book.
I mean they would not call E-bay just “ebay” from an alien’s point of view they would not say it that way. Talk to people who have an electronics background who have just got introduced to the internet.
Again this movie seems more about the people that it does the transformers.
The TF cartoon was premised on the idea of alien robots that were already among us, disguised as things we see everyday. Who the hell sees a Porsche (I’m using Jazz) with a bunch of weirdo red, green and black racing stripes everyday?
Point taken, but now and then you see a few guys who rebuild card drive them on the road? (everyday no common..YES.)SO having a brand new EXPENSIVE sports car also sticks out like a sore thumb much than
something a little vintage.(we are looking at you bumblebee)
Give me a break. If anything, the announcement from Voight in the film would’ve said, “If you see an obscure model vehicle from circa 1984-1987, be aware! It has a 60% chance of being an alien robot!”
Aren’t people in the movie’s REALITY meant to NOT be aware that there are such creatures that exist, hence the likeley hood of being aliens
can be ignored.SO there is really not much meat in that argument is there?
Friends who’ve never watched a TF cartoon have told me they’d rather watch modern cars that they see day-to-day over some POS blast-from-the-past.
Again the only point that validates this is that the movie is designed for the general public as nothing more than an excuse, IF the cars were
the old 1980’s cars then they would not mind either don’t they??
The older fans got duped after all in nominating peter cullen way before
the designs came out. so who got conned in to believing it would be as what older fans thought, and why don;t they have a right to that???
So Optimus was a Peterbilt instead of a Mac–big deal.
He’s still the same character. It wasn’t like him being a different model truck made him any less Optimus Prime.
Not just the looks Action is good, but any character development? what I mean is what happened to optimus prime??? HE is not exactly the same as before.Firstly. Grammar. since when does Optimus say “my bad”??That is out of character..(okay funny but still out of character)
LIke I said before It is is nice action film BUT THAT IS JUST IT… an action film ONLY…
whatever happened to scenes where the autobots show a bit of “balls” getting their asses kicked or those moments where Optimus plants those “awe” inspiring speeches??
The lines “one shall stand one shall fall” in the live action movie
didn’t seem as strong as the old cartoon movie.
The only regeret I have is that my personal favorite, Soundwave, really had no chance of making it into the film without some thoughtful reinvention, because he was a freakin’ cassette player.
I am sure they could get away with a better compromise than
what “frenzy” was.
If you aren’t accepting what I said about the 80s cars, fine, but there are maybe 50 left on Earth with a freakin’ cassette player,
and they don’t even sell cassettes anymore, so how would Soundwave have made it in?
Read what was above.. and yes casette tapes are still being built.. go to the middle east or indonesia and you will find they still exist and ARE STILL MANUFACTURED..
Nice argumnet.. but again there were many other ways they could have used rpoducts placement other than making the trasnformers as GMC cars..so that point is really invalid.
I also understand the beef with Michael Bay as the director. Yes, he does primarily action films, and yes, they all follow a similar formula. So what? Would you rather get stuck with some artsy $#!& movie about the robots’ “feelings/emotions”?
Negative.. but the movie would benefit with more MEAT than just wham and bam…Similar formula but he could do better..unfortunatley his
laurels are rotting.
Temper temper… the sighn of a losing battle.
well i agree that the movie had bad editing but if you jus think about it it was stilll a great movie. It helped people who didnt like transformers at all have respect for em. some people that i know hated transformers cause of the the new show. it is nothing like the other one the graphics dont even look good. they look like sticks with legs. well any way the movies help the transformers get more fans and makes little kids to have a something they can look up to and even collect.
If it were possibly a 911 Carrera from 2007, then yes, I would, and I suspect many fans would find that appealing. The old stuff just isn’t common enough to attract any borderline fans. Even having watched the show when I was young, I wouldn’t find an old Porsche as appealing on screen as a new version. A Nissan Quest? Really? There is no chance in hell that people are going to look at a Nissan Quest squealing into battle cool. Besides, Iron Hide was the tough guy on the Autobots, even in the 80s–it was a stroke of luck that the kids back then didn’t understand that minivans are LAME, and in no way represent toughness. The last two arguments over Optimus and Ratchet have very little appeal. So Optimus was a Peterbilt over a Mac. BIG DEAL. He still ended up looking the same when he was in robot form, and his color scheme was mostly the same if you ignore the flames (which by the way actually weren’t bad as far as style goes). Ratchet ending up as a Humvee-style medical vehicle made more sense if only from a storyline standpoint–since the robots were attempting to blend in, if Ratchet had crashed in a hospital, that defeats the purpose of going undetected, would it not?
What about the ‘A-Team’ van..?? That represented toughness, durability, and the ability to withstand a hell of a lot of damage… and with ironhides persona in the cartoon, modelling him around the ‘A-Team’ kinda makes perfect sense.. Obviously, its a blast from the past’ and yes its old, outdated and so on……. but it could have fit the mould quite well with ironhide.. They could also have easily used minivans from Jeep or Dodge… like the jeep commander, the jeep liberty, the dodge magnum (with the red crystal pearl colour scheme) or even the dodge nitro (with the red crystal pearl colour scheme) all they had to do to counter the ‘lameness’ tag of a minivan is to pimp them up (im not saying have LCD screens on the hood / bonnet or micro LCD screens on the roof rack), just give them a makeover so that they appeal to the masses..
As for ratchet, why not have a humvee style ambulance (with a similar colour scheme to that of his cartoon counterpart) rather then a humvee style response vehicle used for call outs when a storm hits or something..?? You can keep on posting your pointless and baseless dribble, and you can call me old fashioned, but at the end of the day im gonna re-itterate my point ‘Why change / fix something… when clearly it aint broken..??’ If Michael Bay / Speilberg / paramount knew what the whole TF universe was all about, the movie would worked out… but because there were inferior directors, producers and movie studios in charge, the end result was a load of crap.. I have said this in a previous post that they had everything in front of them, the story, the history, the characters, their persona’s, everything…… all they had to do is make it into a live action movie, that’s all.. Surely it’s not that hard to follow a simple formula and simple story, is it..?
Aren’t we repeating the same argument as your previous post??
read what was posted. perhaps you can give that arm of yours ar rest waving that flag.
And those just happy to see TF as realy would not mind either if they
were older or msiliar vehicles?? yes??
It was the A-Team that made the van cool. If there had been no A-Team, it would be just another ugly van. Part of the benefit of doing these movies years after the franchise was first created gives the people in charge the capacity to make them more appealing to new and curious audiences, and that includes giving them minor changes and adjustments. The Transformers are the perfect franchise because all of the old vehicles and concepts can be made to fit with current technology, and that makes the new audiences eager to see how the timeless idea of robots that turn into cars and planes, etc, can match up with all of the possibilities of new age designs. While purists might not enjoy it simply because its different, people who have been waiting for this movie forever are just happy to see it come to life.
Moreover, since the movie was an overwhelming success, and they’re making a sequel, it sure seems like those tweaks were met with popular approval rather that disgust. That seems pretty indicative that all the things purists were/are complaining about weren’t enough to turn off the majority of old fans. And another thing, Spielberg is hardly inferior. His failures are far outnumbered by his successes, with some of the highest grossing films of all time. Michael Bay is certainly no Spielberg, but his style of filmmaking worked pretty well with the movie, even despite the editing problems (which he may or may not correct in TF2).
Here’s a hyperthetical for you vengeful NERD, keeping with the whole remake & modernising debate… lets say 20 years down the track, a director other then Peter Jackson decides to remake the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy (which may or may not include the ‘Hobbit’) and this director makes a complete mess of it and a mockery of his ‘interpretation’ of tolkiens novels, i mean don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of LOTR… However, if that every happened, would you pose the same argument 20 years from now, much like what your doing at present..?? That it needs modernising and whatnot..?? Your reasoning behind your comments are flawed and missing something called logic..
Here’s another question for you… How can you modernise something that has never been done before..?? (with reference to the transformers debate) I mean as I’ve said previously transformers has never been made into a live action flick, so how can you and everyone else argue that boxy characters can’t work even by todays standards and technology..?? I mean have you seen it done..?? Have you seen with your own two eyes that boxy characters physically can’t work..?? Have boxy characters been tried, tested and proven, to finally put this debate to rest that it just can’t be done..?? Somehow I don’t think so.. I do however, understand that boxy characters would not appeal to most especially with todays society and new generation, but if it were done properly people would be pleasantly surprised… Don’t get me wrong the organic designs are awesome, but I have seen a citreon car commercial where the car transformers into a boxy robot with no movement limitations, the transformation process from car – robot – car again is flawless and with little to no restriction, it was a simple boxy design, pretty modern even by todays stanrds, but worked so well..
I am old fashioned to a degree, so “why change or fix something… when clearly it doesn’t”..?? Look at Speilbergs attempt at HG Wells’ ‘War of the worlds’..?? What a load of shit that was, i mean why..?? I know it’s all abolut the money , why remake the same movie again..?? And what is up with that bullshit side story of Tom Cruise trying to get his kids half way across the US to their mother..?? Where was that in the original..?? Same with the horror flick ‘Shutter’, another remake based on an asian movie which ironically shares the same movie title.. The departed, yet another remake based on a classic asian trilogy called ‘Infernal Affairs’ (Jack Nicholson and Leornado Decaprio did a credible job of playing their characters) but that is exactly my point, why change something that clearly doesn’t need changing..
Movies that have already been done before should be best left alone, look at King Kong, it’s been done like 3 times since 1936… I mean how many diffrent ways are there in which you can make an ape fall from the top of the Empire State Building..?? One would only hope that movies like Terminator 2, Blade Runner, Star wars (new hope, empire strikes back, return of the jedi) and the lord of the rings trilogy (with or without the ‘Hobbit’… if it ever gets made) never get remade because that would clearly show that Hollywood is running out ideas, which is evident at the moment.. Because if Hollywood is resorting to making remakes from a remake from a remake purely to make money, then i think someone should clearly look into ‘modernising’ the ‘Writers Guild of America’..!
It was the A-Team that made the van cool. If there had been no A-Team, it would be just another ugly van.
Yep… Much like people buying certain GMC cars, getting sugar fixes on mountain dew, switching from their sony phone to a “nokia” cuz of “some movie”..
Part of the benefit of doing these movies years after the franchise was first created gives the people in charge the capacity to make them more appealing to new and curious audiences, and that includes giving them minor changes and adjustments.
“Minor” adustments?? Try major surgery.
The Transformers are the perfect franchise because all of the old vehicles and concepts can be made to fit with current technology, and that makes the new audiences eager to see how the timeless idea of robots that turn into cars and planes, etc, can match up with all of the possibilities of new age designs.
Timeless
Definition: Existing unchanged forever
Once you go with the times or “change” what is “TREND”,
you can forget the “timeless” title.
While purists might not enjoy it
simply because its different, people who have been waiting for this movie forever are just happy to see it come to life.
Then the masses would not mind the movie being set in the 80’s also..
Moreover, since the movie was an overwhelming success, and they’re making a sequel, it sure seems like those tweaks were met with popular approval rather that disgust.
That seems pretty indicative that all the things purists were/are complaining about weren’t enough to turn off the majority of old fans.
Popular movie true.. as “the transformers”, debatable.
And another thing,Spielberg is hardly inferior. His failures are far outnumbered by his successes, with some of the highest grossing films of all time.
I find out WOOKIE that you dissed MR. E.T. to prove a point THIS E.T. FAN is gonna be very unhappy.
Michael Bay is certainly no Spielberg, but his style of filmmaking worked pretty well with the movie, even despite the editing problems (which he may or may not correct in TF2).
The action sequences,yes… the PLOT…debatable.
And wookie you are loosing you touch.
I’m not sure what it’s going to take for you to stop comparing TF w/ LOTR. It’s very simple: LOTR is set in a fantasy world that doesn’t in any way relate to this world, i.e., TF. If someone remade LOTR in 20 years and butchered it with respect to the books or even the original film, then it’s redundant—the filmmaker made a shitty version of it, and that’s why it sucked. TF’s unique because it centers on technology. It can always be updated, always made to fit whatever time or place it requires. If Bay/Spielberg had made it set in the 80s, it would’ve been stupid because no one wants to see how ‘cool’ cassette players or old VW bugs were back then. They want to see alien robots disguising themselves as current technology, things that they see and use in their day-to-day lives TODAY, not 20 years ago. Another thing, the boxy-style robot argument is worthless. I don’t know why they made them that way in the 80s, but the appeal of having them as exoskeletal designs today allows people to see how the robots change back and forth; they can see which parts of their disguises become weapons, arms, legs, etc., which is part of the attraction to seeing alien robots who can disguise themselves as Earth technology. Your last two film comparisons fall into this same problem. King Kong can alwasy be remade, but the focal point of each remake is a prehistoric ape that is still alive (in a prehistoric setting) on some mythical islad, and that doesn’t change, no matter what year it’s set in during the remake. War of the Worlds, even if it was different from the novel/story, can always be remade because of the main point: aliens attack Earth, and Earth isn’t ready for it. The family aspect that Spielberg used appealed to the big draws in movies: families going to see family films. What could relate better to families than trying to safely get your family away from danger? And besides, the main idea was still there–aliens with superior technology bringing humanity to the brink of extinction. Maybe next time you should use a little bit of ‘logic,’ and check your own desire for nostalgic satisfaction at the door before you try to rip a movie for not being a carbon copy of its original source from decades ago.

WOOKIE. I am surpised you just got HOLED..
I’ll give you three days to reply or I’ll post..
AH….Nostalgia…just as pointless as fixing something that is not broken.
“Maybe next time you should use a little bit of ‘logic,’ and check your own desire for nostalgic satisfaction at the door before you try to rip a movie for not being a carbon copy of its original source from decades ago.”
If a movie director / producer has no intention of making a carbon copy movie based on a novel, why make it at all..?? How about that for a little bit of ‘logic’, hey Vengeful NERD..
[paste your above post for pointless argument sake here or somewhere in the vicinity... Vengeful NERD]
You say that ‘certain’ movies can be redone (alas King Kong)… right..?? Ok then, in the instance of King Kong for example, you say that the main focal point of the movie is Kong himself as a prehistoric ape living in a prehistoric world in the middle of nowhere (WOW, for someone who doesn’t understand much, your pretty observant) that’s true, but how many times can he die – be resurrected – and die again..?? I mean as sick as this may sound, but if they choose a different path lets say that Kong has ‘extra curricular activities’ with the leading lady under the lush rainforest (if you know what I mean) then fine, but it will still end the same way anyway, so regardless of what avenues a director takes, the outcome remains the same.. Or maybe they can put a diving platfrom on the top of the Empire State building so that as he swats one of the planes, he loses his balance miraculously finds himself on the diving platform and perfroms a dive with a difficuly level of 4.0 (with the same outcome as the other two King Kong movies before that) and falls to to his death…
If they want to do another Kong movie, why not make a third sequel… following on from the poxy 1986 movie King Kong 2 (alas King Kong lives) with Linda Hamilton and Brian Kerwin… where you see Lady Kong under a tree eating plants and flowers while Kong Jr. is swing away on the vines.. And with respect to HG Wells, the only reason why Spielberg did a remake was other then the money, he had to incorporate Tome Cruise somwhere in the movie, otherwise his ’star actor’ tag in the movie would be pointless.. But I must say, that was a shocking remake even for someone of Spielbergs’ class (even though lately… he hasn’t shown much class)
My Bad… I’m enjoying picking on you so much Vengeful NERD that i forgot one thing… with the whole ‘extra curricular activities’ scenario, maybe they outwit the search party… Kong relieved that he doesn’t become an 8th wonder of the world, survives to die another day, and they live happily ever after.. Well, that could be an idea for more sequels etc…
apologies Y’all I tried typing in manually to quote each lines for my responses but this forum doesn’t seem to allow me to. So read my reponses after reading your won on my posts.
