OLD TF FAN on This site
To all Guest,Regulars and those in-between (Wookie)
Apologies if this may sound a little self promoting but just to
to let you know that the powers that be made it so and
I will be contributing to some articles/blogs in this site.
After all, someone has to speak for the “older” fanbase who would like to share the “Essence” of what made the old animated series go beyond a mere cartoon.
(Cliff Blezinski said it best, “..It is in our blood..”)
It wasn’t all about the toys,(oh the toys!!!..)
The series took itself “seriously” but felt “modified” for “kiddies”.
Today many who grew up with TF Gen-1 look back and remember it in a different light.Better animated like “the TF movie”,perhaps in a more “mature” light.
Others wished it could be done for “real”.
(I was the one of those who wanted it “REAL”)
It was never just about good versus evil.Scratch the surface and you see potential reserved for something that smacks rich of depth beyond that of just an action sci-fi movie.
A potential “trilogy” with a “moralistic message” that strikes a chord where you can feel for each transformer on both sides almost as a living being despite their alien origin.
The similarities between us and them disturbingly alike to show that our problems are “universal”. Transformers in dark light but with a few upbeat characters to break the depression.
Almost anti-war like,”The Big Red One” or “Stalingrad” but on a scale as bigger than “The Longest Day” ;with a touch of “Starwars ,A New Hope”.
(as some expected from Bay’s creation)
Like all who voted “Peter Cullen” in The Don Murphy site
I expected a Timeless Classic void of the constraints of having to be “modern” in order to appeal.
(although IDW changed a few things in their comics. The characters are still indeniably as they are but in more depth.
therein lies respect for the subject in their work)
For me the live action movie left much to be desired in
character ,plot, depth, development and plot/character believability. No sense of being lost in the adventure.
(how many would have loved to see cybertron. perhaps witness some customs/practices)
One would expect the subject become more
developed and not just “This years FX fest” and
Military “homage” for the masses.
Perhaps once the dust has settled and those in question
have had their “FILL”, maybe someone would take up the mantle
and do this “subject” with the due care ,respect, authenticity and love that would make Cecil B. DeMille or Peter Jackson proud.
The Transformers’ full potential is still unreached.
Maybe not that original a concept but it had more depth in character than most of its predecessors
(did someone in the back scream “Challenge of the Gobots” or “Mighty Machine Men”?),
Till then like many fans I will stand vigil or until die hard fan with deep pockets persuades a director who is worthy to do it justice.
–Sincerly REWIND

Welcome!
I think you know that I am someone who thought the movie could be amazing and while I think it fell short, I still enjoyed it thoroughly for what it was!
As a movie by itself, It was a nice ride but that is the point.
A nice ride and that was it.
Every Old Tf fan would have expected it, but squeezing as much around 2 hours? I think not.
Perhaps the next movie would have more “meat” that plot and character fans for the series would finally get their fill..
(The poses the autobots give especially after optimus’ tranformations look really strange. sort of a “too over exgaggerated” pose compared to the cartoon.. )
Be fun to see the political ramifications between the Autobots and the
world’s governments. Plenty potential there…especially to show how
bad we humans can get.(this is teh angle bay could have worked at when it comes to humans…)
I assume Peter Cullen’s voice would do very well
an ambassador to cybetron’s populace.
(IF only their script writer returned Optimus’ proper command of speech and wording..as the cartoons had.)
“my bad” was funny..but in a way out of character
one can expect optimus’ speech to use something like this;
“For thousands of years our world has been torn apart by division.
War upon war has driven both sides to near extinction.
Do not make the same mistakes we have.
Your world is but a part of many and regardless of
Our origin we share the same cause.
They number in their thousands.
We are all in this fight.”-Optimus
One can only hope his character would be a strong role model as his First incarnation. Something I think the younger generation would benefit from.
We all felt for Optimus when he died in the animated movie,we felt for him and we welcomed his return almost as much as an old friend
(the strongest reason we watched TF 2010.)
That was something that they could have done to Jazz in bay’s movie
before Megatron killed him.
Did not see the do or die determination autobots are known for even in prime’s fight with megatron.
I agree with what you said rewind, as i am on the same page as you on this one.. I too wanted it ‘REAL’ judging by some of (well, all of) my posts it’s pretty obvious what i thought of the movie.. Now, you touched on the autobots lack of fight and determination throughout the movie, well, that was pretty obvious.. They seemed out of touch with the whole aubot mentality, they seemed so predictable that the decepticons knew their every move even before the autobots themselves knew what to do next…
Hence the loss of jazz, who everyone knows from the cartoon that he had a never say die attitude and mentality to fight till the death if need be.. Same with Prime, what the hell was that (the fight with megatron)..?? Since when does Prime go down that easy in a fight..?? Sure, megatron is a badass and a reputation to boot, but Prime is no bitch when it comes to a fight either… the sad thing about prime in the movie and some of the cartoon series’, he held back his anger to a degree which is unfortunate..
