The First Movie Was Cool… What’s Next?
Well… we’ve all seen the first movie, and rumors are that two more sequels are in the pipeline. Which begs the question…What’s next?
As you all can recall, the allspark is finished (except for that tiny shard which Prime kept) so that pretty much sealed the fate for planet Cybertron being that was the only powersource capable of resurrecting it’s exhausted energy. Will the Decepticons search for a new source of power? Or will they now try to dominate Earth and try transform our planet into the new Cybertron?
Fans of the “Cybertron” series will well know about the cyber planet keys… will these be introduced? Would that include “Vector Prime”? And would that mean that Cybertron itself would transform into Primus? Would that be a reason for the Decepticons to keep searching for energy and the control of Primus?…
And what about Unicron?
The CG artists (’coz that’s just what they are- artists) have proven thier skills and Unicron (or Primus) would be the next evolutionary step for them (or maybe they’d be saving him/them for the big finale).
And what new (or old) characters could they be planning?
Frenzy was no SoundWave… And DinoBot (Beast Wars) is a firm favourite of mine. Maybe more Beast-modes? It would freak me out to see a 50 foot spider spinning web all over a bot, then transform and beat the bolts out of it.
And what other machines could be designed into a transformer…
Let’s hear what ideas you TransFormer fans have. The more ideas thrown out there would help other fans build their own ideas … and who knows… maybe Bay & the boys might read this.

I hope they at least make the viewpoint from the autobots or decepticons this time. The human element taking a back seat would be a great change
I think the next movie will be loosely based on the 1986 movie with Prime dying and Hot Rod eveolving into Rodimus Prime. That could lead to the emergence of the dinobots and then probably Devestator. As the budget is bigger for the next movie the I expect the action scenes to be massive and many!
Yeah… good point!
When the first draft of the movie script was leaked, one reviewer stated that the movie should rather be called “Sam, Mikaela, & their Transforming Friends” and I agree with the guy.
It’s the same reason why I didn’t like “Transformers:Armada”… the human element was far too prevalent. The main characters are the Autobots and the Decepticons. The humans were the friends who were just helping the TF’s by divulging their knowledge of Earth.
I too hope the other movies bring forth more of the TF’s “personalities” rather than just their “presence”.
In the article on Wikipedia located here it states that Soundwave (I think he’s a bad guy, excuse me if I’m wrong) is in store for the next movies along with the Dinobots. I just fell in love with Transformers when the new movie came out, so I’m not an expert or anything, but it states that with a bigger budget, the Transformers will have bigger roles. I still can’t wait for the DVD to come out though. I’ve seen it eight times at the movie theater already!
Your not wrong soundwave was the bad guy and also megatrons favourite.. I can’t see soundwave making his live action debut in the sequels, simply because frenzy stole soundwaves design as per Michael Bays “interpretation”.. Soundwave was the original boom box along with Blaster (animated movie from 1987), and frenzy was one of soundwaves minions who originally was a cassette that ejected from soundwave in the 80’s cartoon.. I seriously can’t see this working in the sequels, because it’ll just prove how inferior a director Michael Bay really is, that and the fact that Michael bay has never seen a transformers episode in his life… because if he does put him in the sequel, then he could have quite easily have put him in the first movie rather then making frenzy the soundwave clone..!!
As a parting note… Ivy what you have seen 8 times in the theater was not the transformers, what you wasted your money 8 times on was an “interpretation” from an inferior director that should never have been.. Watch the Generation 1 cartoons from the early 80’s and the animated movie from 1987 (i think) and see what you have been missing.. On the bigger budget debate, the bigger the budget the more bullshit it’ll have.. Michael Bay has ruined transformers from the outset, a bigger budget also means more explosions and even less of a plot, much like the first one.. I apologise for not showing the same joy and excitement as yourself Ivy, i just didn’t like what Michael Bay did to the transformers and the transformers brand name.. He’s tarnished whatevers left of a perfectly good and marketable brand name.. Michael Bay has a lot to answer for….! All the death threats that he’s had from fans who didn’t like what they saw, i wish someone does it already..