First of all, if I’m repeating myself, it’s only because it is a necessity to rebut the same losing argument as before. Let’s first get a couple of things taken care of: when I said ‘timeless,’ I was referring the CONCEPT of TF, which is and always will be ‘alien robots who can change into vehicles and other machines that allow them to remain in disguise on earth while still fighting a war amongst themselves.’ So, the concept of TF being ‘timeless’ allows whatever version being created to model itself after the original, while leaving open the possibility of using present-day machines. All this talk about ‘sacrificing accuracy’ doesn’t hold water because the premise of the whole thing and the essence of the characters was intact—I have yet to see an example of how a change in appearance for ANY TF CHARACTER has substantially changed that character. Next, my use of the phrase ‘superior technology’ wasn’t meant to and shouldn’t translate to “infallible/perfect.” Just because something is ‘superior’ doesn’t mean it can’t be beaten. The Decepticon’s hacking into the network was a tactical move, something that experienced military types might employ to hinder the enemy. To say that they shouldn’t ‘have to do that’ just proves my point: it isn’t that they were superior intellectually, it was the technology itself, and technology can always be analyzed and adapted to fit a situation. Further, nothing shows that they would automatically understand earth’s technology or language, so using the internet/eBay/whatever was available to adapt just follows the premise: robots in disguise. Besides, if they are supposed to be in disguise, what’s the point of being in disguise if they were indestructible because they were superior? Saying that because you occasionally see classic cars around they should use them isn’t very strong. Most people who have classic cars keep them under wraps unless they go to a car show; what’s more important is movie people have to hunt down and replicate models that aren’t in production, which would be a pain in the ass. So using modern GMC cars served multiple purposes: (1) easily accessible models, for both TF and human use, as well as sets and props, etc., and (2) it helped to cut some costs. This whole “selling out” thing only works if it damages the integrity of the premise, which it didn’t, so that fails. Also, what about Prime changed so much that the essence of his character was damaged? His lines were only funny sometimes, and most of the time he gave those monologues about ‘sentient beings’ and whatnot. His speeches echoed the same type of leadership qualities that old fans recognize from the cartoon and new fans can easily understand. With the exception that he pretty much had his ass handed to him by Megatron (I expected him to put up a better fight), everything was the same. Following that, the changes in color schemes and model types didn’t alter anyone’s character. Jazz was still the one who had a taste for human pop-culture (hence the sportscar), Ratchet was the medical officer (the emergency medivac or whatever that was) and Ironhide was the tough guy (actually made BETTER because he was a heavy duty pickup instead of middle-aged crisis minivan). You say, “cassette tapes are still being made in the Middle East,” and I say, SO WHAT? They interacted with the American military and all of the human characters were American, so that doesn’t make any difference. If anything, a cassette tape/player showing up would be a red flag for anybody having a grasp on the obvious, i.e., cassettes aren’t common enough to constitute a good disguise. Finally, I’m hardly losing my temper, although I admit it gets frustrating busting up the same arguments over and over again.
Yeah, i see what you mean there Vengeful NERD… it does get a bit frustrating at times (in your case since you jumped on this forum) when you can’t answer simple questions with straight forward answers.. Now, I am trying to decypher your logic in your posts, as easy as it normally is, reading something that has just simply been rehashed, seem rather pointless, wouldn’t you say..??
You may think that I am waving the white flag (well rewind thinks that, it’s amusing though.. 10 points for assumptions there rewind) and that I’m lost for words…..?? Far from it, because in order for that to happen, you need to make sense/defy logic and secondly come up with something original to say/write rather then rehashing what other people have said.. I am however, waiting with utmost enthusiasm for your reply, which for some strange reason will come as no surprise (to you it may seem normal), but to me surprise and disbelief comes to mind..
And i don’t think you are loosing your temper (even though I would if I were you) afterall, we are both just simply expressing our opinions on the topic..! But as a parting note, your still a newb..
For starters, no director ever intends to make a direct one-to-one rendition of any original story. They might come pretty close, but it’s never 100%, and the reason is that’s the whole point in having a director/producer. They are put in charge to give the story a certain humanizing quality when it’s translated from print, either a script or a comic or a TV show, to film. Ask any director, and they’ll tell you some things just don’t work when the transition is made, and their job is to move things around and make it work as best it can, whether it’s the setting, the dialogue, back-story, whatever. Sometimes they do well (LOTR, Spider-Man 1 &2, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, first remake of Ocean’s 11, Batman Begins, Sin City), and sometimes they do poorly (Hulk, Daredevil, da Vinci Code, Ocean’s 12 & 13, Captain America). As far as this movie goes, it might not be the closest to the original, but given all the technical stuff they had to explain I think they did a pretty damn good job.
Second, how did the plot line not come through? The coordinates on the glasses would have led the robots to the Cube, which the movie tells us was where they built the Hoover Dam (around/above it to keep it hidden), and we assume that it was too big to move around safely. Moreover, movies tie up loose ends all the time with coincidences that both (a) work well for the plot and (b) make sense. Given the nature of both finding Megatron in the ice and his assumable relation to the Cube (markings, similar technological makeup), why not store them in the same place since no one is likely to find either of them anyway? I’m not surprised the used the two in that way. Like I said before, given their anxiety about how this film was going to do, not just in sales but in appeal, they had to leave as many things resolved as possible—the only thing worse than making a bad sequel is having just one film that ends with the direct idea that there will be a sequel and it never happens. Even with Starscream flying away, one could go either way on sequel/no sequel since the main plot line (get the Cube/keep it away from Decepticons) was finished.
It doesn’t get much more logical than that, so, for a ‘newb,’ I think that about covers it.
Yup… no surprise on your response, my understanding from your posts is that you still don’t get it, do you..?? For some reason you seem to be making the argument that since it’s Transformers, everything in it can be pardoned and it should be loved despite all… right..?? Now, if you can claim with a straight face that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your argument, then I’m sorry for wasting your time..!
My suspicions are correct, your nothing but a newb..
Just when I didn’t think you’d say the same thing again, here we go. Like I said before, if someone took the original idea of a classic story and made a mockery of it, then it would be redundant that it wasn’t like the original—it would still suck because it was a piece of shit. Any one of those absurd suggestions (see woman-ape relations, diving board on the Empire State building, Linda Hamilton/Brian Kerwin) about King Kong would fall under that definition: GARBAGE. Bestiality is inherently distasteful, diving boards on the then-world’s tallest building would never happen because no one, man or beast, would be allowed to dive off of it, and Kong escaping without coming to the states would irreversibly damage any and all premises to the original story, for instance, the “old world meets new world” theme—if Kong never comes to the states, then that’s destroyed—you’ve just turned King Kong into Tarzan.
On a final note, Spielberg’s last few films include Indiana Jones 4, Transformers (production), Flags of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima (co-production), Munich, and War of the Worlds. Excluding WotW and TF, I’d like to hear how any of those films lacks ‘class.’ Also, so what if he remade WotW, as you say, ‘for money?’ EVERYBODY IN HOLLYWOOD DOES FILMS FOR MONEY. There is not a single director who wouldn’t have done the new WotW at that price. Not one. On the other hand if he had Cruise build his own exo-suit and do battle with the aliens, then you’d be able to say that the film sucked because the whole premise (aliens w/ advanced technology versus humans w/o comparable technology) is DESTROYED. Not to mention that if Spielberg had picked any other actor for that role, the result would’ve been the same because the premise was still intact—humans (actor & family) struggling to survive an alien assault.
How many times is this ‘newb’ going to cut your argument to shreds? I’m putting my money on the over, which stands at a modest 15 ½ .
There’s so much in this last post I have to make a list:
1. I never said I liked ‘all Bay’s movies.’ That’s an assumption you’ve made because I liked TF.
2. “Any TF fan from the 80s would know Prime was badass.” Well, from what I remember, Prime lost a few fights with Megatron & crew a couple times, so as ‘badass’ as he was/is, he isn’t unstoppable.
3. If, as in the film, the cube was a source of unlimited power, why did putting the cube in Megatron’s chest “make no sense?” They already pointed out that Prime would’ve died just the same as Megatron, so what about it didn’t make sense? Lots of things about the cartoon didn’t make sense, I don’t see you questioning them all up and down, like say, the matrix blowing up Unicron and not the Autobots or Cybertron when they were just as close.
4. One last thing: Fox News is just as legitimate as any other news network in existence. Not only does that statement reveal your political opinion—which is irrelevant here—but it shows you have to try to reach out to emotion to argue your point. No matter how much I disagree with you, I wouldn’t call you an idiot who watches so-and-so because I’m mad.
In the past the Transformers Francise has always been a high grossing business.
After the cartoons ended even with/out an associated cartoon/s
or comics to newer or improved toys, the toys sold
and continue to sell consistently regardless.
It is this that Spielberg has rights to, not just making the live action movie.
Learning from what George Lucas did for Starwars,it is the
merchandising that ensures that even if the movie becomes a flop,
losses could be recouped.
Children (as in the newly converted)still have the greates number
buying power as they pester their parent/s for that “popular” toy.
When you go to any local toy store that sells transformer toys
look at the live action movie based toys. They each bear a “Dreamworks” logo.
Repaints of older energon, classic(not gen-1) or other
transformer spin off toys not related to the movie also bear the
“Dreamworks” logo.
Knowing this as common fan knowledge proves that even if a movie
does not fare well, you can still profit, even much more than what you can make
by the series and movie alone.
The excuse (other than profit or a whim)
of having to make the Transformers a different form or modern
using GMC products just in case the movie goes bust or for
popularity/modernisation/fresh ideas/or realism (which is BS)
and the sake of attracting the general movie watcher/s or sponsorship
really is not necessary (optional perhaps)
nor can it be validated other than the directory
wanted it that way (Mr. Bay) since the TOYS already make
much more on their own, regardless of whether
a movie is a flop or not.
However there is one more
thing that Spieldberg bought into hwen ye aquired the right.”THE NAME”
“Transformers” is an already established name and regardless of
what mockery you make of a movie people would still watch it because of the name.
An earnt reputation based on the cartoon series ,an animated movie and the toy line/s.
A long established loyal fan base and many spin off series
proof of its success.
Fans, would watch it,the general public would watch it,guaranteed
whether it sucked or not because it is “THE TRANSFORMERS”
people would watch it even if it is set in the 1980’s
or have older model cars.
IT IS A SURE THING IN TERMS OF PROFIT and attendance and not just in the WEST.
it would still be a success in popularity by numbers.
In Scandanavian countries like Norway or Finland
have a long fan base that still followed
TF long after the fad died here in the West
so it is assured the movie has an
audience even if not in the West.
(ever watch “a bridge too far”? IT was more popular in Europe that i was in the states
and is an all time war classic.)
In China since they got the cartoon in the 1990’s..
IT HAS BECOME REALLY POPULAR and they have a BIG fan base
so there is no real loss of profit there even if each
paying fan watched it once.
Transformers be in set in the 1980’s or 2007, it would still be popular.
so having it close to the cartoon but made believable
would have been a good choice and an even better movie
that it is now. What whe just got was a “great action film” but
what about some thing better than a “timeless classic”??
How about a “Tribute” what older fans would have been waiting for,
what the general public would have loved much more.
There was potential for more ideas to be put in much dept based on an accepted
universe, even a much deeper (finally)plotline and give the WAR a more holistic
and serious side than just action.
Alas the new ideas injected really didn’t complement the
subject it is based on, neither did it really seem to pay much attention to it’s
“realities” set by the series it is based on and older comics.
As the widely accepted universe, with set standards, most of the changes
really went against it much less
didn’t seem to give the subject it is based on its the
due it deserves when the live action movie made it into the screen.
The series before the live action movie was far from
“KIDDIE” if anyone had the imagination to build upon it
as both a concept and intention.
Kids (of the past)watched this because it felt a little more mature in nature,
had characters that can be related to despite the obvious lifeform difference
(a few good potential role models good and bad) and built into its own reality
based on ours and somehow missed “adult” subjects that were in appropriate to younger viewers.
that is what the cartoon was doing despite its crude animation
,the tacky sense of humor or the simplified language to
make (us then) kids understand what was going on and to
lighten up the subject that a civil war has spilled unto our planet.
The animated movie in a way succeeded and attracted many a
new fan at first by the better presentation (sadly it is the “BLING” that gets people first)
then by the plotline which was FAR FROM KIDDIE or just action based.
Unlike war with people, you CAN fix transformers.
This was their charm,Mortal to the enemy but beyond human frailness or limitations.
The wonder of their advancement and our feeble attempts to conquer or be like them.
Violence was there, but was a necessity like any war flick.
(kinda with anti-war undertones minus the “I love the military theme”,)
This is what it should have been.A war flick, sci-fi having
the Transformers carry the movie and not a HUMAN. After all it is about
the “transformers” not something based on aboy and his car with a slogan
“no sacrifice, no victory”
(which is indeed too cheesy, tacky and therefore unbelievable in execution)
The changes in the live action movie were all too major on many levels
and to accomodate minors watching it (the dialogue)
A change that would have been welcomed in the cartoon that would have benefitted
Micheal Bay’s rendition would have been a more complex and deep plot,
not as technical based as startrek but almost as wonder inspiring
in the midst of a great conflict.
Having Humans understand how Megatron works really fouls it up
since to understand it is to know how to kill it which basically
screws up the idea of “the transformers” being much more”advanced”
and the need for the Autobots as our reluctant protectors.
The live action movie was a great action fil, but that is just it..
“just and great action film” and not what it could have been
as people imagined it would be.
Popular yes with the masses, but what about the Universe itself?
It has been changed for the sake of a whim and $$PROFIT$$$ in the guise
of modernisation and percieved “realism based” leaving many out many things that made
the series.HOW HARD IS IT to see a freightliner tilt open, THAT IS already half of
optimus’ transformation and almost belivable.
Understand the designer of the toys and you will see he has been with machines for long.
(I worked in a gas station ,oil rig, and the docks and watching machines all day
you can see where the transformations of each toy teh cartoon is based on
come from, I will not give away too much, suffice to say I can see where
the Japanese base most of robot/toy designs)
I understand change is needed for the masses to watch the live action movie,
but they still woudl have watched it anyway regardless of the cars it is based on
is dated or no longer exists. That was always the “timeless quality” the cartoon had that
was sacrificed in the live action movie for the sake of pointless modern.
I could understand the jets being modern, but the f-15 is still in active service
and at mach 3.0 with it’s array compelements it is still a jet to be reckoned against
a raptor in the hands of a skilled pilot.(especially if it has some manueverability
enchancements,cybetronian style.)
IF Before the movie you imagined beyond the cartoon in depth
when you get into like any fan you will know.
The live action movie falls short of this.I expected better from
Micheal Bay at least an action flick with more depth since Spielberg
was the producer
(of whom I hold in high regard for his “minds eye”(look it up genius) which
Micheal Bay seems to lack and the person who made the script(I let you off this time)
also lack)
Lastly, as a fan if the live action movie was close to the cartoon,
would you watch it??
If you say “yes” then all other arguments about the Live action movie
have no weight simply because it proves that if it was done
that way it would have been IT WOULD STILL BE POPULAR…AND MORE..
Technically, I’m pretty sure Hasbro owns the rights to the TF toys. Typically when a movie or anything in relation to it (this would include the new animated series based on the movie) is made, the people involved with the movie still retain the rights to the movie properties, but they don’t own sole rights in the toys themselves, and then they get money for the use of the tagline from the film. Whether or not money was the sole factor in using GMC products is still irrelevant, because they were still more convenient to use. Following the copyright thread, it’s easier to get rights to use a certain brand of vehicle that includes so many different kinds (cars, normal trucks, utility trucks, etc.) than having to identify and locate and ask and receive the right to use a hoard of individual vehicles. Best of all, they fit the main idea for the characters, and the ones that were somewhat outdated (Iron Hide + minivan of any kind=LAME, and Bumblebee + VW bug=weak, at least for a male character) were actually improved by the transition.
Even as poetic as your childhood fixation sounds, you can’t make a blanket assertion about what every child who ever watched TF had for the reasons they like the show and use that as the only conceivable thought pattern for anyone who tries to translate it from then to now. Frankly, the thought of kids, depending on how you yourself are defining them, having thoughts about “civil war,” “TF’s as role models,” or “our feeble attempts to be like them” is a stretch. It sounds more like an analysis of a Robert Frost poem than a cartoon about alien robots. I’m not saying it’s not possible, but it’s rather unlikely for the target audience largely of the Saturday-morning-cartoon crowd and partly of pre-teens. Better still, this is more likely an account of what an adult back then would project onto the story, which is obviously valid, though not definitive.
Finally, I would still have watched the film if it was a one-to-one copy of the cartoon. This doesn’t mean my argument lacks weight. It just proves I’m a fan, I always will be, and I won’t allow my opinion of something new to be prejudiced because of its differences to an original.
againa pologies all for thelate post. unlike SOME poeple I have a DEMANDING job.
ok lets get to the point mr vengeful nerd.
say nice comeback, as in hasbro techincally has the rights. can’t you ready between the lines? I did say “spielberig bough into” (misspelled)
shihc means he didnt buy the whole damn thing. I am saying that
It is porvit regardless of outcome of how crap or good the movie became.
now.. asnwer me this, why are some re-colored toys of previous trasnformer’s series bear the dreamworks logo despite those characters not being in the movie or even sequel? like a re-paint of the old energon smokescreen or someof the energon series jets who clearly by design are not part of the live action movie?
It is profit plain and simple… and this is what is bought into and not sole rights IF you wanne get technical Hasbro didn’t own the rights from the beginning… (when they were called “diaclone”)
as with claiming the transition of cartoon to real using real actual brands products as a good transition, I would believe that…
IF each car was for a diffirent make rather than GMC.. “convenience” has no place if you want to hunt for characters persona vehicle with detail.I would belive your point whole heartedly if Micheal bay wanted different makes of cars rather from the same company. Proves both a sell out or not a REAL fans based interest.
Logically if the director was a fan then the least thing he could have done was get differnet brand equivalents rather than One or two “general” consumer “popular” car company.
With spielberg as the producer for both name and finance.. I am sure Porche, Volkswaggen,Freightligner, etc would welcome it at a reasonable price as trasformers. There is really no excuse but to CHANGE IT ALL.