Thank you for taking the time
Thank you for spreading the word..
hope some directory gets his act together as a result.
It is a really rocking movie but unfortunately I have seen only part of it.
See the rest of it..
coincidentally shawn cannot seem to respond to “slick” in another post.
can you please find out whatis going on?
For all you fans that are reading this, in my opinion i think the next transformers movie needs to be 3 times better than the first. Don’t get my wrong i am a HUGE fan to but in order to keep the good reputation of the movie it needs to be better. Starscream needs to become the leader for a short time, megatron needs to be revived and Arcee does not need to be in the movie. A girl does not to be in there because it will be a bit odd like if bumblebee could not defeat starscream and Arcee can, that would be corny . But besides that i think there also needs to be more transfomers introduced on both sides and then that would be an awsome movie, Who’s with me?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Agreed.Even in I do not agree even 75% of the movie, it would be a great change to have some MEAT in the plot department.(but not as technical speak as what a Startrek fan would expect.)
Starscream DOES need to show that he DOES want the throne.. and what a show it would be if he backstabs Megatron in the process.(deception mostly baby..NOT just “WHAM,BAM” effects)
As with Arcee, I am divided. Her TOY bio (for the movie)reeks of MIRAGE
(the hunterpart..not to metion “TURBOFOXES”). IF you destroy a character’s bio, you may be asking for more violent fan types for things worst than death threats.. Well that is a logical reason as to why it is a no no for me and other fans.
Secondly, at the risk of sounding “sexist” I thought the reason behind ARCEE in the comics was because of compliants made by some “Feminists”
(if you can remember that far back)Arcee was one small step for Feminism in the TF world but in HEADMASTERS .. she was nothing more than a secretary.(did I say they set back feminism 20 years at least???)
As with arcee being in The movie personaly with a shot bio, what else is left to say to validate her being in the movie???Okay some female fans may object on the grounds that there needs to be a “female” representation. But isn’t there already?? You got Megan Fox’s character, that is a potential (if bay gives her more believable bad girl depth other than her shallow self) how about that Australian Cryptographer?(Okay her speech on Biomechanics is as believable as
the existence of a Russian born US president)
There are many entry points for a “STRONG” Female. but as Arcee or
any female autobot.. with a crap bio… what else is there???
If I can see A DAMN GOOD/ORIGINAL/INTERESTING/BELIEVABLE/DEEP bio of
a Female autobot that stays true to her nature from start
to finish that we as humans can relate to I may buy it..
(Even if I can come up with one better than what Bay could)
There needs to be more interaction between characters on
deeper level much like Hotrod talks to Daniel(in the animated tf movie)
Or when Optimus gives those DEEP speeches that really hit the hero nerve. These are what lacked in the first movie..
As with what Austin mentioned. The Decepticons better put up a REAL fight without an Autobot mauling one without seeing that this AUTOBOT TRIED HARD TO and the Decepticon is no push over.
I mean How many people were upset that ONE sabre round in the right place KILLED a DECEPTICON. what sort of fight is that??
if you can be defeated by a human, then AUTOBOTS have no reason to be on earth, much less side with humans.IT is no longer Transformers
much the same way the US version of GODZILLA was killed by our MILITARY
HOLLYWOOD did not get the message (in GODZILLA’s CASE He is the result of our F###up doing atomic testing..and we pay for it)
As with Prime getting thumped by Megs as easy as a Juggernaut beats up
a skinny kid, that is NOT what I meant either.
(I thought like the cartoon symbolically the two leaders were meant to represent GOOD and EVIL Facing off on EVEN terms.)
That scene with Bumblebee chewing up a Decepticon
showed SKILL but not DETERMINATION. Wasn’t the old cartoon Bumblebee full of that to compensate for his weak strenght and size? Determination
and GUTS. Isn’t that what the Autobots had in the cartoon series that carried them through???
and YES in the old cartoon in was Conflict not just a 5-5 skirmish
so there really should be much more transformers on each side
the only difference is that teh AUTOBOTS care for us..the DECEPTICONS do not..
GOOD against EVIL and we pick a side or perish, simple as that..
No B.S. SABRE ROUNDS, no “OUR ARMY KICKS BUTT” No “we studied MBE-1″ crap none of that..
a TRANSFORMERS MOVIE..NOT “HUMANS VERSUS DECEPTICONS”
Past fans get it, why didn;t Hollywood??
There are many entry points for a “STRONG” Female. but as Arcee or
any female autobot.