Do you think that maybe they’ll give Soundwave a new design? I think my brother mentioned that Jazz was a police car in the 1st generation, but was then chosen as a Pontiac Solstice (due to GMC buying the car rights for the movie) for the movie so they might just make Soundwave different too, although I guess he wouldn’t really be the real Soundwave anymore.
And I also guess you’re right about the movie not being the “real” Transformers. My brother was really into them when they came out, but I was four years younger and too little (I think I was about 3-4 at the time) so you’re right, I don’t have the original to compare it to. However, I felt that it was a pretty cool action movie which I’m in love with, and since I didn’t have anything to compare it to, I love the movie for just what it is to me: a movie. I’ll definitely take your offer up to watch the 1987 (yes you’re right about the date) moive and see what differences there are. I guess I’m just used to movies being changed from the older originals. I have that problem with movies that are made from books. I love the LOTR trilogy, but I still feel kinda down after I watch it that they cut and changed so much of it. I saw the first three HP movies and haven’t seen the latest two due to the fact that I love the books so much, I don’t watch to see how the movie changes or interprets things. It’s clear to me though that you have a passion for the orginal Transformers and I salute you on that.
Yeah, i think that soundwave will get a new design much like the other transformers did.. Jazz was a porsche, and one of the better autobot soldiers.. I think your brother was thinking about Prowl, he was the police car in the generation 1 cartoon..
Don’t get me wrong i did like the movie, but not as much as others did.. I mean having grown up with the transformers, i just didn’t anticipate that someone could get it so wrong.. The exo skeletons looked kinda cool though, Michael Bay should have utilised their designs better.. As for the LOTR trilogy, i loved the movies.. I’m the same as you on the issue of cutting and changing things around, but the books go into so much detail and the story/plot is so deep that if Peter Jackson were to follow all three books in their entirety each movie would end up being over 10hours long… Peter Jackson did a great job for what he had at his disposal, he picked a great cast that pulled it off very well.. Then again, not every movie made from books are all that bad, they might be shorter then the actual book, but overall some movie were done pretty well.. Good examples would be blade runner and the original war of the worlds..
I was so glad to read your comment IVY…
This is exactly what I was hoping would happen because of the movie… creating new TF fans and ultimately the rebirth of the TransFormers franchise. The newbies will now go back to G1 (and all the other series… especially Beast Wars).
Yes Ivy, I do remember a mention of SoundWave (Decepticon) being in the next movie, but as for his disguise mode I doubt he’ll be a little portable CD player. But whatever he is I hope it stays with the “sound” theme (I’ve wracked my brain and can’t think what it might be, which does worry me a little, but hoping for a pleasant surprise). I do think (or hope) Frenzy will eject from his chest and maybe have a few new guys in their too. But whatever he may be, he will have to have a great on-screen presence… afterall he had such great leadership qualities himself. He was always giving orders to his tapes. He was like a second leader yet still loyal to Megatron.
But, Ivy, don’t let the die-hard G1 fans bully you into what to watch… remember that there are MANY TF series out there (a few Japanese that were only released over there) so watch them all and decide your own favourite. G1 was only the introductory TV show. The toys came first and the show was just a vehicle (pardon the pun) to sell the toys.
And as for Mike Bay’s directorial skills… If anyone thinks they can do better then they should buy the rights and go do so.
And the death threats… c’mon guys, he is still a human being afterall. What would the Autobots think of all that?
I agree that getting angry with Mike Bay is quite silly. It takes a ton of work to pull a movie together, and how many of us would actually be able to pull it off? To me it would be like saying that you could do a better job at being President of the US. It’s a lot more complicated and harder than it looks.
My 10 month younger sister was so surprised to find out that I was hooked on Transformers. She’s the usual ‘action-packed, robot/monster fighter’ movie fanatic and I’m the ‘OMG it’s a unicorn!’ type. So when I told her I’d already seen it five times (she went with me for two of then, awesome buddy that she is) and wanted to see it once for every week it stayed at the theaters, she thought I’d gone crazy.
Just goes to show that there’s something for everyone. I’ve already bought some clothes, the PC game, and a skin for my Nintendo DS. Now it just comes down to waiting for the DVD.