(or was it $$$)
As with my “blanket assumption” look at it this way. trasnformers was
as is a cartoon with an adult potential. My guesses are based entirely on the universe itself be it comics and the series and these are openly discussed in more than one forum so in essence I am basically giving
something that is close to canon as fans who discuss openly can get.
(in this point if you still think this as nothing more than a cartoon then I am wasting my time )
Don’t try to impress me with literature, for every cartoon is based on a few or more ideas that culminate is something unique.LOOK beyond the alient robots.
Okay I agree than from the beginning the target audience was those who would watch in ons aturdays and buy the toys..but for some strange reason after the animated movie, it has been defined as something much more adult to thepoint that if you slightly changed the dialogue you got something that can be as technical and as wonderous as any sci-fi
Ignore that it was a cartoon try analysis..you’ll find something oddly adult that relates more to our world than you think.
you have betrayal, guilt, hate, love, wonder, awe, war, action, etc all a director needed to do was to give it “DEPTH” and
a more believable script you would have had something
much better than what is.
I don’t know about you but as good as the live action movie was, it could have been MUCH BETTER an action flick with much more…MUCH MORE.
alas it has fallen short.
opinions are any posters right, but so are mine
prejudices of changes in a well established universe have no place
if the subject matter was given its due respect and development
and it is apparanet it was not.
as with respect to the subject the toys have already come out before the new movie. READ ARCEE’s BIO… then read mirage (of gen-1)
The least thing they could have done is give her a better bio and not take from a well known autobot. (READ THEM BOTH CAREFULLY before you post)
Wookie I see your points and it makes sense is apparent that you were a TV addict more than I ever was. Kudos (you still remember THUNDERCATS ,COPS???)
Hold your breath in suspence as we all watch a little spy robot walk right through a group of people (the airport scene where Frenzy was going towards Barricade) and they convenietly fail to see him (oh wait i get it… he had his hand covering his right side of his mettalic face) Realism hey, Vengeful NERD..?? Here’s another one, explain to me how conventional weapons can take down ‘blackout’ with three rockets up his ass… damage scorpnok with sabre rounds and hurt starscream in the air during the final battle..?? Yet they needed the ‘cube’ in order to take down megatron..?? Why couldn’t they just use the same conventional weapons as take Megatron down also..?? Realism hey, Vengeful NERD..?? If you ask me, megatron seems ‘unstoppable’ so that aspect of your arguement seems irrelevant.. Now, I don’t know what you were trying to achieve with the “Optmius Prime got his ass handed to him on numerous occasions in Gen 1″ statement… but i said something along those lines in previous posts and on other topics in transformersfans.com, so I won’t even bother with that one… You should really stop rehashing MY points and re-badging them as your own, it’s getting rather lame..!! Look, I know that it’s a movie about giant robots… but shouldn’t something in the movie make some sort of sense..?? Rather then masquerading amongst other things a GMC informercial..?? I also have the sneaky suspicion that i’ve been outbidded on Ebay..
At least ID4 got the whole ‘realism’ and ‘advanced’ concept down pat, when US air force was trying to take the spacecraft down and shoot down the little ones, but to no avail, well… till the bullshit meter went through the roof with the “we have a 7 minute window of opportunity, so let’s fly one of their own spacecraft (the captured one), infiltrate their orbiting spaceship, plant a Michaelangelo virus, trigger the nuke… and get the hell out”, but they got it right prior to that.. This may seem like a bad example, but look at the cartoon ’superman – doomsday’, in this cartoon an alien lifeform (doomsday) crash lands on earth in some time capsule of sorts, but even a cartoon got the ‘realism’ and ‘advanced’ concept down to a tea… because no conventional weapon could stop it – not even superman with all his strength could deter him from completing it’s mission (well, he didn’t complete it, but before it’s eventual demise it was on track) That my friend is called ‘realism’ and ‘advanced’.. Maybe I should write down the definitions of both Realism and Advanced..??
You also mentioned in several of your replies that I’m repeating myself, well, if you haven’t noticed, your not doing a bad job of that yourself there, Vengful NERD.. I’ll tell you why, you see your posts are nothing more then rehashed versions of what I’ve been saying in all my posts not only in this topic but other topics on transformersfans.com, even before you jumped on.. You amusingly made the statement that your cutting my areguement to shreads… with what exactly..?? From what I’m seeing, all your doing is using MY points to argue MY points… That my friend is not an argument.. “It’s not that my arguement lacks weight” remember that remark..?? That pretty much sums up your ‘try hard’ persona, you right there just destroyed any form of credibility you may have had which wasn’t much to begin with..
What I’m also seeing is that your resorting to personal attacks to get your lacklustre messege across.. Your not exactly attacking me with harsh and distastful comments and name calling par say, but it’s the way your wording your posts that make out your not, but really you are..! That to me means there is someone helping you with your posts to make you sound more intelligent which brings us back to the “It’s not that my argument lacks weight”, yeah it is..! I’m pretty sure, and i’ll put my house on it, that you will reply to this post using the same rehashed crap used in previous replies… you will also be under the illusion that you once again feel as though you are cutting my arguement down to shreads, you will probably also make some childish comment such as “whatever you reckon” or “you can believe what you want” or “you don’t know what your talking about” etc etc… Yeah I can see it coming… but all i will say is stop wasting my time Vengful NERD, and keep whatever credibility and dignity you might still have in tact, because you will NOT win this one..
As a parting note, here’s something for you Vengeful NERD….
How do you suppose Optimus Prime, became Optimus Prime in the first place..??
I laugh at most these comments, thinking how little the people made this movie care what is said here as they sit in their mansions drinking copious amounts of alcohol in their harem.
Regardless
IMO optimus prime should lose the flames, and make him tougher
Megatron should breathe fire
Jazz should be a porche
And hot rod should come out and be a DB9 as ‘james bond’ type character
and no humans, i even hated spike. Humans = fraility
The problem with the first movie is that it lacks the sense of adventure, the magic, and the emotion that made the animated movie so great, anyone who disagrees with that is an empty-headed Bayhead who thought Gigli was fine entertainment.. Some of the issues I have with the movie are as follows;
1. The music had no emotion… its like as if they just threw those songs in for the sake of having music in the movie, that combined with the fact that it also doubled as a Sony BMG infomercial for new up and coming artists (minus Linkin Park of course).. I mean putting Vince DeCola and Stan Bush to do most of the tracks in the animated movie was pure genious, they knew how to convey emotion with every situation.
2. There was little conversation and focus on the characters and personalities of the transformers, even though in my opinion they were just brainless pieces of metal with legs.
3. Why not call ‘the cube’ the ‘matrix’..?? Was there a patent for the word ‘matrix’ or something….?????
4. The steady streams of self referencing… (the fat kid running and screaming that this is ten times or ten million times better then armageddon) What was the purpose of that..??
5. John Turturro in his career-worst performance as a very lame, amatuer ‘take charge’ FBI/CIA wannabee, sneering and barking orders despite lacking any credibility in the face of the threat at hand..
I have said this time and time again, it should have been easy to meet such simple requirements of a transformers movie, yet Michael Bay misses the mark by a country mile.. There’s no plot development, no logic, no character development, and no satisfactory closure… these traits were abandoned entirely.. And like i’ve said in previous posts, how can anyone screw up a transformers movie, is beyond me..?? I understand the notion that they needed to adjust the characters for ‘realism’… and don’t get me wrong I don’t mind changes here and there for the sake of modernizing so that its appealing, but ONLY if it warrants such change… However, and i guess i’m speaking on behalf of everyone here, I want my movies to be smart, respectful of whatever source material its adapted from (regardless of how dated it is or looks), to be well told and well performed by the actors.. Is that too much to ask..??
Let’s face it (and there will be people that will disagree with me on this one – and that’s fine…) Michael Bay is cliche, and cliche is Michael Bay.. And what we have here is a cliche ridden adaptation of one of the most beloved cartoon series’, that misplaces it’s concerns and completely squanders what could have been a timely live-action revival of Prime and the gang..!
I thought maybe a break from this site would do some good, and then here I see some comments going unchecked with the group. First of all, every time w00kie uses the term ‘realism,’ he has to be referring to something I’ve said; except I’ve never used the term. Not once have I used ‘realism’ as a reason to cover up any decisions Bay made in the first film, nor have I ever used it synonymously with ‘advanced technology’ in any sense. Second, no one ‘needed’ the cube to put Megatron down; it was used as a last ditch effort by Sam in self-defense, and given that he was otherwise unarmed, I can’t figure out what the problem is; besides, they almost did take down Megatron—as I recall, he was crawling on the street until Sam hit him with the cube. Thirdly, the humans using sabre rounds on the TF’s weren’t what would constitute commonplace in the sense of humans normally using bullets and explosives. The sabre rounds were equipped with high-temperature corrosive material; the TF’s themselves used weapons that would have to damage their shells and circuitry with something that would/could corrode the alloys/metals they’re made out of, so just because there’s a similarity doesn’t mean they are any less advanced. Fourth, it’s documented that the filmmakers refrained from using ‘matrix’ to avoid any entanglement with “The Matrix” franchise (personally, the less use of the word ‘matrix,’ the better, since outside of the first film and the last fight scene between Neo and Smith, the two sequels were very disappointing). Fifth, I agree with you that Turturro was a lame-brain agent; having said that however, Turturro is a comedic actor. It’s fair to say that Bay intended to make him a douchebag, but you’d have to ask him, and I think that expecting Turturro to all of a sudden become Chuck Norris is asking a bit too much. Sixth, I agree that Bush/DeCola did good work on the TF animated film. Having said that, getting good music in action films is like trying to fit Kirstie Alley into a clown car, and moreover, music today largely sucks—Linkin Park’s new album had 3 good tracks on it, whereas every previous album was flat out LOADED. I’m thankful that at least that made it into the film. Just to clarify, I agree the music on the film wasn’t as good as the original animated movie, but again, without just using the same stuff (which would’ve been a cop out), there isn’t much to choose from. Finally, the whole reference to Armageddon was just evidence that Bay has a sense of humor, best of all, about himself. He has to know that his films are formulaic and somewhat cliché; and since he didn’t actually write the script but he kept the line in just tells me he’s human.
As far as my arguments go, not once have I ‘re-badged’ any arguments of yours, w00kie, and I don’t need to. Nor do I ‘need someone to help me,’ as you called it. Every argument you’ve made has flaws. I’ve used those flaws in my posts to counter your arguments. That’s not plagiarism; that’s how debate works. Coincidentally, every time I’ve done that, you simply re-post using the same stuff; funny, I can still use those same points to my own advantage. So it sure looks like my ‘try-hard’ persona is actually just ‘find the flaws and exploit them.’ Again, that’s how debate works; on a side note, not once have you rebutted any of my arguments, and don’t kid yourself, I’ve made a few, and I’m still waiting for some honest criticism.
Whoa whoa whoa, I’M USING PERSONAL ATTACKS? Just a running tally, you’ve called me a “Bayhead,” an “Idiot who watches Fox news,” illogical and a plagiarizer. Every time I’ve referred to your ARGUMENTS (can’t stress this enough, arguments, not you as a person) I’ve characterized them as lame or weightless or weak. Not once have I called YOU anything.
hahahahahaha.. Who are you kidding here Vengeful NERD, you should really get of that high horse of yours..! You are NOT going to win this one, despite what you may think..
You know the sad thing about all this Vengeful NERD, you jump on this forum like a one hit wonder, all guns blazing, pretending to be more knowledgeable and informed then you really are on the topic… sounding all business smart when you say that “if they had kept the ‘boxy’ designs that they’ll look shit”….. blah blah blah.. You say that my arguements have flaws in them… they were left wide open on purpose (that doesn’t mean they don’t) because I knew you wouldn’t have any valid responses to my points (despite all your posts prophesing that you have)… You should really give it a rest with the ‘try-hard’ intelligent thing you got going at the moment, it’s getting rather boring..
But the questions still beckon…. Why wouldn’t the ‘boxy’ designs work..?? Has it been done before..?? You really can’t argue that point, but merely make opinions and some logical observations.. Why wouldn’t the old cars appeal to the masses (with some minor improvements)..?? Yeah to an extent you have, and i have taken that into consideration Vengeful NERD, but your schoolyard responses to these questions like “because they won’t”, just goes to show that you have know idea on the subject matter..
And on the topic that you brought up in one of your posts based on one of my points (and you can figure which one out for yourself)… How do you think Optimus Prime, become Optimus Prime in the first place..?? (don’t weazel your way out of it this time Vengeful NERD, because I am starting to wonder…??)
This is NOT a swipe at you Vengeful NERD, it’s merely an observation on your predictability and lack of understanding on the subject matter and the arguement, so don’t take it to heart.. OK..
And yes, the last two ‘matrix’ films did suck, they couldn have done so much more with that trilogy…. but that’s another arguement..
I’m starting to get the feeling, w00kie, that since someone has finally questioned your opinions you’re starting to feel a bit threatened; you use such pointed terms directed specifically at ME, even though all I’ve done is question your ideas, and not you yourself. I’m not trying to “win” anything; I’m merely stating my opinion, just like you.
I never said the boxy designs would look like shit. What I said was “I don’t know why they used that kind of design back then,” and then I offered a reason for using exo-skeleton designs. Also, I never said the old cars wouldn’t appeal to the masses, I said that in my experience the people I’ve asked said they’d rather see new cars and new machines transforming than old ones. You yourself called my points “logical observations,” so outside of that simple idea, what about it is incorrect? Also, I’ve never even used the phrase “because they won’t” when referring to any argument that you’ve made.
So, you’ve intentionally left flaws in your arguments because “you knew I wouldn’t have any valid responses to them,” huh? Well, I’ve answered your arguments using both your own flaws and some arguments of my own, and like I said before, you have yet to refute those, so I’d like a valid explanation other than “give it a rest.”
Finally, what is this Jones you have for “how did OP become OP in the first place?” If its trivia you want, okay, but I’ve never even hinted at any “argument you’ve made” in any sense about OP’s history/origin. But anyway, if you’re merely talking about the cartoon, OP started out as a normal robot named Orion Pax, and became OP when he was rebuilt by Alpha Trion after being attacked by Megatron. According to the cartoon, OP was the original Autobot. But then again, the comics have a slightly different take: in the Dreamwave version, he started out as Orion, and when Megatron killed Sentinel Prime, Orion was given the title of Prime, and then became Optimus Prime when he was rewarded with the matrix of leadership. In the Marvel version, he started out as an Autobot and was awarded the matrix of leadership after exemplifying extraordinary leadership skills and bravery in battle against the Decepticons. How’s that for understanding the subject matter?
All your posts point to one thing, you are not a fan… People who question my opinions are the very people who aren’t fans, who don’t give two shits about whether Optimus looks like Optimus, who don’t really care how Bays ‘adaptation’ will end up… There only real argument, much like your own Vengeful NERD, is that, “well at least the transformers have been done into a movie”… That is not the mentality of a ‘true fan’… I’ve been down this road before with other pretenders who questioned my opinions, with the same mentality as your own… However, for what it’s worth, I do respect you Vengeful NERD for trying (questioning my opinions… that is) will little success..
So you’ve answered my question on ‘how do you think Optimus became Optimus in the first place’… and..?? You straight away opted to make the assumption that I’m going trivial on you or that I’m somewhat testing you (I don’t know why you would think that… but anyway) I simply asked the question based on a point you brought up in one of your earlier posts (I’ll let you figure that one out)
I’m sorry to srping this on you Vengeful NERD, but I’m a purist – a ‘true fan’, so your dillusional and predictable mentality on this whole subject and the notion that you feel as though you have finally accomplished something in your life, which include make bold statements that I feel threatened… Not at all, Venegeful NERD, Not at all… I’m not even phased by your remarks, posts, replies etc etc… to the point that I haven’t actually taken any of your verbal diarrhea seriously from the outset.. regardless of what you may think..
You see, as I’ve said in my previous post, your a pretender.. Your no fan, your just someone who’s seen a few episodes of gen 1, didn’t think much of it, and doesn’t care about Bays ‘adaptation’ of the series, and feels that the changes had to be done to coincide with the new generation so it doesn’t lack appeal.. The most successful adaptations are the ones that stick closest to the source material.. An adaptation is basically a limitless ATM card for the studio willing to reign in erratic hack directors like Michael Bay.. Vengeful NERD, did you like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile..??? I did, many others like me liked it also, reason being… they were almost word for word transcribed from Stephen King’s novels.. I’ve said this before (and yes, Vengeful NERD, I am repeating myself) the ‘boxy’ designs could have undergone some ‘minor’ changes, but they could have done it without making them all look like mangled metal..
Bay has heaped a non-stop stream of derision and hate on the very property he’s been put in charge of ‘adapting’.. A good example of this, is not long after the movie was released here in Australia that I read in one of the publications, can’t remember if it was in the local rag, empire magazine or some other publication, either way this is what he had to say “Have you seen the ‘86 movie..?? Have you seen the cartoon..?? I tried to and I wanted to shoot myself..?? Well, I’ve been saying that since I jumped on this forum, so I was spot on with that one (alas… that Michael Bay and Speilberg have never actually sat down and watched the series in it’s true form and merits) True fans / die-hards like adaptations to be spot on or as accurate as possible without compromising on anything..
