To segue into Transformers, I wanted to ask a slightly hard-hitting question. I had read that Christopher Nolan did a lot of research into figuring out how to make The Dark Knight, or for that matter, any sequel better than the first film and to make it better in every way he could. Alex Kurtzman: Especially because the first movie was such a big success and then it was like let’s just make another one. For us, I think the credibility that we would’ve lost — forget with the world, but just with ourselves — to saying yes before we really had a good idea, would’ve been really disappointing. I think for us, before we locked into what the idea was for the movie, we had to say: "What are the sequels that influenced us as kids and why did they influence us?" The answer was always the same. Shia Labeouf got busted for smoking in the bathroom at the Smithsonian while filming Transformers 2. He even got a stern talking to! OMFG!

Lame.

He endured a stern lecture, topped by a warning he’d be ejected from the museum if he lit up again.

Transformers hunk Shia LaBeouf was drunk and arrested early this morning after refusing to leave a Chicago Walgreens Pharmacy. This makes me laugh fo some reason!

Emily C. gave us a heads up about an article and interviews with ILM folks. Go check it out, it’s a cool read and talks about the awesome complexity involved in the CGI. Towards the end is a funny tidbit about Furbys.

There is a massive explosion and we?re standing around and we start to look around and there is still smoke lingering and you look up on the ledges and you start to see the hundreds of Furbys that they shot off…then we are stuck with all these burning Furbys up on the sides of the buildings. It is something you don?t think about at the time but of course they have the fire truck standing by, you?ve got the street littered with Furbys, and they are dousing them down.
