TRANSFORMERS: Season two, Volume 1 (DVD Review)
Well, it’s here! Transformers: Season Two Volume One is a fun trip down memory lane. The four disc set has the first 28 episodes of Season Two in gloriously remastered quality. I read somewhere that there were small sections of episodes that were left out on previously released versions. This release has those sections restored and inserted to ensure the same episodes that we saw as kids are on this DVD.
I love Season Two! There’s some fun stories that I forgot about. The Dinobots’ make many appearances and who doesn’t love a heaping helping of Grimlock’s confuzzled yet somehow lucid ramblings?
Likes:
The menus animations / transformations are pretty cool but the set is a no frill, no nonsense, no extras kind of deal. It lets you jump right into the content and doesn’t make you search for it. One feature that I really enjoyed was the ‘play multi-part episodes seamlessly’ option. It does as the name implies and saves you from watching the animated introduction the full 28 times.
Disappointments:
When Season One released it came with a large Autobot refrigerator magnet, I really hoped that season two would package a Decepticon magnet. Nope, no luck.
Conclusion:
If you love G1, and I know you do, this is a good buy. The quality is *SO* much better than others I have seen. I checked a couple of episodes on YouTube just to compare side by side and it’s a big difference. It retails for $29.99 but I just looked it up and you can get it for ~$17 at Wal-Mart. It is WELL worth the price and I highly recommend you grab it next time you’re out!