Look at it from this angle Venegeful NERD, did you like the old cartoon known as ‘Ulysses 31′..?? Would you be pissed off at the fact that Ulysses’ son who in the cartoon was called Telemachus and in the live action movie (if there was to be one made) had a completely different name or little Nono, the robotic sidekick of Telemachus, being changed to a robot resembling Number 5 from the short circuit movies… would you be pissed off, or would you just simply say, “well it needs a change” to appeal to the new generation or some ‘blast from the past’ bullshit…?? What about ‘thundercats’..?? Would you be pissed off if cheetara, had stripes instead of spots, that would defeat the purpose of calling her cheetara, wouldn’t it..?? Or what about Mumm-Ra being anything other then a mummified villain and his dog Ma-Mutt being changed into a great dane rather then the undead bulldog which he was depicted as in the 80’s cartoon… and breathing fire rather then poisonous gas?? Or what about the old classic ‘C.O.P.S’, would you get pissed off, if they depicted ‘bulletproof’ as a white guy rather then a black guy..?? GI-Joe, well, we won’t go into that one, as they are in the finishing stages of the live action version, so we’ll see if Stephen Sommers doesn’t mess it up, but from all accounts it looks pretty good, no wonder…. Michael Bay isn’t doing the freakin movie..
On that note, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree, because you can’t agrue with a true fan no matter how hard you try.. Call me stubborn, call me old fashioned, yes I am both and you can see why, but at least I’m not hiding behind arrogance and being someone I’m not..!
jesus…cartoon guru…
gimme a frikin list here or what I missed.
lemme guess you remember “my little ponies” and “rainbow brite” as well??
I do remember ‘My little Pony’ and ‘rainbow brite’.. Damn, i can’t believe people remember Rainbow brite, now that is a blast from the past (1985 i do believe).. And peter cullen was the voice over for many of the characters in both cartoons..
Oh boy ! it took me almost an hour to read all that … seems most of you who have posted above have been fans of transformer (cartoon) series, whatever has been on air since the beginning.
Now, let me introduce myself. I am from India, and had never seen any form of transformers before this movie.
Let me tell you guys, this movie was superb and simply awesome. You guys who are against (read calling them names )the movie and the directors and the creators of the movie, please think about this . I think out of the total no. of people who have seen the transformers movie, just like me, majority of them had never seen transformers before.
In fact, because of them , people want to watch the original series now. So they have boosted the popularity of transformers, and contributed more for it. They might have hurt a “true fan’s” feeling, but overall i think they made transformers famous all over the world.
So i will conclude my post by dedicating this line to the creators of transformers movie … “there is more to them than meets the eye” hahaha peace !!
Lets start by sayin, all the ppl that said negative things about the transformers movie, stop! Yeah I agree to dissagree! The movie was quite diff. and quite the same in many diff. ways. Come on ppl, start thinkin outside the box and stop gettin traped in it! U cant expect a cartoon to be made into a real movie, with the technology this day in age, and not have a few changes that had to be made so that ppl would not get bored with it! I have been a fan of Transformers since I was knee high to a cactus and I happen to love the movie and I have nothin negative to say about any of it, but I still love to take it back to the roots and chill with an oldie every once in a while! I hope that, and think that, the new movie will be just as entertaining to watch as the first one and maybe what Transformers needed was somethin new to pull in a new fan base, look at the last comment, this guy has never seen any Transformers before the first movie, and he loved it, not supprised! Anyway…try to keep an open mind when it comes to classics, things change and will change, but it just reminds the true fans of where it came from while still giving us somethin new to be amazed by! LATER TRANS FANS!!!
Wow, what a load of GARBAGE. I actually didn’t think you’d have the audacity to claim the mantle of “true fan,” but there you go and prove me wrong—the first and only thing you’ve proven me 100% wrong. There are no rules or guideline for this “true fan” persona you’ve created for yourself and whomever else decides to follow such a bad example. By implication, anyone who liked the new TF movie is not a fan of TF at all. How blatantly elitist can you be? If anything, the only people who have a right to decide whether or not the TF did the cartoon justice would be the original creators of the toys and their cartoon-maker counterparts. What fans, old and young alike, have a right to do is decide for themselves whether or not they liked it or whether or not they don’t. Merely picking one or the other doesn’t make the opposite any less legitimate for matters of opinion, nor can one claim that they are the “true fans” and thereby proclaim that none other than those who in their word will be given the ability to decide what can or cannot be done to the genre. Furthermore, what have you to say to those who didn’t like the original cartoon and actually enjoyed the film? Are they any less fans of TF than you? What if someone only liked the toys and not the cartoon? Are they still less of a fan than you? Do yourself a favor and don’t answer my rhetorical questions, because the answer is NO, they are not. Judging by the recent posts from t00fan and The Joker!, both new fans and old fans enjoyed the movie just the same. The Joker! had an excellent point, “Things change and will change, all it does is remind those of us who remember where it came from.” It doesn’t cheapen the old stuff, nor does it make the new stuff somehow better.
I still don’t know what question you’re referring to. What I do know is that what I said about OP was a quote taken from you when you said “any real TF fan would know OP was badass.” The point I was making was that OP lost some fights in both the cartoon and the comics. That’s a fact, not some stolen piece of privileged information, and I’d thank you to stop pretending that you came up with that idea all by yourself.
One final thought: I almost got upset when you said I wasn’t a “fan”—not even a “true fan” but not a fan at all. And then I realized just what this is. Before I entered this message board, I read all different opinions about the pros and cons of the film, and I felt that the con side far outnumbered the pro side. So I stepped on, offered my take, and was prepared to leave it at that. And then you came at me with all kinds of stuff, echoing the sentiment you just used here, “People who question my opinions are the very people who aren’t fans.” Taking this, and all the names you’ve called me, and how you haven’t rebutted any of my points with actual points and not name-calling, I realize now what this board means to you, w00kie. Here, you get to tell everyone how it is, how it should be, and thereby go about passing out labels to those who agree/disagree with you. Sadly, since I’ve been able to challenge your opinions/arguments, all you’ve done is label me without saying why they were wrong, and in doing that, you’ve made a qualitative judgment about me and my TF-fan “resume.” I didn’t come on here to “win” anything, and I’m not here to convince you of anything. I’m here to make a point, and you’re free to disagree, with the simple caveat that it’s done respectfully. I’ve been able to disagree with other people on this board, as they have with me, and each time it was done with respect. Sadly, that ability seems to have escaped you.
Nothing pisses me off more than the ‘true fan’ argument. The second someone pulls that bullcrap I immediately shut down anything else they say. I liked the movie a lot, so much so that I started this website. I appreciate that people may not be as high on it as I am but for them to say I’m not a fan is retarded. I appreciate your discourse here.
‘True fan’ as in, i like my things to stay the way they are, nothing more.. Is that too much to ask..?? And Vengeful NERD, that Optimus Prime point, was this, WHY was the final battle so one sided..?? We both know that Optimus won and lost fights, but to my knowledge they were never that one sided as the one in this movie.. That question I asked you was not meant to be trivial or otherwise..!
For what its worth, i do apologize for my outbursts.. But you know yourself Shawn, how much i hate this movie and thats why I vent my frustrations.. But I just can’t believe a classic series could be raped so bad.. Much like the above post, and all the others, I am a purist who likes things left the way they are.. Much like Venegeful NERD I do agree with The Joker! about the “Things change and will change, all it does is remind those of us who remember where it came from”… But WHY change it to begin with..?? And I do remember saying something along those lines in previous posts that I don’t mind small changes, but changing everything is where I draw the line… That is the reason for those outbursts, warranted or not..!
How could I have overlooked this… Why are you changing the subject..?? Here you are TRYING to put words into my mouth by making blatant assumptions that I personally claimed the mantle of ‘true fan’.. That is a bit rich, but where in any of my posts have I said that..?? Read my posts in this topic and others on this forum and understand the wording associated with the posts, because time and time again, I’ve said and I can’t stress this enough, that I am a purist who likes things AS IS..! I never claimed any mantle of ‘true fan’, that is YOUR assumption.. And what is this crap that ‘it’s my way or the highway’..?? Where in my posts did I come across as being forceful or pressure in ‘joining me’..?? Hmmmmmm..?? Yeah, I have called people such as yourself Vengeful NERD, ‘bayheads’ and whatnot for not being ‘true’ to the series or sticking by the series to make sure it stays true.. That is why I used the ‘true fan’ tag, if you for some reason misunderstood or misinterpreted it (and your not the first), that’s your problem… But as far as I’m concerned, that should have been pretty obvious because I have also said time and time again in previous posts what I meant by the term ‘true fan’ and shawn knows that also.. And those rhetorical questions, that’s been done already, your a bit late with that, and they have been answered, but I can’t recall NO being the answer..
And once again Vengeful NERD you repeating yourself, what will it take for you to stop doing that..?? Yet again you stated that I feel threatened because you questioned my opinions… Good for you, the thing is though, and i have said this before, people have been questioning my opinions since I jumped on this forum, so it’s nothing new and comes as no surpirse… but it’s been done already, so get over it..! And if you can’t let it go, at least question my opinions based on YOUR thoughts and NOT someone elses.. Your starting to sound like old re-runs.. And on that note, and while we are on the subject of ‘why are you changing the subject’..?? How come you don’t want to answer the question of whether you would be pissed off if classic cartoons like ‘thundercats’, ‘C.O.P.S’, and ‘Ulysses 31′ were changed to the point of confusion and royaly screwed up (that is, if they were ever made into a live action flick)..??
Oh, one other thing Vengeful NERD… what is your favourite movie..?? And on a more positive note and I have said this to Shawn already, for what it’s worth I do apologize, but you can’t fathom the hatred I have for that movie or Michael Bay for that matter..
“Here you are TRYING to put words into my mouth by making blatant assumptions that I personally claimed the mantle of ‘true fan’.” Really? Try this one: “All your posts point to one thing, you are not a fan… People who question my opinions are the very people who aren’t fans.” Those are your own works, w00kie. Here’s another bite: “your a pretender.. Your no fan, your just someone who’s seen a few episodes of gen 1.” Judging from your own words, this isn’t an assumption, w00kie, it’s a fact. Further, but implication, since I’m not a fan, and that other people who question your opinions aren’t fans, and your statement, “but at least I’m not hiding behind arrogance and being someone I’m not,” all non-fans are ignorant or, as you so eloquently put it, “pretenders.” In your own words, you have just put down or labeled people as either “fans” (those who share your opinions) or “non-fans” (people who don’t share your opinions).
Honestly, I’ve never seen Ulysses 31 or C.O.P.S., although COPS sounds familiar, but vaguely. Now Thundercats on the other hand, that I did watch and did enjoy, and I must tell you those examples don’t follow the same premise as TF simply because they are based on characters with DIRECT, and not aesthetic connections with their namesakes, i.e., Cheetara was a cheetah, Mumm-Ra a mummy, etc. What I’ve been saying all along is that the TF movie kept the premise of the whole genre, which is the whole focal point of the idea of TF in the first place. If Bay had changed Thundercats like you describe, then yes, I would hold his feet to the fire.
Frankly, my favorite movies range between action films and comedies, so my #1 is probably Superbad, with TF in either 3rd or 4th behind Spider-Man 2 and Anchorman.
You quoted me from my recent posts on the whole ‘true fan’ issue, fair call, however, those quotes or excerpts from my posts don’t point to the fact that I claimed the mantle of a ‘true fan’.. Yeah, I’ve said, but what I said could mean any number of things.. Anyway……
So would consider yourself a big fan of ‘thundercats’ back in the day..?? If so, then what’s the difference between you and I..?? You said yourself that you’d burn his feet if he were to royaly !&$% up thundercats, so really, your no different.. With the exception that you wouldn’t vent your frustration on the issue as I would..
I can understand that not many people have heard of Ulysses 31, afterall, it was made in 1981, before the re-made ‘astroboy’ (not the black and white astroboy in japan between 1963 – 1966) so I’d understand if people wouldn’t really care what changes are made to it, but C.O.P.S..?? Venegeful NERD, are you telling me that you never seen the cartoon..?? You cannot be serious, that it a classic cartoon if ever I saw one… Bowzer, Blitz, Hardtop, Bulletproof, Highway, Bullseye….. just to name a few, damn, this makes me wanna take out the boxset and watch them again.. gotta go..!
I will like to see Arcee in TF2 as well, but we all know that she’ll fall in love with Bumblebee and just like he help Sam with Mikaela.
I’ll said Arcee has a good personally.
Alright, this comment will be fitting the opinions of two fans that both disagree and agree with the Transformers 2007 movie.
First off, the body build of all the Transformers in general. We both agree that the structure of the Transformers fit the movie quite well. Why? Well, think about it. If we really wanted it to be like the G1 series, every Transformer would look especially blocky. Some of the opinions on this forum lead us to believe that they would prefer that instead of a more modernized style.
Second, the cars used to portray, say the Autobot Bumblebee. Would you really want to have a new VW bug in a chase scene with Barricade? I would be flashing back to Herbie or something. Michael changed it to the sporty looking Camaro to get across Bumblebee’s personality. We’re not speaking against the VW at all. We love the car. Just not in this movie. We agree that it wouldn’t fit.
Next, the storyline. It didn’t exactly capture the original storyline but we also have to consider the telling of the origin story. Maybe in upcoming movies the original baseline plot will start appearing as most would want. We’re sure that even the creator(s) of Transformers has to have some say in the production. They couldn’t make the movie without the creator(s) say so and ideas. They wouldn’t want to go to the movie showing and go, “What have they done?!” I mean, not to shift from Transformers, but the creators of Batman had a say-so in the movie production and even agreed on certain factors being changed such as the Batmobile, the suit especially, and the gadgets. Same applies for Transformers.
We also agree that certain parts of the movie could be changed. Like the day Sam and Bumblebee were being chased by Barricade. Sam barely woke up, got followed by Bumblebee, turned into a chase by Barricade, they picked up Megan Fox and sped off around the early afternoon, suddenly it became night and Barricade was still after them. They couldn’t put anything else in there? Sam and Mikaela decided to stay in this self-driving car the “entire” day without some sort of explanation as to what on Earth is going on? They could also change the length of like three days to at least a week. Come on. The movie took place within that little span of time yet still managed throw everything in that they wanted. It still sort of bugged us how fast the relationship between Sam and Mikaela bloomed so fast yet they really didn’t have the time to connect. They were too busy helping the Autobots and running for their lives.
We think this is all we really have to say. We respect other opinions because everyone has a different outlook on a certain thing. So, in general, there were parts of the movie we found perfectly suitable but we also found parts that could’ve used a bit of work. That’s it for our essay!

Well said…
Harlequin: Ah! No, no, no Eugene! Arcee is supposed to be with Optimus!
Joker: Has been from the very beginning!
Another comment!

If someone made a Thundercats movie and swapped the characters’ cat-themed names with another cat’s appearance, you’d bet I’d be upset. Any 3-year old whose been to the zoo knows that cheetahs have spots, tigers have stripes, etc., and as simple as a 3-year old’s mind works, 9/10 times they’d ask their parents that very question–”Mom, if cheetahs have spots, why does Cheetara have stripes?” Again, that’s different from changing a color scheme and vehicle make/model for story structuring purposes.
You heard me right, w00kie, I don’t remember watching C.O.P.S. That’s because I watched GOOD cartoons. Just kidding, I honestly remember only flashes of commercials about the toys, maybe a friend or two had some of them, but that’s about it. As far as law/order went, when I was a kid, it was GI Joe, RoboCop or nothing. Funny, I just read today that someone is re-making RoboCop. Before you ask, I haven’t heard anything other than that, so no complicated questions about what may or may not happen yet.
I dunno, somehow I don’t see the original ‘Robocop’ being topped.. Because the original was pretty good, had a good plot, storyline, pretty good actors, pity the other two sequels sucked.. But I would say the only way for Darren Aronofsky to improve on the original is to possibly make it darker and deeper… something along the lines of tim burton’s batman, and also give that metallic suite a bit of a makeover, like they did for batman.. I wonder if Peter Weller will reprise the role of Alex Murphy..?? I also wonder if Kurtwood Smith from ‘that 70’s show’ will reprise his role as clarence boddiker..?? That’s if they are not to old for the roles… I just hope that it’s not entirely CG, because that’ll just kill the mood..
First, I want to apologize to Shawn, for turning this page into an “I Love the 80s” board. After this last comment, I will try my best not to mention anything non-TF related from here on out. Having said that, I wouldn’t mind some new blood, some nobodies reprising those roles, and maybe making RoboCop darker, maybe in the same fashion of the Dark Knight (which was PHENOMENAL); I think Peter Welker has to be pushing 50-60, which leads me to believe he, as a cop, wouldn’t be out on the streets anyhow. KS is older than dirt, I don’t want to be responsible for him breaking his hip because I want him to get stabbed in the neck (again) by a cyborg law enforcement officer. Also, please don’t let ED-209 be ‘outwitted’ by RC, i.e., having it fall down some stairs. I’m BEGGING you.