“But, Ivy, don’t let the die-hard G1 fans bully you into what to watch…”
No-one was bullying anyone DarthChop, i was simply saying watch the transformers from the beginning and series’ like Cybertron, Armada, Beast Wars, Energon, and make up your mind.. And in your post you said the exact same thing, so at least we are on the same page..
As for the directorial skills of Michael Bay, well, there are directors that are better then him… There’s Jerry Bruckheimer, James Cameron, and Ridley Scott to name a few.. As for the death threats, well I’m just stating what has already been said in the papers, other fan sites and other transformers forums..
So Ivy…
Any merchandising ideas for the sequels? Anything you wanted and haven’t found yet? Or anything you’d improve on? And any favourite TF’s you hope will stay on for the sequels?
Well I sincerely hope that they don’t kill off Optimus (my fav of course) in the sequals, though it appears that it’s a major possibily if the movies follow the original plot line. I can’t help but not want him killed off. He’s just so…cool and righteous and good-guyish. Oddly enough I like Ironhide more than Bumblebee. My sis is a die-hard Bumblebee fan though, so we have to compromise when we talk about the best lines in the movie. I think that they’ll cover almost every type of item for the franchise, they’ve already done it for the first one anyway (not that I’m complaining at all
). I mean I’ve seen toys, clothing, fabric, games, household items, school supplies, you name it, they’ve got it in Transformers. The only thing I haven’t gotten yet that I really want is a poster. The one thing you’d think of first, I haven’t gotten yet. I’d love more communication with humans, though the first movie did pretty well with that. I mean come on, a 28′ robot saying “my bad” for demolishing your dad’s new backyard? Priceless.
Yeh… DEVESTATOR!!!
And the DinoBots would be cool. Even if it’s just ‘ol Grimlock.
“Me like ‘em Dinobots”.
Devestator was in the first movie.. Do you mean the “original” devestator that was made up of the constructicons or do you mean Michael Bays “made up” devestator..?? Bringing the real devestator for the sequel(s) is not a good idea, because that just goes to show that Michael Bay has no idea.. Same with soundwave, whats the point of bringing him into the war for the sequels when frenzy took his boom box shape already.. Michael Bay has no choice but to make soundwave an ipod or a 6 CD stacker..
But who i wouldn’t mind seeing in the sequels despite their demented and unoriginal looks would have to be omega supreme, metroplex, tripticon, ultra magnus, blaster, skyfire, more decepticon jets (ie: thundercracker, ramjet, dirge, skywarp and thrust) and fortris maximus.. I would also like to see perceptor and wheelie in there as well so that Michael Bay can kill them off in a violent death, at least Michael bay will do something for once.. Hound, wheeljack, sideswipe, smokescreen, prowl, trailbreaker, hoist, inferno, red alert and mirage shouldn’t be forgotten for the sequels as do the dinobots, especially Grimlock (maybe he can have wheelie for dinner perhaps, that would be a fitting end to a useless character… wouldn’t it)
I’d like to know one thing about Optimus Prime and the Generation 1 cartoon.. What was Optimus’ truck design based on..?? Was it a Kenworth COE or a freightliner COE..?? I mean where does it say, or more importantly who started this crap that Optimus was a freightliner and we all had to believe it..?? Just because fanboy sites all over the internet list Optimus as a freightliner, but where did these people get this information..?? Why can’t we say that Optimus was a kenworth COE..??
I would really love a spokesman or a representative from Hasbro or Takara to come on this forum and tell us what they based the design on..?? I’ve been to other forums, and pointed out that Optimus was a kenworth COE, but i was told that i was wrong.. But am i..??
as long as it is either a kenworth ‘83/freightliner ‘70 twin stack cab over model then it is okay
I work in atruck stop and the 2 models are almost identical cept for the finer details and prime could pass for iether one of them.
