Good article about product placement over at blogcritics.org.  It talks about brand resuscitation via the Transformers blockbuster coming next summer.

It’ll also star four new-model General Motors automobiles. A character called Bumblebee, for example, will morph from a Chevrolet Camaro. Three other characters will morph respectively from the Pontiac Solstice, the Hummer H2, and the GMC TopKick.

Now, I don't have a problem with this one.  Transformers will appear as vehicles.  This seems much less intrusive than a lot of the other product placement advertising I see on a daily basis.  Now, if they zoom in on the GM logo during a car chase, then maybe that will suck.  Until then, I say, so what.  It should result in some cool GM commercials as we get closer.

Don’t Forget Nokia,Mountain Dew,etc.

Has anyone seen the citroen add where their car trasnforms into a robot and skates on ice the transforms back.

Yeah, I posted that Citroen ad somewhere on this site. It’s a decent commercial.

The product placement in the movie was a bit overwhelming for sure.

On the topic of that Citreon ad, how come Michael Bay couldn’t do it that way.. That ad worked so well in so many ways, the movement was awesome, there was little to no limitations and the transformation sequence was brilliant.. It’s sad that Bay had to do a complete overhaul in order to accomplish the same thing that a Citreon ad made look so simple.. With the product placements, GM stole the show by a country mile.. Nokia had it’s moments and Mountain Dew has it’s 15 seconds of fame, but that 15 seconds will make them millions.. Well done Michael Bay..

But i think that the political statement in the movie was the clear winner, who would have thought that yet another movie will have an Iraq influenced war as the platform for the rest of the movie..

If there is one thing that pissed me off in the movie, it was the product placement.

The citroen ad is badass for sure.

I expected the citroen advert to be of window on “what is to come” of the movie. The design and the movement had all the good points of what atrasnforming robot would look like. It does not appear to morph and SOME parts logically you know where it goes when it trasnforms.

I gather you watched both commercials yes? I distictly remember seeing two versions.

As with product placement, micheal bay could have done it more
“discreetly”. It sure ruined my viewing pleasure.

shawn can you link the GM transformers pics post you placed in this post?
I feel the relevance have can be expanded upon rather well.

there is a design there that ironically supports the notion of boxy does work. The design works quite well..

yes and maybe a comparison with pics of both citroen adds
let the robotic design discussions begin.(maybe in another post)

clearly designs discussed onthe subjects using pics of the live movie and aother robot advertismenst would be worthy of discussion if stuff was taken a different way from the live movie.
(so where is the link to the citroen advertisment…both of them, one skating and one dancing.)

I've loved Transformers since I was a kid although I lost that love as I got older. When I heard about the live action movie it brought it all back. I love the animated shows, the toys and can't wait for the movie. Everything I've seen of the movie so far gets me tremendously excited.