This will be the last non TF related post as well..
Having new blood wouldn’t be a bad idea, making it darker and deeper would be a step in the right direction… Dark Knight was just insane, one of the best ive seen in a while.. I wouldn’t mind having a nobody reprise the role of Alex Murphy, but have a more dark and cold persona, something along the lines of being firm but fair.. When he gets made into RC, make him be cold and dark also, and be more harsh instead of the ‘dead or alive your coming with me’ persona.. As for Kurtwood Smith, maybe they can make him a ‘marlon brando’ rip-off, somewhat of a kingpin, and have his minions be ‘the dark knights – joker’ psycho’s, and out of control.. That would be something they should look at, because detroit in the original movie was seriously f***ed up, so a deeper, darker scenario would be fitting..
No, no, no Arcee is going to be with Bumblebee, and as for Optimus Prime he’s oing to be with Elita 1, HarlequinDoll. Beside people is going to believe what going to that plan out.
Aw, Eugene, I hope you don’t think you thought hostility was laced in my little comment. I do apologize, seems I might of gotten the two mixed up or something. I always thought ArceexOptimus. Oh well, I guess I’m wrong! Hehe!
Love, HarlequinDoll
XOXOXO
Its cool, now your getting it.
BumblebeexArcee
I wish Waspinator was in the movie.
wait a minute what happened to “Springer”? wasn’t he Arcee’s main squeeze after hot rod became Rodimus??
love it or hate it the live action movie has sure brought people out(including wookie.)TF has been on themay way before this movie so. lets hope the next one is much more than what the last one was.
Apperently Arcee has been cut from the sequel.. From what Orci had to say is that it was ’story driven’ for the reasons behind arcee being cut..
Now they can bring back wheelie..
I apologize for calling Springer a jerk okay but, he makes me jeasous when uh, you know with Arcee? But, I really like is Bumblebee should be in love with Arcee back in the 1980s why do they think about that earier?
But I don’t like when Optimus Prime dies. I wish I can sue that driector for making for such a animated movie like that but, is just I don’t even want to watch movie again. Besides I do like Bumblebee’s upgrade to “Goldbug” so that make Arcee love him more I wish.
To be honest Rewind, I haven’t been to the toys section of a Wal-Mart/Target/etc. in a while, so I’ll take your word for the Dreamworks logo on the toys. However, if what you’re referring to are the Armada/Energon/Cybertron toys, well there could be an explanation that would mean more than “profit,” such as the cartoons themselves are made by Dreamworks, or rather by a subsidiary company owned by Dreamworks—by this analogy, Spielberg has his greedy little hands on any number of properties made into toys, games, etc., but like I said before, he doesn’t “own” them in the literal sense of the word, and it’s very likely he doesn’t make every business decision for the entire network of companies.
As far as using GMC products for both the character vehicles and props, etc., if Bay decided to use them because he thought they were “cooler” than the original G1 models, then yes, I would say he’s a bit lazy. But we don’t know that for a fact, and assuming as much is just as lazy and rather hypocritical. For all we know, he made the decision after GMC made him a deal, that he gets whatever he wants for characters, props, sets, etc., and any director that has a sense of both financial and directorial responsibilities, in my opinion, should make that decision so that it allocates more funds for the sequences he’s going to create. But again, I don’t know for a fact what the reason was. On another level, I don’t know why Porsche wasn’t used. Like I said, neither I nor anybody hear has definitively said that Bay either didn’t want to use them from the beginning or that he received an offer and didn’t take it. For all we know, Porsche doesn’t need to have its products in a cartoon-based action film for us nerds—they are Porsche, after all—and it just as easily could’ve been them who said no to Bay. The same would work for Volkswagon or even Freightliner. One last thing, film directors trying to recreate something out of an older, possibly dated story, need only to be faithful to two things: his studio (they pay the bills, after all), and the original concept of the story. If every director was worried about not pissing off a fan base, then no one would want to do movies with the fear of a fan backlash every time something was changed for any reason. It isn’t fair to call him a “sell out,” or not a fan. Frankly, it doesn’t matter if he was a fan or not (but then I again, I don’t have the same problems with the film as you do) as long as he sticks to the original concept of the story. And he hasn’t “sold out”—he’s only done what Hollywood directors do, any director with a brain stem would act in much the same way, and like I said, WE DON’T DEFINITIVELY KNOW WHY Bay did x/y/z without any proof.
I didn’t mean to insult you Rewind for my criticism of your point about TF having “adult themes.” I merely don’t buy it. In my opinion, we as adults project those things onto the stuff we idolized as kids to give them some kind of value that they didn’t have or we didn’t see when we enjoyed them as kids. Personally, I watched TF for one reason: robots, alien or not, who can change into cars/planes/tanks/etc. are friggin’ awesome; I didn’t care what they say or do after the fact. Honestly, I went through most of season one and part of season two of G1 in the last week, and I have to tell you—an adult could not seriously sit through too many of them and not feel a little retarded. All I’m saying is that the toys were made for kids, the cartoons were made for kids to want the toys, and now the movie is made for kids to want to buy the toys. We as adults can re-visit those feelings we had when we played with the toys and watch the cartoons without that awkward feeling when we look at the strange plotlines the cartoon followed from time to time, and we are free to like it or not like it. Granted, the reason the movie came about is because the grown-up versions of those same fans wanted it done, but anyone who doesn’t admit to themselves that part of that reason is to attract new fans to the genre, and maybe then we can pass some of our old school taste along to them by getting them to check out G1, the comics or (heck) even Beast Wars/Machines is part of the fun—anyone who can’t honestly say that isn’t the case is only lying to himself.
The last thing you mentioned was the bio similarities between Arcee and Mirage. I gotta tell you, outside of the reference to the “cyberfoxes on Cybertron,” there isn’t much there to compare. Arcee is a hunter, Mirage is (was) not; Arcee’s friends were speedsters, Mirage’s were “high priced”; Arcee is actually eager to “sneak up on unsuspecting Decepticons,” while Mirage has to constantly be “cajoled by OP to continue his service with the Autobots.” Other than that one reference, they seem like complete opposites to me.
This is nothing more business, a money spinner (the toys, dreamworks logo’s plastered all over the god damn packaging, GMC getting their dirty paws in on the action etc…), and as the saying goes ‘money talks and bullshit walks’ and in the case of Bays ‘interpretation’ of transformers, that’s apparent.. When one waves a wad of greenbacks in front of your face, one tends to do stupid, foolish, and irresponsible things, the end result *Yawn* Transformers..
And on the topic of Mirage NOT being a hunter, your wrong… because while you are right Vengeful NERD that he was one of Cybertron’s elite upper class and ‘high priced’, he’d much rather spend his days hunting turbo-foxes instead of involving himself in any conflict that didn’t directly or in-directly concern him.. That is the main reason why he had to constantly be ‘cajoled’ into doing what was asked of him.. Mirage is a superior hand-to-hand combatant, and a skilled sharpshooter, having honed his talents hunting on Cybertron.. Arcee on the other hand was a gunner and was depicted as ‘being’ an excellent marksman who showed eagerness to fight, Mirage did not as per his persona.. That’s not to say that Arcee can’t hold her own in battle, but Mirage is the real hunter here, not arcee..
Actually Vengeful NERD i wanna apologize, your not entirely wrong.. But i’m sure you’ll reply and point that out..
All I did was point out what I thought was an incorrect statement based on the profile of two TF characters from there figure models; I took it word-for-word from a website that has TF toy info. Looking at the two of them side by side, the only similarities (that was Rewind’s point, that the two were essentially carbon copies, thus indicating a laziness when creating a character’s personality) I found were the terms “cyber foxes” and that the two enjoyed hunting them. Aside from those two statements, nothing was the same, so I don’t think I’m wrong at all.
As an update, I went into a place that sells TF toys yesterday, and all they had was the new animated series toys and the movie toys. While the movie toys had a small DW logo on the packaging (duh) the new animated toys didn’t. I just want to know what TF toys besides the movie toys have the DW logo, and I can’t seem to find anything that says the re-issues are “plastered” with DW logos or not. I don’t want to say anyone is wrong without having actual evidence of it, so if anybody has a link or something that shows me so, I’d like to see it.
That’s cool..
All I know is, is that from all the comics i’ve read, all the books i’ve read about TF they all portray Mirage as THE hunter, not Arcee.. Because all he cared about was hunting, he cared little for anything or anyone else… But I just can’t remember on what grounds was his reasons behind joining the Autobots to fight the war..?? As for the ‘plastered’ comment, that was a bit hasty of me to say that, but they do have the DW logo on them… as for the re-issues, I don’t think they do..
WOW! w00kie seriously. You know my son is a MAJOR fan. He’s three and I’m a girl and NEVER watched transformers growing up. So my husband and I went on a date to see the first movie opening night. I have never enjoyed a movie more. So we bought it and shared it with our son. We wouldn’t be fans if it weren’t for the new movie. Move over old man, the newbies are here and we want more!
Ps. We rented the older cartoons and my son said he’d rather watch the real Optimus Prime with the cube.
I rather like Bumblebee be to as Arcee’s lover rather then Springer. Bumblebee is the best boyfriend of Arcee that ever had and I know thats really going be in this sequel, I know it will, but our best luck is hope for their love and love never dies between Bumblebee and Arcee.
Bumblbee
+
Arcee
well, i wonder if they r going to have iron hide change sides in this movie
I apologize again for calling Springer a jerk, but the point is we know that we really want is Bumblebee to fall love with his own parther Arcee in the sequal.
Look, the fact of the matter is Micheal Bay’s depiction of the Transformers SUCKED. PERIOD. And furthermore I’m sick of people saying “Well duh, you had to modernize them, I mean come on 40 foot robot into a cassette or little car, I mean come on they need to be more modern, seriously…” UGH you assholes who can only enjoy the movie with a Bluetooth and some Starbuck’s must not remember THE TOYS. They all flawlessly transformed into their vehicle forms and robot forms while still looking pretty damn close to their cartoon specs. Something that those tools could’ve pulled off pretty easily, I mean we ARE talking about the creative genius behind The Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Arachnophobia, and… Freakaziod. “…..” It really blows when there is an opportunity for a really bitchin movie, but the starring actor is..Shia LeBoeuf. Oh yeah and Bumblebee radio-talks. Whatever the fuck that was supposed to be. Fact of the matter is, I want my nine bucks back, and i DESERVE to thunderkick Micheal Bay in the balls. Or simpler, the movie should not have been titled Transformers. I honestly would’ve rather watched fucking Space Jam.
I was starting to believe that I was on my own here, but there are other like me… God bless you halfway – what ive been saying all along, you summed it up beautifully..
These ‘new gens’ don’t know what they are on about, all they care about is how everything SHOULD be modernized and changed, what…. a porsche 911 GT carrera isn’t good enough to fit the mould of jazz..?? What… a cab-over truck isn’t classified as a truck because it’s not a big rig..??Why change and modernize, when you can simply improve.. I mean of all the porsche models out there to choose from, they chose a fucking GMC car, WTF..?? The only reason why these narrow minded, these miss guided individuals who people call ‘new gens / y gen’ (who might i add, are the same ones who are supposedly ‘die hard’ fans) wanted a change is because the old cars didn’t have cup holders to hold there starbucks..
As for Shia LeBoeuf, he’s not a bad actor, he just had a bad script to work with and was cast in a bad movie… that’s all.. But it wasn’t all bad, he got on with megan fox, what more do you want..
So help me god, If they murder Soundwave like every other character they did, I’m going to transform my foot into someone’s ass.
In the interest of saving time, I won’t rehash our debate in its entirety. I will pose the question, however: Is it wrong for fans of the old as well as new fans to enjoy this movie? True, it doesn’t look 100% like the original cartoon, but if it did, would it be as interesting? More importantly, what’s the point of being surpised or amazed by the idea of TF if you already know and expect what they will look like? The whole concept seems inherently boring and, quite frankly, the biggest showcase of plagiarism (I’m not sure that’s the appropriate phrase) I’ve ever seen. Like Bendis says, “Embrace Change…”
If it were done right, why wouldn’t it be interesting..?? And secondly, why change and modernize, when you can simply improve.. One thing I do wanna know though, will OP have his trailer this time round..??
What I mean when I say “not interesting” is that the literal cartoon-to-live-action translation would be boring. The fans from back then know what the cars were, what color each of them was, blah blah blah, and if it were all the same, there’s nothing to look forward to. Seriously, w00kie, the trailer? Even when I was 6 I thought the idea of a trailer was dumb. What the hell happened to it when he was in robot mode? And if you’re doing the A-B 100% thing, how the hell are audiences going to swallow that one? The truth is, he never needed the trailer, so leaving it out made more sense than trying to come up with some bullshit reason or explanation for having it “disappear.”
A truck without a trailer, hmmmm… what a great idea..?? It’s like saying I drive a convertible, but the roof is fixed to the car.. We all know the deal with the whole ‘disappearing trailer’ magic act, and i’ve been asking myself the very question as well even after all these years, but the fact remains that any TF fan would know that OPs trailer doubles up as a battle-station/command HQ.. So why wasn’t it used in that capacity in the movie..?? Im sure the little roller (alas the scout buggy) could have been used in some capacity also, couldn’t it..??
If the movie was done right, it need not disappear like in the cartoon..
Shame on you, w00kie, that is not even a reasonable comparison. The very nature of a convertible is that part of the car changes. Freightliner trucks can exist independently without trailers. Hell, a great deal of the time when they transport cargo they leave the trailers where they stop, and then go to another pickup site for another one. “Any TF fan,” I’m getting used to that as a response on here. I had OP when I was 5, and even then I didn’t understand how the trailer vanished and then suddenly reappeared wherever OP ended up; I can count only once having seen Roller (sadly, the only ‘Autobot’ who didn’t transform), and not one single time did the trailer turn into this ‘battle station’ you speak of. Trust me, I owned the toy, and I’m not forgetting the cartoon’s origin, but you can’t honestly expect me to swallow that one.
I’ll watch the whole Generation 1 series (it’ll take a while watching all 98 episodes), and I’ll get back to you with the episode(s) in which the trailer turns into the battle station/command HQ.. Because it did turn into it, but only on a handful of occasions..
Oh and Vengeful NERD, read my post, because I did state in it that I too have been wondering about the ‘vanishing’ trailer, whenever OP goes into robot mode.. And the whole concept of trucks leaving their trailer at one site and going to another site and picking another one there, I know the deal with that, as I worked in a transport company.. I also know that trucks can exist independently without trailer (who doesn’t..??), but the whole idea of OP without a trailer is kinda ridiculous and pointless, wouldn’t you say…?? knowing too well that OP hauled his trailer pretty much everywhere he went in Gen 1, because he was never without it (to my knowledge anyway)..
A good director / producer who knew the source material in which the idea came from, would have utilised the trailer to full use.. Secondly, I’m not calling you a liar Venegeful NERD, as it could have been on oversight where you and others didn’t see the trailer turning into the battle station/command HQ that i speak of, because it was so rare for the trailer to turn into it (it may have only been for a split second or it may have been for a full episode to get a glimps of it happening, but it did happen) But like I said, I’ll get back to you with episode names, and you can check them for yourself..
A good director with some common sense would know better than to try to explain the “vanishing trailer” to today’s audiences. Kids today are smarter than they were in the 80s; you can’t expect even a reasonable 7 or 8 year old to buy into something like that. What’s worse is that it makes more sense to leave it out because OP wouldn’t have needed it anyway since they were constantly on the move, and keeping it out eliminates some BS explanation about this remote-controlled trailer that reappears wherever OP transforms again.
Also, I have watched the original G1 series, many times in fact. Going back through season 1, I have yet to see one instance, not a single one, where that trailer transforms into the battle station that the toy used to do. I only remember seeing Roller, I think twice, in the entire history of the show, and even that was kind of lame–how is it an entire race of transforming robots has a remote-controlled car do its bidding, or better yet, why is it even necessary if there could be just a smaller transforming robot among them?
There’s nothing “reasonable” about a 7-8 year old.
You know what halfway, that’s a good point. Here’s proof: people in their mid- to late-20s today were the target market for G1 when it came out, so the majority of those watching the show when it originally aired were between the ages of 5 and 10. So, catering to what 5-10 year olds thougth was cool or made sense 20 years ago, without any ideas of how times, trends and people’s opinions tend to change with those times, seems a bit unreasonable too.
I went through the entire Gen 1 series, well fast forwarded at 100x on my dvd player, but that is beside the point (albiet I may have missed a few things along the way), however, I did manage to get a glimps of OP’s trailer opening up to reveal some of the contents minus the autobot aluncher.. Obviously, what I did see didn’t quite resemble the toy, but certain trailer parts were visible, even for a split second… because it was towards the end of the episode titled ‘more then meets the eye part 3′.. There were other times where just the back of the trailer opened to not only reveal ‘roller’ but in some episodes mounted weapons..