As with the argument that micheal bay put forward about a cab over being too small compared to a “peterbuilt”. heve they ever seen both kenworth or freightliner cab over’s used to haul MINING equipment???
model them to the MP-01 prime toy with a little “realism” bells and whitsles and presto…
on the subject of realism what make of tank was devastator in the live action movie? it SURE AS HELL AIN’T M-1 ABRAMS nor looks like one nor does that “truck” (refuse to give name)that prime shanked with his sword look like a real world truck. they would have easily used a mining dump truck to emulate him (the suckers are bigger and wider than normal dump trucks)
wokkie i agree with you there, WHY did Miceal bay use a Peterbuilt anyway? did the company pay him off like GM as well??
the flames and color make optimus look more like a “TOY” than if they stuck with a generick fleet truck dark red color.
as with hunam intreaction I would have liked the autobots to directly be involved in the political aspect of the humans at war with the decepticons. that clearly woudl make the movie a much more believable matter than just KABOOM,KABOOM amd more KABOOM!!!
Prime would have been the best spokes person to talk to the president or the military to plan a counter offensive agains the decepticons.
Ivy Optimus is a deep character. as a fan of old I do not want to force you to read anything g-1 but here is a tip for an appreciation of the character. IDW and the older publications have a few comics that compared to the cartoon show a much deeper level of what Optimus really is. people say He is too goody goody, that is not exactly true but there in lies the hero who is as real as they come if ever he existed as a human.Imperfect as the rest of us but trying hard to be more than and ideal.
one quality I love about the transformers are they are MORTAL and make mistakes and are not super heroes beyon reproach.
I hope the newer movies woudl at least indicate this.Aotobots trying hard to keep it to gether while the decepticons are relentless, merciless and downright cold and calculating.
this would clearly outline the difference between both sides.
as with ideas for the next sequel. I HOPE IT IS AN ALL OUT WAR!!!!!
not just a hand full of decepticons against autobots. I’d like to see humans get ONE HECK OF A POUNDING none of this super weapons of virus to kill them crap or and none of that one human killing a decepticon with great ease using a matchstick crap. There should be a greater reason why the autobots are on earth other that being refugees of a dying planet. DEFENDING it out of things like moral obligations or VENGEANCE is something that would really hold it together. Perhaps a least liked autobot sacrifices his life and in the end it actually buys eart some time and respect from fellow autobots who doubted him.(and there are a lot of autobots that fit the bill)Maybe an autobot fighting on before help arrives even if s/he is outnumbered and gets one hell of an ass whoop to protect a building full of humans. stuff like that heroic stuff NOT just fighting.
Oh I don’t know if everyone’s found out yet, but the spiffy two disc DVD of Transformers comes out this October 16th! Can’t wait to buy it, with less than a month to go.
I completely agree with your ideas regarding the Autobots Rewind! I wish we could see more of that type of interaction.
Thank you for the response Ivy.
Like I posted the reason why comics made ones of G-1 still exists is becasue there is still great potential for “what if scenarios” and other things the old cartooon should have expanded on.
Modernization is a necessity but as with some designs, IT IS NOT NEEDED.
I mean your normal freightliner cab over is still in use today. Not much has changed.I suppose a new take was taken.for what logical purpose I do not know.
The new optimus prime after all is voiced by Peter Cullen, the voice gen-1 optimus, at least that is something that both old and new fans liked.(some people found his voice “sexy”. you be the judge..)
with that voice and the light script(nothing too cheeezy)In the mold of stirring speeches like in ID4 or braveheart.
A sort of “The odds against us scenario”
Imagine if optimus delivered a speech to the world heads
on how we should pull together against the impending decepticon invasion or better yet yelling out a battle cry that all would follow.
That is some powerful momment/s if done right and sure as hell the action that follows show a lot of determination. The sort of do or die
and just at the fever pitch of battle, it turns in our favor (not because of a human) but becuase of autobot sacrife (least loved autobot)
and optimus prime driving the whole thing until the end where he delivers a heart wrenching speech on how “we lost these autobots” and the cost of the war.
Transformers should have been part WAR movie, sci-fi with pacifist
tones agains how war is. None of that overly done patriotic BS. I am sure even soldiers who went to iraq would appreciate a little “they are like us” feel to it.
Sometimes I detest the changes in comics but the other aspects of characters and interaction with humans are sometimes catered for.
as with the reasons why i commented on the new live movie compared to the old. I run into a lot of newly converted trasnfromers fans who basically rip the stuffing out of the old as “unrealistic”and I tend to get all rilled up about it.
I’ve been able to see a few of the G1 episodes and I don’t think they’re unrealistic. I like the plot flow quite a bit actually.