Secondly, do you actually bother reading peoples posts in their entirety Vengeful NERD or do you just read certain parts and try to question ones points and/or opinions on the matter..?? Because this is not the first time i’ve pointed out that if the movie was done right, the trailer need not disappear, which brings me to your point that explanations need not be necessary about the ‘vanishing trailer’ magic act, that’s so prevelant in the cartoon.. The trailer was/is a major part of OP, much like the canon is a major part of megatron… it’s like saying ‘let’s have starscream transform into a plane, minus the wings..
I read the whole post. More than once. Freight trucks don’t need trailers in order to make them functional. Period. Having a trailer when OP is in truck mode, then having it disappear when in robot mode, and then when he transforms back into truck mode wherever else he ends up WITH the trailer that he LEFT BEHIND is STUPID. Exactly what would the trailer be doing while OP is off running around? Even worse, it makes less sense to have the trailer moving around by itself, since that’s the only way it could move from its resting place.
Look at it from this point of view Vengeful NERD….. with the colour scheme of OP, and how they had to use blue and other ‘unnecessary’ colours for it to work.. I’m pretty sure that we all know that the colour red is a nightmare to photograph and you get no argument from me there.. However, is there only one shade of red in this world to choose from is there..?? Don’t tell me that every shade of red is a nightmare to photograph, because I find that hard to believe..
That it what I mean, why change and modernize, when you can simply improve and in some cases improvise.. What is so hard about that..??
I agree, are some fucking total spud boy flames entirely necessary?? Look, just because Bay and Spielberg “call” this Movie Transformers doesn’t make it so. A perfect example was, Frenzy, why, WHY, did they feel compelled to call this fucking bug thing Frenzy? Anyone who says that lame ass fag-bot was cooler then the original Frenzy is a fucking tool, he could make fucking earthquakes with his pile-drivers, that was fucking rad. And Vengeful NERD, the thing that ’surprised’ and ‘amazed’ me the most, about this “movie” was that it sucked so hard. Shia LeBoeuf is about the cheesiest son of a bitch on earth. You said “True, it doesn’t look 100% like the original cartoon” It doesn’t look 20% like the original cartoon. Starscream look like a fucking gorilla in robot form, there was nothing ’smooth’ about any of the characters, I was actually tolerated Jazz, he was O.K. And I will end with this, the LEAST they could’ve done was add the original transform sound WHY NOT? These douche bags make me want to choke slam 9 yr. olds.
You get no argument from me halfway, as I too have said something along those lines in previous posts..
Alright Transformers fans looks like we been strongly hinted about the sequal after all, we know we have watch the movie and I look in the internet, and I fine out Bumblebe has a parther Arcee in the comics and the next year we all know Bumblebee and Arcee will fallen in love with each other like in the comic book, and so as for Optimus Prime and Elita 1, which means they going to have autobabies when they mate and they’ll be togather forever.

Come on guys do it for Bumblebee and Arcee’s love. For Transformers for cybertron and for Earth!

Eugene, I have a serious question for you, are you fucking simple or what? “Alright Transformers fans looks like we been strongly hinted about the sequal after all” No shit Sherlock, actually if you look on imdb.com it flat out tells you that the movie is being filmed. Right now. Another thing, about your post, bothered me enough to take time out of my life to post this, “we know we have watch the movie and I look in the internet , and I fine out Bumblebe has a parther Arcee in the comics and the next year we all know Bumblebee and Arcee will fallen in love with each other” Jesus christ, it’s as if you tried to make this piss-poor attempt at something legible, as pitiful as it really is. I really hope that I am going to hell for this, because you are in fact, retarded. I don’t know, maybe your slap-ass drunk, in any case, ANYBODY who says “Autobabies” is a fucking TOOL.
Hey Halfway, you better watch your language that wasn’t nice, you being such a cyber-bully and should be ashame to yourself about Bumblebee and Arcee. I not slap-ass drunk and Autobabies is not a f*** tool.
So whats your Problem man did your mother ever clean up your potty mouth, so put a soap in your mouth party pooper if your’re not part of this team!
What a rip-off.
Eugene, by posting, anything, on this forum you are effectivly murdering the english language. Also you will notice no swearing on this post because I am infact “ashame to myself” and I took your advice and “put a soap in my potty mouth”. But seriously, were you having a seizure when you replied to my post? Seriously.
be nice kids or I’ll have to get crazy on somebody…
By the way, nobody has the balls to challenge my testament from earlier, about “Frenzy” and the original transform sound and other anomilies from the movie?? As Ice Cube would say “Come on n’ fuck wit it”.
I agree with everything except for one slight thing, the original transforming sound was in the movie, but only when ‘blackout’ transformed in the army base at the beginning of the movie (there may have been other times, but that’s the only time I remember hearing it) But even that sucked, because the original sound came before the transformation sequence even begun, so whats the point of having it in the first place..
Everyone here knows that in Generation 1, whenever they transformed, the original sound went in sequence with the transformation, not this bullshit – where it’s the sound that comes first and transformation second..
Yeah, I do actually remember hearing it once or twice maybe once with Prime, I think, but like you said, it was really weak. That sound is legendary, the sound of robotic parts moving around [like from the movie] is like Voltron shit. That sound defined Transformers and set them apart from fucking Go-bots. I want to punch Bay and Speilberg in the throat.
Hey what your mouth Halfway, you know you can in a lot of trouble punching Bay and Speilberg. Micheal Bay directed the best movie of the summer what did you got so mix up about, is doesn’t have to this way Half way? Why did you have to say that?
Eugene, I genuinely want to know if English is a second or third language for you, I’m trying real hard not to be the arrogant prick that I usually am, at this point, I’m just real curious. I’ve ruled out my theory that you’re in or around the age bracket of 7-12, or reading at said level. I came to this conclusion because you don’t spell many words wrong, there does however, seem to be such extreme grammatical errors, that I feel would run hand in hand with spelling simple words, if you were in fact between or around the age(s) of 7-12. So all I can come up with, unfortunately, is that English is not your first language. Whats the deal? I have to know.
Let me say right now that I’ve never watched TF as a cartoon and really don’t know the history, background of it. So I saw transformer with fresh eyes. I see this debate here and part of me things that you guys (the dissers) just like to read yourselves as you are just repeating and repeating the same thing, the other side of me somewhat understands where you are coming from because you are purist, tunnel vision (older dudes!). I don’t know why you guys are throwing Bay under the bus. I mean before he even started playing with the characters, Bay had to get the OK of the TF Gods didn’t he? Somebody had to authorize the story line, script and character depictions and so on. So if nobody did well, then, it certainly isn’t Bay’s fault if they OK’d it the way it was portrayed. I know it worked for me and for millions of people out there. It’s easy to talk trash when you are sitting at a keyboard and spend your day looking for bugs in somebody elses soup. I don’t think you guys are being fair. Do you realize the amount of work it took to make this film and $$? The special effects are incredible and the ensemble cast is awesome. Of all the post on here, you guys have voiced maybe 4% positive comments. You are spending so much time on something you seem to detest, what a waste of time, move on then! If you guys are really “true fans”, as somebody else said in a previous post, you should be grateful that Bay and Co. brought TF back and exposed it to a new generation. Guess what out-houses and wood stoves worked well too in the past, do you guys ever wonder why they changed the design and updated it with the times? Well, that’s my take on it.
Very often, they act like they invented Transformers and take it personally that someones vision for the Transformers universe is different than theirs.
I’m always glad to have the discourse but honestly it cracks me up how vehemently they go after the movie. I guess though that the passionate fans are the reason I started this site and I am tremendously honored that they choose this site to aggressively defend something they believe in.
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for your note.
Thanks for starting this site. I have learn from it. I always like a good forum to debate and discuss. It’s too bad though that this forum revolves around dissing this work instead of possibly sharing the old with the new. Why do people have to bring somebody/something down to elevate their own views. That’s the problem I have with some of these comments.
Yeah, $100 bucks says you definitely have a rainbow bumper sticker.
be nice
as you may know you corrected me on my grammical errors, and yes my first language is english, and im 15years of age. but listen this is a comment room, and im not writting a report to be graded on. so im not going to my time and to make commas, periods, quotations cause its not english class!!! so get over the fact that im not like you with writting all grammically corret.
GET OVER IT!!!!!
I want to open up an old argument with you Vengeful NERD, you see I stumbled on a very interesting clip of the famous battle between OP and Megatron in the animated movie back in ‘86 (you know the one where hotrod decides to interupt the proceedings and brought on the death of OP) anyway, go to this site http://WWW.HASBRO.COM/TRANSFORMERS/UNIVERSE, watch the clip and tell me what you see and think..?? You will not be disappointed, because if a clip like this can be done on a limited budget, can you imagin what $173 million can do..?? You see Venegeful NERD, you have the mentality much like Michael Bay and other in a way that… you feel as though everything old needs changing for it to appeal, without trying other things first and see if they work..
Why can’t boxy characters work..?? Is the very question that started most debates and arguments on this forum, but seeing this clip brings me back to the question… why not..?? I have said time and time again that boxy characters can work just as well as organic ones used in the movie (which I kinda liked) fair enough the clip is not as polished and is flawed in the animation department, but hey, limited budget vs $173 million budget, yet it turned out better then Bay’s attempt (and it only goes for a few minutes).. What does that tell ya..?? Yes it is computer generated compared with Bay’s live action, but if Bay put a bit more effort… who knows what could have been.. Hiding behind such lame responses like ‘because it won’t appeal’ or ‘boxy characters won’t work’ or this or that really doesn’t show that you have clear understanding of the topic.. Venegeful NERD, you are nothing more then a puppet that jumps on the band wagon without a clear motive.. I won’t revert to the ‘true fan’ comment as that was kinda hasty of me making such a call, but I am just as much a ‘die hard’ fan as most of the REAL fans on this forum.. What I will say is that your a pretender.. I have proven my points time and time again, and this clip just makes it all the more sweeter..
I don’t need to watch the clip, w00kie, I own the film. I never said the boxy designs wouldn’t work. If you had scrolled up the page you could have read that yourself. I also never said that the boxy designs wouldn’t appeal, although I have used the “appealing to new audiences” point on other aspects of the film. What I have said about the organic designs is that they work well because they allow you to see how the various parts of the robot change into the different parts of whatever it’s transforming into. Personally, I liked the organic designs, as did lots of people who saw the film, so why are they wrong because they share a different opinion than you do?
You haven’t proven shit, w00kie. You haven’t refuted a single one of my posts, whereas I have responded to each one of yours with rebuttals and counter-arguments. All you have to come back on is how I’m a “Bayhead,” or “Not a true fan,” and here you go again with this “Pretender/puppet” bullshit. It’s insulting to everybody who can discuss this stuff intelligently that you go right into name-calling and stereotyping others that disagree with you, instead of being able to hold a reasonable discussion. Frankly, I’m hoping you can wise up and show a little bit of integrity when you start passing out badges of fandom to others, and take a look at yourself.
Shawn, sorry for the langauge, but this is getting to be a bit much.
Hey, it’s fine, I agree with you. The ‘real fan’ thing really chaps my ass.
I liked the organic desgins as well, if you have bothered to scroll down my posts I did state that on more then one occasion.. Even though I hated them at first, they kinda grew on me.. However, and I have said this in the past, I have seen car commercials here in Australia and from around the world that use transformers to transform into cars which used a boxy / organic design and there was not a things wrong with that, so why didn’t Bay..?? I know that I’m repaeating myself here, but why won’t they work..?? And please don’t bore me with the ‘appealing to new audiences’ crap.. If the movie was done right the first time (and I’ve lost count as to how many times I have said this) it would have appealed not only to new audiences who aren’t familiar with the TF universe, but old fans alike.. And everyone would have been happy (myself included) Why couldn’t Bay use his initiative and used a mixture of boxy and organic..?? If Bay is such a big player in hollywood, why not use his status and make a movie properly without compromising on certain aspects..??
Why don’t you want to watch the clip..?? How come you are avoiding it..?? Instead, you go on tell me that you own the film, half the worlds population owns the film (myself included, even though it was only a gift… thank god for that), why would say something stupid like that..?? Why change and improvise on a working formula, when you can improve on it..??
I think Jameel put it best: organic designs give the Tfs texture, and boxy designs make them less alive. The idea is that the TFs are living creatures, able to express emotions, have feelings, etc., and the film crew decided that having aliens whose shells resemble earthly creations, but the insides reflect their alien nature gives the audience a sense of what that would feel like in person. That point notwithstanding, making the TFs boxy, IMO, is an incredible cop out, and goes to my point: why make a new, live-action film based on a 20-year old cartoon if you’re just going to use the same exact material? You’re not improving anything by using the exact same concepts as those that came before you, you’re effectively plagiarising them. It doesn’t make sense. It’s about as worthwhile as Lucas redoing Star Wars with added footage that is more PC than what was considered acceptable when they originally aired.
Why would I watch a clip of a movie that I’ve seen hundreds of times? I own both the original cartoon movie and the 2007 film, so you’re not showing me anything new; you find something no one has seen before, send it my way. Otherwise, I’m not going to waste my time looking for something that isn’t lost.
You know…quite frequently I happen to be minding my own business, legitimately googling something for my own personal knowledge. I was watching the 1080p of Transformers because we just recently got our 720p TV and 1080p projector, and considering I already knew at this point the sequel comes out before long, I wanted to find out the plot, because I along with many other Transformer fans had some hope about what it might be. Fortunately, I stumbled upon this retard. I love when this happens, I go through the process of registering for forums and websites just so I can tell you how big of a retard you are.
Wookie your arguments are so full of gaping holes and baseless personal opinion, which I might add you have never referenced any support from anyone for your radical and stupid statements, I have no choice but to troll the bejesus out of you.
First of all, you obviously watched the movie, rendering your entire argument moot. You saw the movie, and whether or not you paid for it, WATCHING Michael Bay’s crap just empowers him to continue. Personally, I along with most sane tasteful people hate Michael Bay and what he does and what he stands for. Regardless of that, we all saw the movie, and we’ll all see the sequel, so you may as well shut up about Bay sucking because it’s common knowledge he’s a general visionless sellout. However, enough degression.
Every transformers fan on the planet saw and loved this movie, no matter how much they think Transformers was warped and raped. The creators of the movie altered the voices and appearances of the Transformers to make them BELIEVEABLE. You idiot. If you had bothered to watch the bonus disc you would understand the reasons for the changes. Transformers was a cartoon. As such, for various reasons, such as color, proportion, shape, character design, the way the Transformers looked back then can not be feasibly converted into a live action film and be taken seriously. The old transformers would look retarded translated into a 2009 generation movie, with the amazing special effects capabilities we have these days, it’s a crime not to maximize every visual aspect of your movie if you have the opportunity. If there is a character, a giant autonomous robot for example, on the theater screen, you as a director and a producer want something people will LOOK at. A giant white box compared to something with texture and personality and eye candy sells a lot more tickets, appealing to multiple audiences. People who want to see something interesting, not something boring. Let’s face it, the appeal of Transformers was not the story. The story is not bad, but if it were human beings instead of 10 meter alien organisms, would you care? No one would.
On another note, I have to go on record and say this movie did not suck at all. It featured very uncommon actors, with the exception of Voight, and although it was Micheal Bay-y and had a lot of special effects and cheesy humor and cliches, it was everything I expected from a Transformers movie. My only complaints were that we were used to seeing the Transformers in a setting where they seemed normal sized, instead of in comparison to people who are much smaller (usually), so you rarely got to see a good shot of the Transformers entire bodies.
However, again I must point out what a dipshit you are Wookie. You actually have the audacity to say Spielberg sucks. Are you 12 years old? Do you have any comprehension of Spielbergs filmography? Schindler’s List, Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Jurassic Park, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, ER, Arachnaphobia, Joe Vs. The Volcano, Land Before Time, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Goonies, Money Pit, ET, Jaws, Hook? Need I continue? Steven Spielberg has been responsible for a massive chunk of the most successful and substantial video productions in our lifetime and you have the audacity to call him bad. Go die in a fire.
Read what I wrote in my recent posts on Speilberg, I took back what I said about Speilberg…. Can’t you read..?? Obviosuly you can’t because you missed that point completely..!!
Just read my posts Jameel to get a better ‘understanding’ of what has been said thus far.. Oh, and Jameel, your trolling is awesome, keep it up..
You forgot these….. Seaquest DSV, The flinstones, Men in Black, Men in Black II, the mask of zorro, Deep Impact, Back to the future part III, Gremlins 2: the new batch, Flags of our fathers, batteries not included, Artificial Intelligence, Amistad, Munich…. Need I continue..?? I too know Speilberg’s filmography, so don’t make out to be the foremost expert on Speilberg.. OK.. Because I will take a stab in the dark and say that most of the people on this forum would know speilbergs filmography..
Like I said read my recent posts, I did state that I was sore at him for not being more in charge of the transformers film rather leaving everything to Michael Bay.. I also stated that he would have made a better version of TF if he were in charge, and with a person of your experise on all matters ‘Speilberg’, you’d know that.. So why did he leave the directing etc… to some inferior hack like Micheal Bay..?? Someone of Speilbergs status and pulling power should have been more involved with the TF movie rather then sitting back and watching it being butchered by Bay.. I also stated and I have acknowledged it since that I was a bit hasty with my comments on Speilberg, but because of your crayon set mind, you probably overlooked that part along with everything else because of your inability to read..
“Every transformers fan on the planet saw and loved this movie, no matter how much they think Transformers was warped and raped.”
Really..?? So you have physically talked to every TF fan on the planet, and that was the response they gave you.. And your calling me retared with comments like that, I will say this to you Jameel, don’t give up your day job..
“The old transformers would look retarded translated into a 2009 generation movie”
Why..?? And don’t give me this rubbish about that boxy characters wouldn’t work, that they wouldn’t appeal to the masses, or this or that… I’ve been down this road with other people on this forum, if it were done right, they could have combined the two designs… if it were done right, it need not look retarded… if they had a ‘proper’ director then it definetly would have been done right (alas George Lucas, Speilberg, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Jerry Bruckheimer and even Peter jackson)
“your arguments are so full of gaping holes and baseless personal opinion”
Really..?? Why is that..?? And what parts didn’t you understand for you to come to that conclusion..?? Perhaps I should start writing my posts towards your level of intelligence..??
And as a parting note Jameel, what about you go and die and I just set you on fire..??
It seriously DOESN’T matter what details they change. We’re not talking about Battletech vs Mechwarrior Dark Age, or Star Wars, or the differences between BSGs, the details are completely irrelevant. The point is that Transformers continues to live on in a similar fashion to its heritage.
We are not talking about boardgames here Jameel, battletech and machwarrior dark age (alas mechwarrior: the age of destruction) are the same in mech design and so on, there is nothing different between the two… So using that as your contention and basis for an arguement and trying to prove a point was rather pointless… Secondly why did you put star wars into this debate, you can’t compare that to anything if you wanna make a point except for star trek..
Next thing you’re going to do is try and compare voltron & guyver or robotech & the gundam universe.. Quit while your ahead Jameel and save yourself from further embarrassment..
Geebus Christ. Look, I dislike Michael Bay quite a bit. He is a total Hollywood tool. He could make decent Car commercials and thats about it. Armageddon decided to take every law of physics and toss it out the window all for the sake of making a film he thought would be easier to sell to audiences. And with Transformers he followed the standard line of changing whatever he felt necessary to make the movie more entertaining to the general audience.
That said, I’ve learned to let go of all that. Why? How? Because at the end of the day, it’s my 10-15 dollars and I went in there to be entertained. If I’m overly critical, I’ll just spoil my own good time. The douche-bag will continue to make movie, whether we all like it or not. So just sit back, replax, enjoy, or shut the fuck up. Yes the characters were all messed around, yes they are were changed. Yes super hotties were grossly miscast into techie roles. Yes the movie was pumped full of product placement. But you know what? I don’t give a shit because I don’t want to. It was just Armageddon with robots. If you dislike it that much, go stand outside Bay’s house and protest. When you can get him to admit he’s a lowsy director and give away his phat cash, give us a call.
Hey there seems to be a lot of disgruntled fans of the live action movie out there. How about you all pool your money and make a film the way you all want it? Instead of using this site to complain about what others have created, why not write ideas that can be created into your very own movie. I’m sure there is enough people out there willing to contribute. It could be a grand thing, a movie created by the fans, for the fans.
I somehow doubt that hollywood would like the idea if being out done..?? These corporate morons would do anything to shut us down, you know the drill.. However, fans doing their own movie the way it should be done would be an awesome idea, I for one would be in and I for one would put money into the idea as long as others take the plunge as well..
That sounds good, except you have millions of fans, so what happens when they can’t all agree on “what the fans want” out of a TF film? Even worse, you’re probably going to end up with some of the exact same stuff you got in the original cartoon series and/or animated movie, so what’s the point? If you’re doing the exact same thing as the original story, what’s the incentive to watch something–excuse me, pay $15 to watch something that’s already been done the EXACT SAME WAY?
I don’t mean to put you down, HOJ, I understand the appeal of doing this, but in my opinion it just doesn’t seem feasible.
Certainly, ideas change with generations, and i kinda got that impression early on in this forum that, that was the case… However, when things get caught up in greed then the basic fabric of originality, logic, normality etc…. is cast aside.. Michael Bay made that pretty clear in the first movie, and a quote from Gordon Gekko “for lack of a better term, greed is good”, well that kinda sums it up rather appropriately wouldn’t you say..??
Hence the reason why this idea is a good idea, because it’ll be made by the fans for the fans and new fans alike.. Yes, “certain” aspects of this idea wouldn’t be easy because we’ll have so many ideas thrown around, so coming to an agreement wouldn’t be easy, but it can be done.. You say it wouldn’t be feasible..?? Why..?? If it were done by the fans, your guaranteed a better movie then Bays offering.. Using the orignal story as some what of a guide (whether it be the series or animated movie) we can utilise certain elements of the orignal story such as emotion, the setbacks, the will power etc… and put it into the fan made movie..
I know from what angle your coming from Vengeful NERD, but team based projects or hollywood blockbusters in the making always start off with negative feedback and criticism such as “whether or not it’s feasible” or this or that, but when you put everything together and plan it out properly something good always comes out of it..
Two examples of too many people trying to voice their concerns about what would work best in a film: Spider-Man 3 and Batman & Robin. SM3 should’ve been one of the greatest super hero films ever, and instead gave in to massive fan appeal and the necessity to resolve the current storyline laid down by the first 2 films. B&R didn’t have anything to start with, and the push from fans to have even more villains than before inevitably bore fruit in the shape of one of the worst films ever created, as well as the demise of Joel Schumacher’s directing career (or at least it should have). I don’t want to rehash the arguments we made earlier, just know that by adding too many details to something that doesn’t require them will only make things more complicated and even less developed than if you center on a premise with only a few details.
Have any of you ever seen the sun? Seriously. I came in here looking for a couple teasers on the new flick ad found you basement-dwelling fanboys trolls debating a fucking movie as though it were nuclear disarmament.
All of you need to grow up and get a life. If you didn’t like the movie, then fine. Shut up. If you did, then great. Hope you like the new one. Now shut up.
Last time I checked this was a forum where we *surprise surprise* debate about all things TF.. Isn’t that what forums are all about, where people debate and learn to agree to disagree..?? Maybe you haven’t seen the sun much either, judging by your post..??
C’mon man…damn. For starters, I am older, I grew up on the original Transformers and can remember perfectly the excitement at seeing the original movie/cartoon. I dont see how it matters that OP isnt a cab over, he is still a semi. w00kie, you yourself said early what does it matter if BB was a bug instead of a camaro, well, exactly…what does it matter? Which means it doesnt matter if he was camaro instead. I am a huge fan of Transformers and still to this day have the majority of all the original toys…I just seem to keep things and call them “collectables” so I still have them all. I loved the movie and think that it made it better that they updated them. Sure some of it was for product placement, but I think in present time that BB as a VW Bug would have sucked, I even think that and I’ve always loved BB. You have said that the director never watched Transformers before doing the film, but he did watch them and learn about the story after taking the job and before doing the film. The movie gave a “fresh” look to a cartoon series that was very much “dated” when it came to its vehicles and weapons. Since the originals were dated, it only makes sense that they should again be dated in the present when making a “remake”. The fact that I liked the changes doesn’t make me less of a fan and the fact that you didnt like the changes doesnt make you an idiot like some of the posts have put out there, it’s just opinions, and in my opinion…someone who loves the Transformers is right, no matter where that opinion goes from there. Now lets start looking at a Thundercats remake….lol, lets go old school on these kids and their “new age” nickolodean cartoon crap. Bring back all the good “oldies” that we grew up on. LOL
I never said ‘what does it matter if BB was a bug or a camaro’.. I’ve said from the outset that i hated the changes imposed on the TF’s.. I thought I made that pretty clear in my posts of what I thought of the movie and everything in between..??
All I’m hearing is this crap that ‘it needed to be modernized’, or ‘that it wouldn’t appeal to the masses’ or this or that… is that the best that people can come up with in this day and age..?? Your the second person on this forum that has said that they were ‘dated’… how can a porsche be ‘dated’…?? So your saying that out of all the models of porsche out there in the world, they couldn’t choose one to suite Jazz (minus the racing stripes)..?? How can a VW Bug be ‘dated’…?? The new look VW Bug looks shit loads better then the original, why not just get the guys from WEST COAST CUSTOMS to pimp it up or something.. And how can a ca-over be ‘dated’..?? I just don’t understand some peoples logic behind stupid comments like that, I really don’t.. There are so many different ways of making things work, yet Michael Bay opted for the easy way out, and change the whole god damn thing.. I’m also reading how people are saying that Red is a nightmare to edit, photograph, capture etc….. but last time I checked, there is more then one shade of red, so why add ‘extra’ colours to OP for the colour scheme to work..??
What, Bay thought that in order for the side story of a guy trying to get the most popular girl at school to work, BB needed to be changed completely, just goes to show how shallow and narrow minded chicks like Megan Fox are these days, did we not all see how Megan Fox’ character’s eyes just light up when Sams car returned as modern day muscle car.. You also mentioned in your post that Bay watched the transformers
‘after’ he took on the job, instead of researching the story before hand as well.. Really..?? Then I clearly must have missed something there, because there is no proof of that in his ‘interpretation’..!
On a lighter note, I agree with you Mike, bring back the oldies like thundercats, C.O.P.S etc…. let’s hope Hollywood doesn’t fuck those up as well..
What Mike 731b is trying to say, is that if Bumblebee had been a VW Bug, old or new, he would’ve looked, for lack of a better term, like a pussy. If the idea is that Bumblebee is a protector, it doesn’t make him look very tough if he’s an itsy-bitsy VW bug. Even if they ‘pimped him out,’ as you suggest, people still see him as a bug, a car that, honestly, is driven mostly by females (hence, the immasculation).
On a personal level, I wouldn’t pay anything to see a monstrosity from West Coast Customs rolling around ready to fall apart. I won’t speak for anyone else, but most of the work they do looks great at first, but the more I see of it, it’s just more shit in a car/vehicle that doesn’t help it drive; who the fuck care if a car has a dvd player in it, or whatever, if the thing hits a bump in the road and pieces of it fall off?
Ok put aside the rooftop mounted DVD players and 42″ plasmas mounted on the hood of the car, the fact of the matter is, is this Vengeful NERD, the VW Bug is and always will be associated with Bumblebee regardless… If Bay and co. were so keen on the bullshit side story where the guy gets the girl next door, why didn’t they use that idea and have Jazz be sam’s protector..?? It would have been cool seeing a scrap heap of an 80’s porsche morph into a 911 GTS R3 in the tunnel.. And yes Vengeful NERD i do know that Jazz is OP’s 1st lieuntanent equipped for combat and not being a teenagers babysitter, but at least Bumblebee’s vehicle mode and robot mode would have been intact and left unchanged..
What is it with Hollywood and their god damn side stories that make no sense and have no ‘real’ relevance in the battle between good and evil anyway..??
The ’side-story’ is the whole means of relating what’s going on between the two races (humans/robots), e.g., what creates the story’s premise in the very beginning. If you do away entirely with the humans’ relationship with the Autobots/TF in general, you’re left with nothing but a stereotypical alien invasion story, and that’s not what TF is. I understand that Bumblebee is associated with a VW Bug, just like (sadly) most old-schoolers associate, say, Iron Hide with some chester-molester van, or Megatron with a phuck-ing German pistol. The key question is, do those details mean a damn thing? In the end, I (and a great many peopel believe) they don’t. In fact, with some of the changes, the story’s weak points were made BETTER than the original. Exactly what good does Megatron do if there’s no other Decepticon there to ‘fire’ him at the Autobots? What do robots who transform into mobile vehicles need with a spaceship? Why would robots choose to transform into the weakest types of vehicles on the planet (mini-vans, I refuse to believe, are helpful in military-style operations)? Overall, if you weigh the changes that made sense with the old-school story, the changes won.
Just a last note, I get it, w00kie, you want a Porsche to be used in the film. Does Jazz’s not being a Porsche ruin his character? No, it doesn’t. He still acted like the Autobot who, according to his original character description, was the one that tried to acclimate himself to the pop-culture atmosphere of the planet, so making him a sportscar, although not a Porsche, doesn’t ruin the movie for me (and, from the looks of things, most people).
What I meant by ’side story’ was not relating to what’s going on between the Autobots and Decepticons, much rather the pathetic side story where Sam is trying to get the girl next door.. Where does that ’side story’ fit in to the history of the transformers and the war between the two races..?? Much like that bullshit side story in ‘war of the worlds’ where tom cruise has to keep his kids safe and make sure they get to Boston in one piece, what relevance do ’side stories’ have in the eventual outcome..??
What good is Bumblebee transforming into a muscle car when his character is a piss weak bitch that still possesses the same characteristics as that of BB in the cartoon series..?? What good is OP becoming a more fearsome looking semi, when his characteristics don’t match that of OP in the cartoon series..?? OP got owned big time in the movie, since when does OP go down that easily in a fight… fair enough megatron is and always will be a formidable opponent, but to go down that easily.. And did they have to change Jazz in order to keep his pop culture personality..?? I think that the ‘changes won’ comment you made has no merit..
Speaking of which, what changes won, I’m still trying to get my head around that comment..?? Secondly, what weak points of the story were made better then the original..?? I know that we are going down the same garden path yet again, but all you are doing is avoiding the issue… you have not once given me a valid reason for me to say ‘yep, i actually agree with you Vengeful NERD’.. If you were to have given me a clear and concise reason as to why these changes needed to be made then we wouldn’t be debating about this as long as we have, even though i do like an argument, but that’s beside the point.. All your posts point to one thing and that is, you post what people want to read rather then figuring shit out for yourself.. You sound like one of those drones who needs his master to hold his hand in order to accomplish something.. Why am I saying all this, it’s simple really, I have read posts similar to yours in other forums… I’m not having a go at you Vengeful NERD, but tell me something I don’t know please.. Give me something I can work with, not something that I already know..
First of all, that ‘side story’ in “War of the Worlds” was what gives the story perspective. Without that, we’d just be watching aliens invade the earth, with no central story angle or plot – you chose (again) a poor example to try to make your point. The ‘side story’ in TF falls into the same format: as a HUMAN audience, you need to have at least some traces of humanity involved. In the cartoon, that was the reason Spike and Sparkplug hung out with the Autobots all of the time. That kind of story may fit in the comics, but where someone who doesn’t follow this stuff religiously needs to have a way to relate to what’s happening. The audience puts his/herself in Sam’s shoes, and you’ve got your angle. Most importantly, humans are the dominant species on this planet – at some point, they’re side of things has to be told, and the best place to do that is in the first part of a story, so that the next chapter(s) can focus on the TF’s themselves.
As I recall, Bumblebee’s character wasn’t a pussy in the movie, so that’s one example of a change from cartoon-to-movie that was generally accepted, and actually worked. Optimus Prime wasn’t as lame as you make him out to be – he ripped off a Decepticon’s head, if I’m right – but he met his match in Megatron, which has happened numerous times in the cartoon. The movie made it a point to hype up how evil and powerful Megatron is, and one very good means of driving that point home is having the best of the good guys take a few good hits; another example that both makes sense and was generally accepted. As another poster pointed out (and I’m pretty sure I made a similar argument before) was that these movies require companies to donate prop’s, models, etc., so that they can be destroyed, take beating during production, and by getting a good offer from a company to provide those products is not something a smart movie maker will turn down lightly, for ANY reason, and again, nothing about Jazz changed as far as his character goes, so crying about how he didn’t look exactly the same is a waste of time. So far, that ‘s me 3, you 0.
I’ve give more than enough reasons to support my side w00kie, and I don’t need to apologize if you choose to ignore the obvious. Every time you’ve posted, I’ve offered counter-arguments supported by ideas that have been made by other fans and the movie makers themselves, so take them as you will. When I say that the movie’s changes made the story ‘better,’ I mean that you don’t have to ignore obvious problems, such as: What happens to Megatron if he transforms and he’s the only Decepticon there? Why do robots who transform into vehicles need a spaceship? What part of the continental US is completely unexplored, i.e., how can no one have discovered a spaceship sticking out of a mountain before? I could keep going, but that’s enough for now, seeing as how I’ve “figured shit out for myself,” and all. I don’t really see what you’re crowing about, “drone needs his master,” but to be honest, it’s pretty dumb.
First things first, and I’m aware that it’s after the event, but Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year..
After reading your post Vengeful NERD, I can’t help but notice how desperate you are… I mean keeping count (you 3 : me 0), seriously dude, you should really get over it and over yourself for that matter, who are you trying to impress..?? Leave those childish comments for the playground OK.. Are you really that arrogant and naive..?? Every time you’ve posted you’ve constantly made the bold statement that you counter-argued my points and so-on..?? Huh… did I miss something..?? Where in any of your posts did that happen..??
It’s like as if you are on a mission to prove to someone or to impress someone that you know things.. You can write what you want in reply, but you really have not given me anything to prove that you are the top shit that your making yourself out to be.. All I’ve read in your posts is how you think that this won’t be feasible or that won’t be feasible, how this won’t work or that won’t work, how in order for the movie to ‘appeal to the masses’ everything had to be changed, how all the vehicles (including porches) are dated and needed an overhaul, and so on and so forth….
My question is this Vengeful NERD, In what way will it not be feasible (regarding fan made movie)..?? In what way will it not work..?? In what way will it not appeal to the masses if left unchanged..?? And this time vengeful NERD give me a straight answer NOT rubbish and BS.. And secondly, how do you know that a fan made movie won’t be feasible..?? How do you know if it was left unchanged that it wouldn’t work..?? And again, give me a straight answer NOT rubbish and BS..
And as a parting note to you Vengeful NERD, by my calculations your actually on 0, because you haven’t actually been able to prove me wrong or post anything that is informative and intelligent, so technically I’m ahead of you by a country mile, but I’ve lost count… but who am i boast about it, I’ve got better things to with my time then keeping count of something stupid like this..
First of all, 3-0 is a generous estimate, and that’s only going by that one post. All you have to do is scroll up the page, look at my posts along with your’s, and any creature with a brain stem can see points and counter-points, with me giving my counter-points to your questions, and with you basically picking up all of your marbles and going home. It’s not childish – it’s a FACT, and I don’t need to impress anybody, it’s my opinion, and you can take it or leave it. However, you seem to not be able to accept that someone can respond to your complaints by making further suggestions, only by wasting time writing a rant about ‘dribble’ and ‘BS’ and how ‘desparate’ I am.
Second, I personally don’t think a fan movie is entirely feasible based on the range of opinions out there as to what would look good in a film and what wouldn’t. For you, those old vehicles and colors would be like lightning striking the tip of your penis; others would like a similar style ableit contemporary take on the designs. Also, who’s to say what the exact storyline should be? My impression is that you want a perfect 1-1 translation of cartoon to film, and others like myself wouldn’t mind removing the parts of the cartoon that were both corny and lame. What’s the point of going through all of this if it’s just a carbon copy of the original? Why make it at all? This stuff sounds simple, but little things like that derail potential movies all the time. Nothing gets accomplished if people can’t agree, that’s my point. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be worth trying, but that’s my opinion.
It’s rather amusing to see how my opinions have gotten under your skin; sort of like watching an atheist trying to convince a religious person why God doesn’t exist.
You da man Vengeful NERD, you are da man…. (don’t you just love sarcasm this early in the morning
) Once again, and I’m not at all surprised, you have pointed out how you counter argued and re-butted my points and whatnot, are you really that arrogant, naive and desperate..?? Every single post you have made thus far, you have stated how you re-butted this and counter argued that… like you said in your post that any creature with a brain stem can see that that is not the case… all you have to do is scroll up the page to see that..
If you really want to bring up the whole re-butting, counter argue rubbish on a regular basis… that’s fine with me, so if that is the case… do you really want me to point out all the topics that you brought up thus far that I shot you down with my counter points and my opinions..?? All you have to do is scroll up the page to see which ones, and yes, there’s a few of them that you missed… Which you for some strange reason avoided counter arguing, the great Vengeful NERD lost for words, instead opted to avoid it all together, because he knows that his wrong on all counts.. You disappoint me Vengeful NERD, here you are keeping count, thinking how you got under my skin, how you feel as though you re-butted me and so on… but what about all the questions you avoided answering..?? What about all the topics and opinions you brought up that you avoided after I counter argued them..??
Now with the perfect 1-1 statement that you kindly brought up yet again, I don’t want a perfect 1-1 carbon copy, that would be pointless… what i want and I have stated this time and time again, is all the elements that made the animated movie so much better then Michael Bay’s piece of crap ‘adaptation’, meaning all the emotion, the sadness (when Jazz went to the cybertronian junkyard in the sky), what about the whole protecting the humans code that the autobots live by..?? I didn’t see that in the movie, all I saw was explosions all round the humans in the city battle, i did not once see OP or the other autobots get humans out of harms way… the whole movie was about protecting Sam, but what about the rest of the human race..??
I wanted the vehicles to remain the same, like Jazz being Jazz with the pop culture attitude and OP being OP, because lets face it a truck is a truck, so why change it..?? With exception of ironhide and ratchet, if they couldn’t get nissan venettas, then at least get something that closely resembles a mini van or even a state of the art mini bus… something that say’s yep that’s ironhide, or yep that’s definitely ratchet… is that so fucking hard..?? Instead of this SUV pick-up bullshit or ratchet being an emergency vehicle with the wrong colour scheme.. That is the reason why Bays version has nothing on the animated movie..
As a parting note Vengeful NERD, it looks as though I have gotten under you skin, because your latest post shows anger and frustration in words you chose and how you structured your sentences.. And for what it’s worth Happy new year..
Alright, after about a month of going over roughly 20-plus pages of posts from you, w00kie, I’ve come to the conclusion that you have an incredibly short-term memory. The last post you wrote claims that you’ve “shot me down with counter-points” and that you’re “ahead of me by a country mile” (after I gave myself a score of 3-0). Well, after reading every single post on this page, I honestly have found a couple of things that I feel need addressing. All of them were written by you, but not all of them were addressed to me. Here goes:
1. “The movie didn’t follow a single one of its plotlines through”; “what about the marks on the glasses?”
a. I don’t see what is wrong. Megatron’s own system imprinted the location of the cube on the glasses. Many decades later, humans stumbled upon the cube by accident. However, the Autobots needed the glasses to locate the cube. It certainly looks like it was concluded to me, which I said in one of my posts.
2. You referred multiple times to this “bullshit love/side-story” involving the humans (Sam).
a. Even in the cartoon, the Witwicky’s were a focal point for the viewers because – and this might be a shock to you – they represented the dominant and only intelligent beings on the planet. Chances are they would’ve had to have contact with them at some point, and in this case, it was rather coincidental that Sam’s grandfather found Megatron. The audience needs to be able to relate to the characters in the story; that’s what stories are for. Again, I stated this in a previous post.
3. You seem to think I never thought the boxy designs wouldn’t work; in fact, I never said that. You referenced a Citroen car commercial where the boxy designs (in your opinion) worked perfectly fine.
a. I checked those commercials out, and to my surprise, they looked exactly the way the Transformers did in the new movie; almost to the letter. The only difference is that the movie allowed the audience to see the parts actually move when the robots walked and moved around. I’m not sure where the problem here is, again, because you claimed that you ended up liking the skeletal designs regardless. If you liked them so much, why cry about them being different?
4. When I brought up the fact that the TF technology was only superior in the sense that it was more advanced, you tried to show that superior technology could not possibly be beaten by human weapons.
a. Not to rehash that point, but again, superior doesn’t mean indestructible or infallible. It just infers the level of advancement inherent in its components and how it works. But for kicks, think about this: in several G1 episodes, the Witwicky’s and other humans (Chip, Dr. Robot-helmet-guy) actually used HUMAN INVENTIONS to defeat Transformers. You can’t have it both ways, and I wrote that as well.
5. You insisted that Optimus Prime’s trailer, and it’s impractical nature in the cartoon, would not be a big deal if it were included in the film.
a. How could it not be a big deal? Unless the trailer was itself a robot with a consciousness, it would have to stay where OP left it. Not once did OP go back to where he was after being chased or after a battle. You can’t expect a 5-year-old not to notice that, much less adults. Also, I too have checked the G1 cartoon, and not once – NOT ONCE – did the trailer transform into the battle station like his toys did. Neither one of your explanations make any sense on any level. This was (surprise) in one of my posts
b. Then, you inexplicably tried to compare OP’s trailer to the ‘necessity’ of having a convertible actually drop its top. As I said then, a truck’s trailer is not connected to the truck itself, it’s an attachment. It’s still a rig, it’s just not hauling anything. A convertible without a removable top (get ready) IS NOT A CONVERTIBLE AT ALL, it’s a coupe.
6. You raged on and on about how incessantly evil it was for Bay to use different vehicles/color schemes for the Transformers.
a. You demanded that Bay use a new-age VW bug. I said that bugs would be seen as lame/weak/make BB look like a huge PUSSY, and you’re response was “just have them pimped up by WEST COAST CUSTOMS.” So, not only do you want BB to look like a pussy, you want him to be tacky as well. I added the ‘tacky’ part, but this was from one of my posts.
b. You wanted Ratchet to be either a new age ambulance or a H2 ambulance. I explained that I order for Ratchet to adopt the form of an ambulance, he would have to have crashed near a hospital, which means he was probably going to be spotted; thus, failing to remain ‘in disguise.’ I wrote that too, but I’ll add this: an H2 emergency vehicle is NO DIFFERENT than an H2 ambulance; I don’t believe H2 ambulances even exist.
c. For whatever insane reason, you’d rather see Ironhide as a minivan (dear God, why?) than as a utility truck. I mentioned on several occasions how lame and flat out stupid it was to have him as a van, even in G1, so what on earth has changed? Ironhide is supposed to be the muscle of the Autobots; I don’t see the connection between minivan and muscle.
d. You agreed that red is a very difficult color to photograph, but then wonder why another color red wasn’t used? If red is difficult to photograph, it doesn’t matter if it’s a different shade – IT’S STILL RED. If it were maroon, candy apple or crimson, it makes no difference. Hence, the reasoning that the blue was used to help make it appear better on camera, with red accents (flames) to help alleviate turning OP essentially into Ultra Magnus. I won’t take credit for this one, but since you brought it up, I might as well point it out.
e. You yourself couldn’t answer what benefits there were in choosing either an F-22 over a Mig-29, or vice versa. If you couldn’t choose either, what difference does it make which one was actually used? But then again, you’re unhappy with either, since they weren’t a red, blue and gray F-15, ala Top Gun but more homosexual.
7. You used so many bad examples to try to make analogies, I’m not sure I can list and explain all of them…but I’ll try:
a. Superman: I’m not sure how you can change anything in Supes’s mythology without actually changing Superman, literally, into something else, i.e., not Superman. This one you actually posed to another poster, but it stood out as another example of complete insanity.
b. A-Team (the van): if the A-Team drove around in a stoudebaker, we’d be talking about how rad it would be to get a stoudebaker and paint it exactly like the A-Team did; but if you didn’t, it would just be another ugly SUV. I wrote that in a post, but not using the same example. I think Rewind tried to explain how that didn’t make sense, but even his explanation fell short of anything remotely resembling human thought.
c. LOTR (twice): you brought this up twice, and it warrants mentioning that both times you ignored how the basic premise of LOTR is not comparable to a story set on our own planet, as opposed to Middle Earth. Rewind actually agreed with me on this one, but you brought it up again, for what reason, I still don’t understand.
d. War of the Worlds: here was your quintessential “bullshit side-story” analogy, and that one too was a loser. Spielberg, the genius that he is, realized that the scariest possible scenario for a family (since it was a family movie) would be its struggle to survive together against alien invasion. Naturally, a family typically consists of a mother and/or father, and whatever children might exist. That’s how the audience can relate to the story, and it makes it more entertaining for people to try to wrap their minds around what they would do in that type of situation. I wrote about this one after you tried to relate this to Sam’s role in the movie.
e. King Kong: dear God, I don’t see how my head didn’t explode the first time I read this. You invented some tale about Kong having sex with the blonde woman, and then he dive off of a diving board that for whatever reason was built on top of the Empire State Building, and somehow that explains what Bay has done to TF. I feel that the reason you went down this road was your claim, that I said that the premise of Kong was “a prehistoric ape living in the middle of nowhere,” and that “no matter what happens in between, as long as he dies in the end, everything will be fine.” That couldn’t be farther from not only truth, but REALITY. I said that the premise of Kong was the shock it would be when the old-world meets the new-world, and how the two can never co-exist. Moreover, whatever changes Bay made to TF didn’t change the premise of the story, which is quite simple: alien robots who can disguise themselves as vehicles. Nothing Bay has done, I explained, has changed the premise of the story. The colors, the model vehicles; none of it is essential for it to be TF, as long as the premise is the same.
f. The Departed: I really have no idea what the point of this example was. The Departed was a great movie, and I’m told the original was as well. What the hell is wrong with that? it looks like it makes my argument look stronger, not weaker.
g. Superman-Doomsday: this was a well-done movie, but I wasn’t greatly impressed, for a couple of reasons. For one, Doomsday is one of the worst Superman villains ever. I’m sorry, but a genetically engineered beast that cannot be defeated the same way twice? How many times have we seen that? Second, the move was almost two hours long, and Doomsday was only in it for a half-hour. If anything, you should have been pissed off that this wasn’t a carbon copy of the original story, since you love your 1:1 translations so much.
h. Shawshank Redemption/Green Mile: not sure how this helps you. Books based on very real and very realistic people, places and events – in short stories, no less – don’t have the same effect as alien robots do on the fictional spectrum. The only differences a director can really make is by leaving stuff out, not changing them. I’ll admit, I didn’t address this example directly, mainly because I didn’t take it seriously, so there’s your “one argument” that I missed.
8. You also have a habit of saying one things that are either inconsistent or down-right incoherent. Here are a few examples:
a. “If I were a director and used my imagination, I would’ve given the TF’s their ORIGINAL FORMS.” How is it “imaginative” to use the exact same designs that someone else did? Following that, you said “Bay’s designs aren’t even innovative.” No one else had done it before, so logically, that meets the very definition of innovative (but sense facts don’t seem to matter to you, I’ll move on).
b. “If a director doesn’t intend to make a 100% carbon copy of the original, why make it at all?” Yes, indeed, why use what you’ve worked your whole life to cultivate, your creative genius as a filmmaker, to try new things and dare to rattle a few cages, huh? But wait, then you followed with this tasty lick, “I don’t want a 1:1 copy, that’d be pointless.” So which is it? You don’t get to criticize someone for not wanting to make a complete copy of something, but claim that’s not what you want.
c. “OP’s characteristics don’t even match the cartoon.” Hmmm…other than the slightly different color scheme and model, his voice is the same, his leadership qualities appear intact, his compassion for humans was there, he was willing to sacrifice himself to save the earth….alright you got me, there isn’t anything different about OP’s CHARACTER, other than his appearance. He’s still the same noble OP, not a Go-Bot.
d. “Quit using MY points to argue MY points.” You seriously need to take a class in critical thinking; THAT’S HOW TO REFUTE AN ARGUMENT. You don’t get points for letting someone get away with saying something completely false; you turn it around and smack him around with it! Then, you make YOUR points.
9. Finally, we come to some of the ways you tried to demean me, such as accusing me of having someone else type in response for me (I don’t even care if you believe that, since I can’t really do anything to change your mind via typing), to calling me names like “newb,” and “pretender,” and eventually anointing yourself the Grand Vizier of Transformer Fans. Honestly, it felt good to get this all out. Shawn, I hope this doesn’t crash the page!
Holy crap that was awesome. Epic WIN. Even if it crashed the page it would be worth it.
If perhaps you wanted to use your powers for good and write for the site I would love to have you! I haven’t been able to update it as much as it deserves lately. The pay sucks (ZERO) but you could have w00kie commenting on all of your posts. Let me know if you’re interested!
The traffic is decent (several hundred thousand hits a month), so you’d definitely get read.
Wow Shawn, I appreaciate the offer, I really do. Unfortunately, my “talent” is wasted in law school right now, so I spend about 90% of my time reading and working – that’s actually why it took me so long to reply. Trust me, there’s nothing that sounds like more fun than to be able to talk TF all day, but sadly, I’m a little preoccupied. For what it’s worth, I think you do a great job maintaining the site and keeping things civil as well as entertaining.
WOW… that’s one hell of a list you got there Vengeful NERD, and you complied it all by yourself, and that’s meant to prove what exactly..?? That your good with the old cut & paste.. Ahhh, Vengeful NERD you disappoint me, your really nothing more then a keyboard mutant, a serial blogger who visits forums like this one trying to make out that you know more then everyone else.. Replying to posts regardless of how inaccurate and flawed your replies are.. You can spin shit to people who have no clue about the transformers, but don’t spin shit to me because it’s getting boring and rather tedious.. And from all that pointless effort of compiling such an award winning list, you somehow left out the points that you avoided to answer (once again scroll up the page) Here you trying to impress ‘certain’ people on this forum, but you left out all the important bits… I don’t even want to point out the irony here..
Unfortunately, my “talent” is wasted in law school…. So that’s how you know how to talk shit so well and twist words around, oh, and vengeful NERD, me commenting on your posts… nah, that’ll be way too easy, at least I wouldn’t be avoiding anything unlike someone on this forum.. I can’t wait for TF2 to come out, because I want to see what dribble you’ll be posting on this forum..
Word has it that Ravage is a dinosaur..?? WTF..?? A dinosaur, last time I checked he was a robotic jaguar.. Does Michael bay actually posses a brain cell..?? T
